Non-contact particle cluster manipulation holds significant promise in the realms of advanced manufacturing, chemistry, and pharmacy. However, achieving precise and dynamic control over the spatial kinematics of particle clusters remains a significant challenge, necessitating real-time and accurately programmable robotic end-effector. To this end, we develop an innovative non-contact, precise particle cluster manipulation system with ultrasonic phased array transducer (PAT) under microscope. This system combines a physics-based deep learning algorithm for real-time calculation of phase-only holograms (POHs), supporting PAT to dynamically form acoustic fields, namely holographic acoustic end-effector (HAE). Leveraging the dynamically and accurately generated HAEs by our system, kinematics control of particle clusters including aggregation, rotation, and translation is yielded. The extensive experiments well demonstrated the effectiveness of proposed system for particle cluster manipulation.

Non-Iterative Solution for Coordinated Optimal Dispatch via Equivalent Projection-Part II: Method and Applications

This two-part paper develops a non-iterative coordinated optimal dispatch framework, i.e., free of iterative information exchange, via the innovation of the equivalent projection (EP) theory. The EP eliminates internal variables from technical and economic operation constraints of the subsystem and obtains an equivalent model with reduced scale, which is the key to the non-iterative coordinated optimization. In Part II of this paper, a novel projection algorithm with the explicit error guarantee measured by the Hausdorff distance is proposed, which characterizes the EP model by the convex hull of its vertices. This algorithm is proven to yield a conservative approximation within the prespecified error tolerance and can obtain the exact EP model if the error tolerance is set to zero, which provides flexibility to balance the computation accuracy and effort. Applications of the EP-based coordinated dispatch are demonstrated based on the multi-area coordination and transmission-distribution coordination. Case studies with a wide range of system scales verify the superiority of the proposed projection algorithm in terms of computational efficiency and scalability, and validate the effectiveness of the EP-based coordinated dispatch in comparison with the joint optimization. Naval shipboard power systems are complex and difficult to size and arrange due to their geographically distributed components. A modular power Electronic Distribution System (PEPDS) built inside a Naval Integrated power Electronic Corridor (NiPEC) has been proposed as a means of providing flexibility of power and energy delivery between sources and loads that significantly reduces electrical-thermal-structural overhead. In this study, a virtual prototyping process/that applies to PEPDS power trains is demonstrated. This approach enables the incorporation of digital twins of system building blocks, such as power Electronic Building Block (PEBBs) and Integrated PEBB (iPEBBs) that have previously been reported on. The VPP ensures Pareto optimal integration of PEBB/iPEBB into PEPDS power trains and utilizes a unique dimensional compilation approach to account for the impacts of insulation coordination, repairability and thermal management on power density. This paper demonstrates Measure of Performance (MOP) outcomes of VPP and data management that can enable model based early-stage design exploration at the total ship level.

In this paper, a comprehensive investigation of the performance evaluation and validation of a single-phase asynchronous motor pump system coupled with a photovoltaic (PV) power source is presented. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of this configuration for pumping applications. The RTLAB platform, which enables real-time simulation and emulation of dynamic systems, includes important components, such as the use of a single-phase asynchronous motor as the pump's power source, the incorporation of a PV system to supply renewable energy, and the use of RTLAB for real-time validation. Through rigorous simulation and experimentation, the motor response performance, such as speed, torque, and current response, was analyzed under varying solar irradiance and load conditions. In addition, the PV power and DC bus voltage were supervised after motor driving. This research fills the knowledge gap between the theoretical analysis and real-world applications of single-phase asynchronous motor pump systems combined with PV sources. This approach, which validates the results using RTLAB, provides a validation method to evaluate the performance and guide design choices for effective and environmentally friendly pumping solutions. To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration. © 2022 IEEE.

Accelerating the(NH_4)_(2)SO_(3) oxidation gives rise to the reclaiming of byproduct, while there are secondary environmental risks from reduction of the coexisted selenium species by sulfite. In this study, a bi-functional Co-SBA-15-SH, were synthesized through Co impregnation and sulfhydryl(-SH) decoration, which can simultaneously uptake Se and accelerate sulfite oxidation efficiently. Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics and migration mechanism of Se species were revealed through characterization and density functional calculations, with maximum adsorption capacity of 223 mg/g. The inhibition of Se~0 re-emission and poisonous effect of Se on sulfite oxidation was also investigated. Using the findings of this study, the ammonia desulfurization can be improved by enabling purification of the byproduct and lowering the toxicity of effluent by removing toxic pollutants.

In this paper, an adaptive models for the consensus and phase synchronization of coupled oscillators have been implemented. By using these models, consensus can be achieved by using different graph topologies, in which agents are converged to their average velocity within the minimum number of iterations. Moreover, the phase synchronization of coupled oscillators interacting on connected graphs is also addressed. The synchronization shows that all coupled oscillators can synchronized their position and velocity with respect to neighboring agents. In the end, the simulations of consensus and phase synchronization validate the theoretical results.

This study offers experimental testing of commercial and laboratory inverters, utilized in a laboratory prototype of an urban microgrid. Operation of grid inverters supplied by PV arrays in urban environments, encounters challenges such as partial shading and soiling. Emulation of the current-voltage characteristics of PV arrays enables repeated and reliable testing of inverter operation under irregular supply conditions. It has been shown that finding the maximum power point can be challenging under conditions of partial shading and soiling. Additionally, meeting the grid quality standards for the delivered power represents a challenge. Satisfying these requirements can be achieved through careful design of LCL filters at inverter output terminals, but further improvement can be achieved only through an adequate selection of the primary controller. To further improve the quality of grid currents, the possibility of applying innovative control algorithms has been demonstrated for laboratory inverters. Application of sliding mode controllers, besides ensuring system robustness, can prevent overshoots and fault responses from the current protection circuit by introducing a specific anti-windup structure.

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease that is predominantly diagnosed by conventional microscopy in SubSaharan Africa. However, effective diagnosis by conventional microscopy is limited by multiple technical and logistic barriers. Alternative diagnostic techniques are needed. The Schistoscope is a digital optical device that has been designed to support microscopists for the detection of schistosomiasis in endemic resource-limited settings. Aim: A user-centered design approach was used to assess the usability and user-acceptance of the Schistoscope compared to conventional microscopy in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. In this study, usability and acceptance are defined as being easy-to-use, efficient, and suitable in the daily workflow by end-users. Methods: Using a qualitative conventional context analysis approach, a mixed-methods questionnaire was used to elucidate themes related to the usability and user-acceptance of the device. Participants included trained microscopists and university students (n=17). Results: Participants answered both ranked and open questions. Overall the device's use was considered to be easy and acceptable in the routine workflow of a microscopist. The auto-scan feature was considered to have added value. Critical feedback regarding aesthetics of the device, particularly related to size, was noted by the participants. Conclusion: The usability approach used in this study elucidated valuable insights of end-users. The Schistoscope was very well perceived by both medical students and trained microscopists. Critical feedback will be used to further improve the next iterative design of the device. © 2022 IEEE.

In the modern world, with the rapid technological advancements in the field of electricity, innovative techniques are being employed to optimize electric power generation. These techniques involve a combination of conventional energy sources (coal, gas, etc.) with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) (PV, wind, etc.) to meet the electric power demands. Unfortunately, the intermittent nature of these RES has a detrimental effect on the system's power quality. To counter this issue, an efficient, intelligent, and advanced control method that employs a Model Predictive controller (MPC) in parallel with Fractional Order Proportional Integral controller (FOPI) is proposed for Load Frequency control (LFC) of the connected power system. With the help of this controller, an optimum solution for this problem is established in this study to enhance the power quality of the overall system by reducing the frequency fluctuations in the system. In the end, system responses to load changes have been analyzed and compared with those of state-of-the-art controllers like the Firefly Algorithm (FA) tuned PI, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) tuned PI, and MPC tuned PI to show the adequacy of the proposed controller.
