This paper presents a methodology to generate proper state trajectories of a swarm of agents, described as a single integrator model. The main goal of the proposed methodology is to route the agents into planar polygons like areas, so that to accomplish for cooperative perimeter surveillance or target capturing tasks. In particular, the agents are driven into a polygonal strip defined by a given containment external convex polygonal region and an internal forbidden convex polygonal region around a prescribed target. The control law is designed looking at a circular strip, then a conversion from circular to polygonal areas is applied to achieve the prescribed goal. Steady-state conditions are analyzed and sufficient conditions derived in terms of the control law parameters. Simulation results put in light the main properties of the resulting kinematic state description.

Augmented reality technology is currently experiencing a significant surge. The potential of AR is immense, and while it may not be as ubiquitous as smartphones, it is rapidly gaining ground. The past decade has seen a remarkable expansion of AR applications, with many industries already leveraging its capabilities. The use of AR is not limited to a few areas but is expanding across various fields, from science to marketing to art. This adaptability across diverse fields reassures us that AR is not just a passing trend but a technology with wide-ranging applications. However, in most of these industries, AR is often only at a theoretical level in development. The use of augmented reality is increasingly important in the production process. With rapid digital transformation and the introduction of Industry 4.0, the company's leadership must find new ways to optimise its processes and increase production efficiency.

Automatic or semi-automatic recognition of selected emotions using Machine Learning (ML) algorithms requires practical, fast and accurate implementation of the steps involved in acquiring the actual signals (e.g. speech, facial expression, posture and body movements), recording them in the form of an optimal feature vector/matrix, correctly interpreting the above data and reproducing and generalising this process within the ML system. Depending on the accuracy and speed required and the degree of its ‘invasiveness’ (e.g. by attaching sensors to the user’s body), single or multi-modal interpretations of biometric signals associated with different groups of emotions are possible. This group of studies, despite their relative non-invasiveness, requires the caution prescribed by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act and RODO Act and the possibility of being replaced (if necessary) by alternatives. This article aims to analyse the opportunities and risks associated with this group of technologies, with a particular focus on directions for further development.

The use of neurostimulators in the treatment and therapy of neurodegenerative diseases is an alternative to pharmacological treatment. Unfortunately, most of these disorders are incurable, however, the use of neurostimulators can delay the onset of symptoms, the course of the disease and significantly improve the quality of life. Treatment with the use of neurostimulators also allows you to avoid side effects which usually accompany pharmacotherapy, or in order to replace it when prescribed medication is not working properly or not working at all. This paper focuses mainly on vagus nerve and deep brain stimulation. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel solution is introduced for visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) that is built up of Deep Learning components. The proposed architecture is a highly modular framework in which each component offers state of the art results in their respective fields of vision-based Deep Learning solutions. The paper shows that with the synergic integration of these individual building blocks, a functioning and efficient all-through deep neural (ATDN) vSLAM system can be created. The Embedding Distance Loss function is introduced and using it the ATDN architecture is trained. The resulting system managed to achieve 4.4% translation and 0.0176 deg/m rotational error on a subset of the KITTI dataset. The proposed architecture can be used for efficient and low-latency autonomous driving (AD) aiding database creation as well as a basis for autonomous vehicle (AV) control. © 2022, CC BY.

Deep learning-driven scheduling algorithm for a single machine problem minimizing the total tardiness

In this paper, we investigate the use of the deep learning method for solving a well-known NP-hard single machine scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing the total tardiness. We propose a deep neural network that acts as a polynomial-time estimator of the criterion value used in a single-pass scheduling algorithm based on Lawler's decomposition and symmetric decomposition proposed by Della Croce et al. Essentially, the neural network guides the algorithm by estimating the best splitting of the problem into subproblems. The paper also describes a new method for generating the training data set, which speeds up the training dataset generation and reduces the average optimality gap of solutions. The experimental results show that our machine learning-driven approach can efficiently generalize information from the training phase to significantly larger instances. Even though the instances used in the training phase have from 75 to 100 jobs, the average optimality gap on instances with up to 800 jobs is 0.26%, which is almost five times less than the gap of the state-of-the-art heuristic. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

The tracking speed issue of linear induction machines (LIMs) is addressed in this study via a nonlinear speed controller with model predictive current control (MPCC). The super twisting sliding mode controller (STSMC) controls the LIM speed instead of the traditional PI controller to provide a quick dynamic response with a smaller steady-state inaccuracy. The primary objective of the super twisting sliding mode controller (STSMC) is to regulate the q-axis primary current within the finite-set MPCC (FS-MPCC) framework. To avoid the use of an axis transformation problem and speed up the calculation process, the dynamic model of the suggested STSMC-based FSMPCC is fulfilled in the $\alpha \beta$ frame rather than the $dq$ frame. The suggested control technique is validated by simulation results based on the platform of two 3 kW arc induction motor drive systems.

In this work an application for analysis of the spectrum in magnetic resonance spectroscopy is presented. For the purpose of analysis a dedicated, custom program was developed. Furthermore, the work presents the principle of operation of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and its application, mainly in oncology. We also describe an application developed to load the file in the DICOM standard using the Graphical User Interface window, determine the parameters for the appropriate metabolites necessary for the Gaussian function, estimate the concentration of metabolites and the relations between them. Some example usage Some example usage of the application is also included in the paper.

Reduced Network Cumulative Constraint Violation for Distributed Bandit Convex Optimization under Slater’s Condition

This paper studies the distributed bandit convex optimization problem with time-varying inequality constraints, where the goal is to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. To calculate network cumulative constraint violation, existing distributed bandit online algorithms solving this problem directly use the clipped constraint function to replace its original constraint function. However, the use of the clipping operation renders Slater’s condition (i.e, there exists a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints at all iterations) ineffective to achieve reduced network cumulative constraint violation. To tackle this challenge, we propose a new distributed bandit online primal–dual algorithm. If local loss functions are convex, we show that the proposed algorithm establishes an O(T max{c,1−c})network regret bound and an O(T 1−c/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the total number of iterations and c ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds, the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−c). In addition, if local loss functions are strongly convex, for the case where strongly convex parameters are unknown, the network regret bound is reduced to O(T1−c), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is O(T1−c/2) and O(T1−c) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. For the case where strongly convex parameters are known, the network regret bound is further reduced to O)(log(T)), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(log(T)T) and O(log(T)) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is among the first to establish reduced (network) cumulative constraint violation bounds for (distributed) bandit convex optimization with time-varying constraints under Slater’s condition. controlling frequency and voltage stability is the major objective of controlling an independent mode a difficult task since every distributed power supply Distributed energy resource (DERs). A small network can include various converters, connected in parallel to each other by lines with mismatched line resistance. The micro-grid includes both local and general loads. The conventional droop controller shows poor reactive power sharing when mismatched line impedance among DER modules is unable to ensure the stability of the microgrid, also, the reactive power sharing accuracy among inverters is not made accurate. In this study, an improved control strategy using a secondary central small network unit (SCMU), to increase the precision of power-sharing, also provides the most dynamic damping of the oscillator system. To improve the accuracy of power sharing and to improve the voltage on the bus at load, this controller is combined with sliding mode control. Two inverters connected in parallel were used to perform the simulation and the control model. The results showed the effectiveness of the proposed technique on the conventional control.
