The Atomic Planar power for Lightweight Exploration (APPLE) is a small scale, modular, isotope-agnostic spacecraft power architecture that leverages the extensive heritage of radioisotope power generation with new high efficiency skutterudite (SKD) thermoelectrics in a robust modular system which can enable a wide range of spacecraft and rover designs. The system is isotope agnostic and uses a small core of radioisotope, either238Pu or241Am oxide mounted on skutterudite thermoelectric legs, insulated in an aerogel insulation and mounted on the vehicle chassis for thermal dissipation. The APPLE architecture opens the design space for spacecraft and mission designs through distributed multiple power units that scales across vehicle sizes, from 10’s of Watts to kilowatt systems, and its integral placement in/on the vehicle allows for efficient heat utilization. Thermal simulations showed that locating the unit on the vehicle surface maintains a temperature range between 0˚C and 30˚C for the vehicle while the hot shoe thermoelectric junction remains at 500˚C, allowing the vehicle chassis to dissipate waste heat without a dedicated radiator. This enables complete utilization of the thermal inventory for power as well as vehicle heating without extensive thermal distribution systems. Utilization of the chassis as the radiator allows for a large radiative surface without adding radiator mass while increasing the efficacy of heat-to-electricity conversion (10-11%). This design uses skutterudite (SKD) thermoelectrics operating at greater than 10% efficiency and meet the 17+ year wear out mission requirements. This work fabricated four leg, 2 junction SKD thermoelectric units and mated them with an isotope simulator for power generation and demonstrated voltage and current generation. Modern unstable conditions of the market environment dictate the need for transport logistics enterprises to predict possible risk situations in order to prevent them, as well as to develop tools that allow forming management decisions, evaluating the effectiveness of each of them and choosing the most appropriate one, taking into account specific tasks and various influencing factors. As risks, situations of failure to achieve the goals of the cargo port, as well as failure to achieve standard values by the indicators for assessing these goals are considered. Goals and indicators are indicated in the constructed balanced scorecard (BSC). A set of links between goals and indicators for their assessment with risks at various levels of management is presented in the form of a developed multi-level hybrid logical-probabilistic (LP) risk model of the cargo port, as well as in detailed scenario models of this LP model. The ontological model contains all the information about the interaction of elements that affect the onset of risky events, and allows you to select options for exiting a risky situation in accordance with various specified conditions. The simulation model allows, based on the results of requests to the ontological model and the scenarios of simulation experiments developed on their basis, to develop a management decision that allows avoiding risky situations in the longer term, taking into account all available stochastic characteristics and factors of influence.

When the rotating body gets into the ambiance flow appears the lifting force, called Magnus Effect. That lifting force may be controlled by changing the revolution speed of the body. That phenomenon uses in many engineering applications like wind turbines and marine ships. In this paper, the Magnus Effect simulation is achieved with Agros Suite, a multiplatform application for the solution of physical problems. The article presents the nature of the Magnus Effect and discusses possible applications in engineering. The research question is focused on demonstrating the Magnus Effect with Agros Suite and evaluating the computational power of the personal computer that runs the simulation. The simulation is made keeping in mind the possible application of the Agros Suite tools for Magnus-Effect-based wind generator control algorithms optimization. The simulation result analysis shows that Agros Suite is a reliable tool in accessing and simulation of such phenomena. © 2021 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

In this brief paper, a data-based method on the fault diagnosis in aero-engine transmission systems is developed. Firstly, during the operation of splines, we acquire the acceleration vibration signal. We process the signal into time-frequency images using the short-time Fourier transform. Then, the improved convolutional neural network with channel attention is trained using time-frequency images of multiple fault signals. Finally, we implement fault prediction for spline wear and misalignment faults in aero-engine transmission systems. The result shows that the fault diagnosis using the proposed method has a high level of accuracy. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In order to achieve a highly accurate estimation of solar energy resource potential,a novel hybrid ensemble-learning approach,hybridizing Advanced Squirrel-Search Optimization Algorithm(ASSOA)and support vector regression,is utilized to estimate the hourly tilted solar irradiation for selected arid regions in ***-term measured meteorological data,including mean-air temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,alongside global horizontal irradiation and extra-terrestrial horizontal irradiance,were obtained for the two cities of Tamanrasset-and-Adrar for two *** computational algorithms were considered and analyzed for the suitability of *** two new algorithms,namely Average Ensemble and Ensemble using support vector regression were developed using the hybridization *** accuracy of the developed models was analyzed in terms of five statistical error metrics,as well as theWilcoxon rank-sum and ANOVA *** the previously selected algorithms,K Neighbors Regressor and support vector regression exhibited good ***,the newly proposed ensemble algorithms exhibited even better *** proposed model showed relative root mean square errors lower than 1.448%and correlation coefficients higher than *** was further verified by benchmarking the new ensemble against several popular swarm intelligence *** is concluded that the proposed algorithms are far superior to the commonly adopted ones.

This paper introduces novel methodologies for generating Big Data using specialized technology libraries (SPS-ST) in Matlab/Simscape power systems. A dedicated Matlab script is developed for simulating three IEEE standard benchmarks. Thousands of contingencies, such as line faults, generator losses, and load switches, are simulated to generate the database. During each simulation, twelve pieces of information are recorded to facilitate the implementation of artificial intelligence-based relay algorithms and the identification of early catastrophic indicators of the power systems stability. Furthermore, this database allows to modernize and develop the new protections functions. The load-flow convergence and dynamic systems response serve as criteria for verifying the correctness of implementation. The IEEE 39, 68 and 145 test systems with solar photovoltaic power plant (WECC PV) integration can be used to generate extensive training and testing databases simultaneously. The model is available in Matlab-Central file exchange platform, facilitating power systems training, research, and development endeavors.

With effective properties, a resistive-type superconducting fault current limit (R-SFCL) has become an effective device to restrain DC-side bipolar short fault currents in multilevel modular converter multiterminal DC systems (MMC-MTDCs). However, due to the resistance-energy accumulation-dependent characteristics of the R-SFCL device, the fault durations and different fault current values will produce various output resistances at each fault stage, and the related coordinated protection and control strategy needs to be adjusted accordingly. Therefore, in the first part of this paper, we analysed the DC side short circuit current mechanism and the fault current restraint characteristics of R-SFCLs. Subsequently, to verify the above analysis, the R-SFCL-based four-terminal MMC-MTDC with DC bipolar short fault modelling and simulation are presented in the next section. Finally, based on the above analysis and research, the advanced DC bipolar fault control and protection strategies of the R-SFCL-based MMC-MTDC system are discussed to promote further study of coordinated and protection control and the application of R-SFCLs in subsequent engineering applications. © 2021 IET Conference Proceedings. The operation data of power plant has the characteristics of multivariable and big data, which is widely used in the research of data-driven modeling. Effective data extraction is an important part of data-driven modeling, and the performance of data extraction algorithm directly affects the accuracy of modeling. In this paper, an effective data extraction method based on correlation matrix and vine structure is proposed. The rank correlation coefficient is used to measure the correlation between variables and construct the correlation matrix. According to the correlation matrix, important variables are selected and grouped. Vine structure is used to establish a multi-dimensional joint distribution model for each group of variables. The data with high probability are extracted by confidence interval as effective data. Finally, the extracted results of multiple combinations are combined to form an effective data set. The SCR data are used for example verification, and the results show that the proposed method can extract effective data and improve the correlation between variables significantly. © 2021 IEEE.

Glass fiber reinforced composites are widely used in storage tanks for corrosive liquids such as hydrochloric acid. In order to solve the leakage problem of a certain factory’s storage tanks. The type and failure region were located through investigation, sampling, and mechanical testing. By considering the specific conditions, a boundary equivalent model was proposed and derived from the theory of plates and shells. It can locate and measure the cause of failure accurately, without complex numerical modelling process. By focusing on the three key parameters that can avoid failure, the tank design was optimized and the bending stress in the failure region was reduced by 43% without changing the production cost and anti-dumping ability. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. This paper presents a hybrid DC-DC converter composed of switch-mode DC-DC converters and switched-capacitor circuits. The system has continuous voltage regulation, low voltage stress across switches, low inductor current, low input and output current ripple values, and high frequency of the output capacitor voltage ripples. Operation of the converter, its efficiency and loss distribution in transistors are demonstrated in the paper.
