This paper studied the design of a predictive current control strategy with fault tolerance and reactive power minimization applied to a multi-modular topology based on indirect 2-level matrix converters fed by a six-phase generator. The control algorithm of the proposed strategy involves coupled current signals to perform error compensation between the converter modules, aiming to address potential system faults while maintaining reactive power close to zero. The results, obtained through simulation, were evaluated considering each module’s input and output currents and the final load current, as well as reactive power minimization, incorporating the obtained values of total harmonic distortion and mean squared error. The behaviour was analyzed in steady-state and transient conditions, with the system operating nominally and under fault conditions. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and good performance of the proposed strategy with the utilized topology, achieving a satisfactory response to faults through compensation and constant reactive power minimization.

Cross-flow tidal turbines have not reached the efficiency of horizontal-axis turbines. Among various improvement approaches found in the literature, the intracycle pitch control is one of the most promising ones. It consists in actively pitching each blade as function of the azimuth angle. This paper presents the development of an experimental environment to optimize the intracycle control for cross-flow tidal turbines, the aim of the project OPTIDE, a collaboration of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, Germany, the University Grenoble-Alpes in France and the University of Applied Sciences MagdeburgStendal. The experimental system consists of a turbine flume model equipped with a controlled generator. The three bladed turbine will have independently controlled pitch actuators embedded in each blade with a force sensing system. Local high dynamic systems control the speed of the generator and the pitch position as a function of the azimuth angle. A superimposed governing system performs an experimental optimization process. Evolutionary algorithms are to be employed to solve two objectives: (1) maximizing the efficiency and (2) minimizing the structural loads. These kind of problems are usually solved with numerical simulations, which commonly comes with very high computational efforts and uncertainty. For this reason simulations are replaced by an experimental optimization technique. It is expected that this method could quickly and reliably find optimal pitch trajectories once the setup is fully installed. In the course of the project selected cases will be analysed using particle-image velocimetry (PIV) with synchronized force measurements to research the hydrodynamic mechanisms and the effects of the flow control performed by the pitching motion. Induction motors consume huge amount of energy, so their energy efficiency is an important topic. The efficiency determination methods of direct-on-line motors are mature and during the last decade efforts have been made to create a standardized way to also determine efficiency of converter-fed motors. Here the efficiency determination methods given in IEC 60034-2-3 are utilized using a modern induction motor with the rated power of 7.5 kW and compared with the sinusoidal supply results. In addition, the high frequency harmonic power is extracted from the measured active power and its behavior as a function of the frequency and torque is illustrated.

The global shift toward cleaner energy sources, driven by carbon neutrality goals and climate change urgency, faces a paradoxical rise in coal consumption despite efforts to expand alternative energies. Economic disparities drive reliance on coal, particularly in underdeveloped regions where affordability and accessibility dictate energy choices. To address this, innovative approaches such as harnessing controlled pulverized coal detonation for in situ clean power plants are proposed. These plants offer compact, efficient, and sustainable energy generation with reduced emissions and minimal environmental impact. In addition, a comparison of costs, efficiency, and environmental impact with conventional methods showcases the potential of this novel technology to transform coal-based energy into a green and viable solution.

Dynamic comprehensive assessment of regional power industry development levels is of paramount importance for understanding the development characteristics and potential of the local power industry.A tri-level evaluation index system is established,describing five aspects of the local power industry development level,specifically,the coordination degree between the power industry and economy/energy,power generation,power consumption,power supply and development potential.A combination of information entropy and the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)is used to establish a static evaluation model,and a blend of subjective opinions and objective data information is then *** aggregating the static evaluation model for each time period based on a time-ordered weighting vector calculated using time-ordered information entropy,a dynamic comprehensive evaluation model of power industry development level is *** considering provincial data from China recorded during 2007 to 2016 as the sample set,through synchronic and diachronic comparisons of the evaluation results,the differences,characteristics and potential of local power industry development in China are explored.

Ongoing coal-to-gas (CTG) largely cut down both coal consumption and associated PM2.5. However, a knowledge gap still existed in CTG impacts on the other energy and organic pollutant emissions. Coupling on-site investigation with statistical yearbooks, we provided a more realistic energy evolutions before (BCTG), during (DCTG), and after (ACTG) the CTG for Hebei Province. Together, we examined the impacts of CTG derived energy conversion on PM2.5-bound PAHs at urban (UA)/suburban rural (SRA)/remote rural (RRA) sites in winter 2022. As expected, the consumptions of coal and natural gas (NG) far decreased and increased from BCTG to ACTG, respectively. Accidentally, biomass usage rose by 60.7%, and rural CTG acted as a main driver. Specially, SRA's NG-shortage and coal-stove demolition should be the main inducements, and RRA's coal-sale ban was another trigger in the early stage of CTG. ∑18PAHs and ∑8TPAHs stand for the sum of 18 PAHs and 8 toxic PAHs, respectively. ∑18PAHs (ng/m3) presented as SRA (81.8) > RRA (46.4) > UA (19.4). Biomass burning (BB) and NG combustion (NGC) contributed most to∑18PAHs of 31.0% and 23.1% at SRA, resulting in the highest ∑18PAHs, ∑18PAHs/PM2.5, and ∑8TPAHs/PM2.5, and incremental lifetime cancer risk values. Also, NGC has become the second largest contributor at UA. Variations in both diagnostic ratios and source-depend isomers further proved the prominence of NGC related PAHs at UA vs. SRA. Notably, RRA was least affected by the CTG, coal combustion (CC, 40.4%) and BB (32.6%) still occupied the top positions. In short, CTG gave rise to an upsurge in biomass usage, and the incremental PAHs emissions from BB vs. NGC. This study underlined that the priorities should be given to rural NG guarantee and subsidy retention, and biomass prohibition for further air quality improvement. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

As fluctuating wind power is incorporated into the energy mix, grid operators encounter dire challenges. Managing grid operations requires accurate knowledge of available wind power and its variation with time. Wind power can be estimated by providing reliable and fast wind speed prediction at different hub heights. Hence, this study proposes a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) model for wind speed prediction at different heights and aboveground levels (AGL). The results of the proposed model are compared with three deep learning models to validate its repeatability. The results show a competitive performance between the proposed model and the gated recurrent unit (GRU) network. Furthermore, the study indicates that capturing wind speed at 18m height for training is sufficient for predicting wind speed at higher elevations. Further research could focus on adding exogenous variables to assess their impact on predicting wind speed at different AGL heights.

Rational design of MOF@COF composites with multi-site functional groups for enhanced elimination of U(VI) from aqueous solution

Both environment and human beings were menaced by the widespread application of radioactive uranium, high-performance and effective elimination of uranium from wastewater is of important meaning for development of environmental sustainability in the future. In this study, the water-stable MOF material and the highly crystalline COF were compounded by a mild hydrothermal strategy, which achieved efficient removal of U(VI) through the synergistic effect. The composites showed the characteristics of both COFs and MOFs, which will possess higher stability, larger surface area and faster adsorption efficiency that cannot be carried out by a single component. Batch experiments and characterizations (SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, BET, XPS, etc.) indicated that UiO-66-NH2@LZU1 had more stable and multi-layer pore structure and rich active functional groups. The Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order kinetics fitting was more suitable for the U(VI) elimination process. The greatest uranium adsorbing capacity of UiO-66-NH2@LZU1 (180.4 mg g−1) was observed to exceed the UiO-66-NH2 (108.8 mg g−1) and COF-LZU1 (65.8 mg g−1), which reached the excellent hybrid effects. Furthermore, FT-IR and XPS analyses confirmed that the most nitrogen-containing group from COF-LZU1 and oxygen-containing group of UiO-66-NH2 could be combined with U(VI). In addition, electrostatic interaction was also a mechanism during the removal process. This work displayed that UiO-66-NH2@LZU1 was a prospective hybrid material for radioactive waste remediation. The compound method and application mentioned in this work had provided a theoretical basis for designing and developing multi-functional composite adsorbents, which contributed to the development of new materials for radioactive wastewater treatment technologies. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The authors highlight the need for the development and industrial deployment of online monitoring systems for the elastic moment on the rolling mill stand spindles. An example of a 5000 plate mill was used to demonstrate that these systems are made due to the need for a reliable moment assessment in dynamic modes. This problem is relevant for the development of control systems limiting the maximum (amplitude) values of moments when the workpieces enter the stand. The shock loading causes a multifold increase of the dynamic moment over the steady rolling moment. This results in the fatigue breakdown of spindle connections., as well as mill failures and emergency stops. The authors provide information on a telemetric elastic moment monitoring system installed on a 5000 mill. The data were validated in the industrial context. To achieve this, the authors propose a procedure where experimental research is carried out in two stages. During the first stage, the electromagnetic moment of the motor is compared to the spindle moment in the quasi-steady rolling mode when the elastic properties of the spindle are not manifested. During the second stage, the elastic moments of the upper and lower roll motors are assessed during 9 passes of reverse rolling. Some conclusions are made about the proportion of roll motor loads, spindle moment amplitudes, and the relevance of aligning rolling moments through the improvement of electric drive speed control algorithms.

The curing formula is vital to the performance of epoxy resin impregnated paper (RIP) material. This work explored the effect of curing agents and accelerator contents on the thermal and electrical properties of RIP material. It was found that the RIP material cured with 1phr accelerator has the optimal glass transition temperature, electrical conductivity, dielectric loss and DC breakdown strength compared with RIP material cured by 0.5phr, 2phr, and 3phr accelerator. The RIP material cured with MEHHPA has better thermal and insulating properties compared with the RIP material cured with METHPA. The existence of the crepe paper amplifies the influence of accelerator and curing agent for the hydroxyl groups affect the curing process as well as the chain segment arrangement. This study provides the research support for the design of the curing formula for RIP insulation used in DC bushing. © 1994-2012 IEEE.
