This paper presents an optimization framework for Formula 1 racing that integrates multi-agent interactions, aerodynamic wake effects, trajectory optimization, and energy management. By employing game-theoretic methods, we formulate the minimum lap time problem as either a Nash or a Stackelberg game. Exploiting their structural similarities, we compare symmetric and hierarchical strategies to analyze competitive racing dynamics and strategic dominance. Additionally, we introduce an algorithm to refine local Stackelberg solutions. Our findings underscore the importance of jointly optimizing physical interactions, energy management, and trajectory, highlighting their strong interdependence. We examine the impact of slipstreaming on trajectory selection in corners, straights, and high-speed sections, while also identifying optimal overtaking locations based on energy allocation strategies. By incorporating a physically accurate interaction model and accounting for the optimal responses of competing agents, our approach reveals characteristic strategic behaviors observed in real-world racing. The proposed methodology contributes towards realistic Formula 1 race strategy optimizations, with potential applications in motorsport engineering and autonomous racing. For medium and high-power renewable energy applications, parallel four-leg inverters are highly recommended to increase the power capability, power rating, and the efficiency of the system. However, a zero-sequence circulating current (ZSCC) will be generated by the difference between the zero sequence voltages (ZSVs) due to unequal output currents and filter inductors, as well as other factors such as different switching frequencies and dead times when the inverters are connected in parallel via common DC and AC buses. The ZSCC will seriously distort the output currents and degrade the control performance and the dynamic response of the overall parallel system. This paper suggests a modified carrier-based SPWM to suppress the ZSCC by eliminating the difference between ZSVs through the adjustment of modulation voltages of the modified carrier-based SPWM. The proposed ZSCC suppression method can successfully achieve the ZSCC suppression even when the parallel four-leg inverters system has unbalanced output current sharing and filter inductances. The simulation results based on the parallel four-leg inverters distinctly confirm the effectiveness of the suggested ZSCC suppression method. © 2022 IEEE.

In Russia the developments on composite transmission line supports are actively carried out and pilot line sections are put into operation. However, for mass introduction it is necessary to create a single universal platform, which could be successfully used not only in linear fittings of power transmission lines, but also in other structures. The purpose of this paper is practical determination of the possibility of using press-composite materials produced by LLC “TatneftPresscomposite” for 6(10) kV overhead line traverses. In the article the methodology of calculation of constructive solutions for replacement of typical constructions of crossbeams from press-composite materials is given, unique data on mechanical and electrical strength of constructive elements are experimentally obtained. The data obtained in the course of researches testify to the expediency of application of this methodology in the design of such structural solutions, as well as the possibility of application of ready-made elements produced by LLC “Tatneft-Presscomposite” for creation of 6(10) kV overhead power line beams.

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are capable of operating at high speeds and high loads. The large back EMF results in the excitation winding current being demagnetized more slowly, which, in turn, reduces the efficiency and output of the motor system. This study proposes a novel individually demagnetization power converter (IDPC) specifically designed for SRMs to effectively use the demagnetization energy through an independent demagnetization circuit. Compared with traditional converters, the IDPC can accept direct current (dc) and high-frequency ac inputs while achieving fast demagnetization and energy recovery. The topology and working principle of the IDPC are analyzed in detail in this article using a three-phase 12/8 SRM as the research object. In addition, the influence of the winding demagnetization voltage on the negative torque during the demagnetization phase was studied, as well as the functional implementation and logic control strategy of the IDPC. Simulation and experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed topology and high-frequency ac drive characteristics, as well as their advantages in terms of efficiency, output capacity, and dynamic performance. © 2015 IEEE.

A comparative study on modeling a fluid catalytic cracking unit using different variations of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network is presented in this paper. The study includes Stacked LSTM, Bidirectional LSTM, Convolutional neural network - LSTM (CNN-LSTM), and Encoder-Decoder LSTM. Furthermore, a decentralized neural network architecture is proposed, in which each subunit of FCC is modeled by a separate neural network and then integrated into a single network. The hyperparameters of each neural network topology are optimized to get the most accurate results. Then a comparison is carried out based on means square error and R² score of products forecasting. Results show the superiority of the proposed neural network over the other networks in terms of accuracy. However, at the expense of an increase in training time. © 2023, The Authors. In the past decade, artificial-intelligence-based (AI-based) techniques have been widely applied to design controllers over cyber-physical systems (CPSs) for complex control missions (e.g., motion planning in robotics). Nevertheless, AI-based controllers, particularly those developed based on deep neural networks, are typically very complex and are challenging to be formally verified. To cope with this issue, we propose a secure-by-construction architecture, namely Safe-Sec-visor architecture, to sandbox AI-based unverified controllers. By applying this architecture, the overall safety and security of CPSs can be ensured simultaneously, while formal verification over the AI-based controllers is not required. Here, we consider invariance and opacity properties as the desired safety and security properties, respectively. Accordingly, by leveraging a notion of (augmented) control barrier functions, we design a supervisor to check the control inputs provided by the AI-based controller and decide whether to accept them. At the same time, a safety-security advisor runs in parallel and provides fallback control inputs whenever the AI-based controller is rejected for safety and security reasons. To show the effectiveness of our approaches, we apply them to a case study on a quadrotor controlled by an AI-based controller. Here, the initial state of the quadrotor contains secret information which should not be revealed while the safety of the quadrotor should be ensured.

Federated learning provides clients with a means of collaboratively training a global model without sharing their local data, managed by a central server. However, this server cannot always be trusted, as it may act dishonestly and compromise the privacy of clients’ local data. Consequently, mechanisms for privacy preservation and aggregation verification become crucial components of a secure federated learning system. In addition, support for weighted aggregation is also essential to address the challenges posed by non-IID training data. In this article, we present the Privacy-Preserving and Verifiable Weighted Aggregation (PVWA) scheme. Our approach introduces a new privacy-preserving solution by leveraging masking and homomorphic encryption techniques to protect local and global models, respectively. The masking protocol facilitates secure weighted aggregation, whereas a verification mechanism based upon homomorphic hashing and bilinear aggregated signatures ensures the correctness of aggregated results. Experimental evaluations of the performance, compared against alternative methods on two datasets, demonstrate its effectiveness and efficiency.

During the past decade, control engineers spent more effort making an interface between the practical applications and the theoretical models. System identification includes methods going from observed data to an accurate mathematical model. A precise mathematical model of the system assists engineers in designing high-performance model-based controllers. In this study, we obtained a detailed mathematical model of a conventional two-axis gimbal system considering the coupling effects of the gimbal axes. Then, we comprehensively compared the experimental data and the simulation results. We constructed the simulation model in MATLAB Simscape Multibody environment. We performed our analysis in both the time domain and frequency domain. The results show that an accurate model can be obtained considering the nonlinear effects of the system.

Physical Passivation of Deep-Level Defect States in Polymer Dielectrics for Outstanding Dielectric Properties

The limited dielectric strength of polymer dielectrics hampers their reliable use in highly integrated electrical systems and high-energy storage film capacitors. This constraint is closely associated with the presence of deep-level defect states in polymer dielectrics. Here, we present an efficient and stable approach for the physical passivation of deep-level defect states aimed at enhancing the dielectric properties of polymer dielectrics. Employing inductively coupled plasma technology with argon as the carrier gas, the polymer undergoes substantial decreased deep-level defect states, as evidenced by nano-micro-region defect measurements. Consequently, the localized charge accumulation in the treated polymer dielectric is significantly reduced, resulting in a remarkable 62% increase in flashover voltage. The breakdown strength is also enhanced, and the treated material exhibits long-term stability. Moreover, materials featuring passivated deep-level defect states can boost discharge energy density without compromising efficiency. For instance, PTFE with passivated deep-level defect states maintains a discharge energy density of 1.18 J/cm3 and a charge-discharge efficiency of 95.06% at 200 °C and 300 MV/m. By focusing on deep-level defect states passivation, we introduce a strategy for receiving polymers with exceptional performance and stability. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The concept development of any system includes the definition of various parameters of interest and determination of the threshold (satisfactory) and goal (desired) value for each. These are classically organized into Measures of Effectiveness, Measures of Performance (MOPs), & Technical Performance Measures (TPMs). These form the basis of performance requirements, the means for evaluating design, and the measure by which systems are validated. A cross-cutting sub-set of MOPs and TPMs, Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) can define the trade space within which to optimize the emerging solution. Applying this systematic approach is substantially complicated when the system of interest aims for unprecedented capabilities from emerging technologies, which is the situation for electric ship research. This paper presents an Integration Framework that effectively maps out a process leading to defined parameter objectives, which is being developed and used in the U.S. department of Navy sponsored power Electronic power Distribution System (PEPDS) research initiative. The method then integrates the Model-Based systems engineering (MBSE) system model with genetic algorithm trade space exploration tools. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.
