Graham:received his degrees of B.S. in 1951 and M.S. in 1958 in aeronautical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the California Institute of Technology respectively. He also attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He is presently a task manager at TRW Inc. McLean Virginia responsible for landing craft air cushion (LCAC) engineering support. Since joining TRW in 1967 he has had several technical project management and system engineering responsibilities in amphibious ships transportation and energy. He was responsible for the preliminary engineering design and cost estimates for tracked air cushion vehicles (TACVs). He has been active in several professional societies including ASNE and served as vice-chairman Los Angeles Section American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. John C. Kim:received his degrees of B.S. in electrical engineering Tri-State University 1959 M.S. in electrical engineering Michigan State University 1960 and Ph.D. in electrical engineering Michigan State University. He is presently a senior staff engineer with TRW Inc. McLean Virginia where his technical experience has included communications system engineering and navigation system analysis. Since joining TRW in 1969 he has held numerous positions including section head project manager and department manager. His previous employment includes E-Systems/Melpar Division and Honeywell. Dr. Kim has been active in the IEEE Washington Chapter activities which included secretary vice-chairman and chairman of Systems Science and Cybernetics Group. Edward G.U. Band:received a B.S. degree in mechnical engineering in 1946 and a D.I.C in aeronautical engineering in 1947 at the City and Guilds College of London University. Air cushion vehicles (ACVs) have operated successfully on commercial routes for about twenty years. The routes are normally quite short; the craft are equipped with radar and radio navigation aids and maintain continuous contact with their terminals. Navigation of these craft, therefore, does not present any unusual difficulty. The introduction of air cushion vehicles into military service, however, can present a very different picture, especially when external navigation aids are not available and the craft must navigate by dead reckoning. This paper considers the problems involved when navigating a high-speed air cushion vehicle by dead reckoning in conditions of poor visibility. A method is presented to assess the ACV's navigational capability under these circumstances. A figure of merit is used to determine the sensitivity of factors which affect navigation such as the range of visibility, point-to-point distance, speed, turning radius and accuracy of onboard equipment. The method provides simplistic but adequate answers and can be used effectively to compare the-capability and cost of alternative navigation concepts.

BackgroundItem 9 of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) queries about thoughts of death and self-harm, but not suicidality. Although it is sometimes used to assess suicide risk, most positive responses are not associated with suicidality. The PHQ-8, which omits Item 9, is thus increasingly used in research. We assessed equivalency of total score correlations and the diagnostic accuracy to detect major depression of the PHQ-8 and *** conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis. We fit bivariate random-effects models to assess diagnostic ***16 742 participants (2097 major depression cases) from 54 studies were included. The correlation between PHQ-8 and PHQ-9 scores was 0.996 (95% confidence interval 0.996 to 0.996). The standard cutoff score of 10 for the PHQ-9 maximized sensitivity + specificity for the PHQ-8 among studies that used a semi-structured diagnostic interview reference standard (N = 27). At cutoff 10, the PHQ-8 was less sensitive by 0.02 (−0.06 to 0.00) and more specific by 0.01 (0.00 to 0.01) among those studies (N = 27), with similar results for studies that used other types of interviews (N = 27). For all 54 primary studies combined, across all cutoffs, the PHQ-8 was less sensitive than the PHQ-9 by 0.00 to 0.05 (0.03 at cutoff 10), and specificity was within 0.01 for all cutoffs (0.00 to 0.01).ConclusionsPHQ-8 and PHQ-9 total scores were similar. Sensitivity may be minimally reduced with the PHQ-8, but specificity is similar.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a food allergy-associated disease characterized by esophageal eosinophilia and associated inflammation. EoE has become increasingly common in industrialized countries. However, current management strategies, such as treatment with swallowed steroids and dietary restrictions, are nonspecific or negatively impact the quality of life of EoE patients. In addition, use of more specific therapies that target immunoglobulin E (IgE) and interleukin (IL)-5 have been largely unsuccessful in ameliorating EoE. Thus, there is an urgent need to identify novel, specific immunological pathways that underlie the pathogenesis of EoE that could be targeted to treat this disease. Recently, a genome-wide association study identified that EoE is associated with a gain-of-function polymorphism in the gene that encodes thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP). TSLP is an IL-7 family member cytokine that promotes allergic inflammation by eliciting T helper type 2 cytokine responses, IgE production, and the expansion of a distinct population of basophils . However, whether TSLP directly promotes allergic inflammation in the esophagus and the mechanisms by which TSLP might contribute to the pathogenesis of EoE remain unknown. Here, we describe a new murine model of experimental EoE-like disease that was used to investigate the role of TSLP in allergic inflammation of the esophagus. Murine experimental EoE-like disease developed independently of IgE but was dependent on TSLP-elicited basophils. Critically, therapeutic antibody-mediated neutralization of TSLP or depletion of basophil populations ameliorated established EoE-like disease in mice. Finally, elevated TSLP levels and exaggerated basophil responses were observed in esophageal biopsies from EoE patients, and a gain-of-function polymorphism in TSLP correlated with increased basophil responses in patients with EoE. Purpose/Objective Radiotherapy treatment planning hinges on a critical factor: the prescribed dose. Surprisingly, no consistent, standardised global approach to interpreting this prescription exists. This study aimed to examine and illustrate the variations in prescribed doses for the same treatment across North European and North American centres. Material/Methods The study analysed consecutively treated oropharynx cancer patients from six globally recognised radiotherapy departments. The criteria for inclusion encompassed curative IMRT or VMAT radiotherapy administered in 2017 or later. These centres were divided into three North American and three North European centres. Dose-volume histogram (DVH) data were extracted from the local treatment planning system for the Gross Tumour Volume (GTV), the high-dose Clinical Target Volume (CTV), and Planning Target Volume (PTV) for each patient. The DVH was sampled in 1 cGy dose bins across the 0 to 100 Gy range. All DVHs were scaled to a standard prescription of 70 Gy delivered in 35 fractions to facilitate straightforward comparisons across centres. No biological corrections were applied. For the three target volumes (GTV, CTV, PTV), we extracted and compared metrics such as D95% (Dose to 95% of the volume), D98%, D99%, V95% (Volume receiving 95% of the prescription dose), V105%, and V107%. We visually compared these metrics and conducted statistical testing using the Mann-Whitney U-test. Results Our study encompassed 1,375 patients treated across six centres, revealing a spectrum of 38 different dose prescriptions, ranging from 55 Gy in 20 to 70 Gy in 35 fractions. When normalised to 70 Gy, the median mean CTV dose exhibited a 4% difference, ranging from 70.12 Gy to 72.93 Gy across centres. Notably, the three European centres showed a high consistency, deviating by only 0.4%, while the three North American centres showed a slight variation within 2%. General Electric Company Daytona Beach Fla. he currently is responsible for the costing. planning performance scheduling and timely completion of the Department's Technical Manuals and Technical Training Programs. These Training and Manual contracts cover Ship Systems Programs. Simulation Programs. and Communications Programs for the Armed Services and commercial customers. Mr. Hall has over twenty-years experience as a Technical Writer and Instructor and for the past seventeen years has been at the General Electric Company's Daytona Beach Facility. His experience ranges from teaching Basic Electronics and Radar Circuitry as a civilian instructor for the U.S. Army to writing Manuals Proposals Reports Specifications and Brochures for General Electric's product lines. Mr. Donald G. MOSS is a graduate of Kansas State University from which he received both his B.S. degree in Business Administration and his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He is presently a Senior Systems Engineer for Control Systems in the Simulation and Control Systems Department at the General Electric Company's Daytona Beach Facility. Dynamic Simulation is defined as the hardware and software required to present to the student operator visual and audible cues and responses that are the same as those encountered when operating the Control Consoles aborad ship. This type of simulation is considered essential to the development of operator skills for critical tasks. Less critical tasks can be practiced using static simulation devices. This paper discusses the utilization of these types of training devices to train Navy crews. An overview of the Machinery Control Systems of the FFG 7 and AO 177 Class ships is discussed to provide an understanding of state‐of‐the‐art equipment development. The training programs for these two ship Classes are then reviewed to show how simulation devices are currently used by the Training Community, and this is followed by a brief discussion of the additional benefits that also are derived. © 1980 by the American Society of Naval Engineers, Inc.

The Generation Challenge programme (GCP) is a global crop research consortium directed toward crop improvement through the application of comparative biology and genetic resources characterization to plant breeding. A key consortium research activity is the development of a GCP crop bioinformatics platform to support GCP research. This platform includes the following: (i) shared, public platform-independent domain models, ontology, and data formats to enable interoperability of data and analysis flows within the platform;(ii) web service and registry technologies to identify, share, and integrate information across diverse, globally dispersed data sources, as well as to access high-performance computational (HPC) facilities for computationally intensive, high-throughput analyses of project data;(iii) platform-specific middleware reference implementations of the domain model integrating a suite of public (largely open-access/-source) databases and software tools into a workbench to facilitate biodiversity analysis, comparative analysis of crop genomic data, and plant breeding decision making.
