Recent advances in semiconductors industry and microelectronics have created new opportunities for integrating various technologies in energy harvesting projects. These advancements have simplified the process of capturing energy from different sources, such as thermal energy, and converting it into electrical power. Thermo-Electric Generators (TEGs) are commonly used in many applications such as wearable devices. However Thermo-Electric Generators produce very low output voltages, which is insufficient for most low-power electronic circuits to operate. Therefore, a boost converter is essential to step up the voltage output from the TEG to a usable level. In this paper, a DC-DC converter with a high performance in terms of voltage gain is implemented. The proposed quasi-Z-source (q-ZSC) DC-DC converter not only offers high voltage gain but also several significant advantages. The proposed q-ZSC is capable of both boosting and regulating the voltage output efficiently, even under variable input conditions, making it highly suitable for low-power energy harvesting systems such as Thermo-Electric Generators. The design is simulated using MATLAB Simulink software, focusing on integrated circuits, with a strong emphasis on optimizing the circuit's efficiency. This work underscores critical factors in improving energy harvesting circuits, enhancing their performance and effectiveness in low-power applications for wearable technology. © 2024 The Authors.

The electricity demand is increasing due to environmental concerns, and economic benefits, leading to a shift towards renewable energy sources. However, the intermittent nature of renewables makes forecasting difficult. Microgrids ran help integrate small-scale renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and non-renewable sources to address this challenge. Demand varies based on factors like time, location, season, climate, and resource availability. The primary aim of this research is to offer a thorough analysis of the latest advancements in isolated Alternating current (AC) microgrids, focusing on discussing Energy Management System (EMS) strategies. Specifically, the study emphasizes the integration of hybrid Renewable Energy Resources (RERs) with Energy Storage Systems (ESSs). Additionally, the paper presents potential research directions and future trends in this field. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper is devoted to the education and teaching of process control and automation. Various laboratory equipment is used to explain and better understand the theory and to gain practical experience. The authors have designed and developed a simple electrical dynamical system RCDue (dynamic model with passive RC components and Arduino Due as measurement and communication unit) that allows students to perform various laboratory experiments – e.g. static and dynamic characteristics measurements, modeling, experimental identification, control design and application of from the simplest strategies to advanced methods. Specifically, in this paper, the authors focus on experimental identification.

The quality of the digital infrastructure supporting decisions is an important factor in the preparation phase of any environmental policy action, and this quality can greatly reduce the level of transaction costs. However, the development of a solution for Coaseian bargaining raises several unsolved technical problems to be able to efficiently decrease external costs. Here, we show the recommended structure of an information and communication technology (ICT)-based software infrastructure that aims to guide relevant stakeholders to achieve environmental deals and enhance green innovations. After reviewing the existing methods, practical solutions, and economics of transaction costs, we selected the design process of a new platform. We identified the functionality modules of the ICT infrastructure with descriptions of the features. Our results demonstrated that the establishment of an ICT-based e-governance system featuring participatory modeling could efficiently reduce transaction costs based on the widely used typology of them. We found that our platform could improve the involvement of any group of stakeholders through collaboration. Furthermore, we elaborate on the assessment of risks and evaluate the potential to avoid serious risks during the implementation or operation of the system. We anticipate our paper to be an initial step in the implementation of an innovative platform for the interested parties of environmental policy actions. © The Author(s) 2024.

An accurate estimation of the state of charge (SoC) of lithium titanate (LTO) batteries is required for their effective operation and management. In this study, we propose an unscented Kalman filter (UKF) approach for estimating the SoC of LTO batteries, which are challenging to assess due to the nonlinear voltage-SoC relationship and aging impact. Our approach uses a state and measurement model based on LTO's electrochemical characteristics and employs sigma points and weights to address nonlinearities. According to the findings of our research, the UKF-based methodology has high accuracy, rapid convergence, and resilience to discharge rate, outperforming or matching the capabilities of existing state-of-the-art approaches. This work provides a novel and effective solution for LTO battery SoC estimation, useful for applications in electric vehicles, energy storage, and smart grid energy systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Collision Avoidance System (CAS) is important for drone safety. CAS consists of three steps e.g., obstacle sensing, collision prediction, and collision avoidance. Collision prediction enables drones to gain information, process information, and estimate whether the object has a risk of collision. Convolution Neural Network (CNN) is one of the methods that can be employed for collision prediction. However, CNN is a method that needs a large data in the training. Dario Pedro et al. provided a dataset called the CoLANet dataset that consists of VDOs of collision drones. Subsequently, they proposed a new algorithm called Neural Network Pipeline which has a Convolution Neural Network (CNN) part to extract the feature from a couple of images. CNN extracts images by using MobileNetV2 as a pre-trained model. They chose MobileNetV2 due to training performance from another dataset. This paper aims to assess the performance of lightweight CNN models using the CoLANet dataset. The models will be trained on the Keras library with parameters of fewer than ten million. The models will be validated by Confusion Matrix and Receiver Operating Characteristics. In conclusion, we examine which pre-trained CNN model has the best performance and suggest ongoing work. © 2023 IEEE.

Development of an Adaptive Fuzzy Extended Kalman Filter (AFEKF) and an Adaptive Fuzzy Unscented Kalman Filter (AFUKF) for the state estimation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were presented in this paper based on real flight data of a fixed wing airplane. The Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy extension helps to estimate the values of the EKF's and UKF's Rkcovariance matrix at each sampling instant when measurement update step is carried out. The ANFIS monitors the EKF's and UKF's performances attempt to eliminate the gap between theoretical and real innovation sequences' covariance. The investigations show that AFUKF can provide better performance in accuracy and less error than the AFEKF in case of real flight data for maneuvering fixed wing UAVs. © 2022 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In this paper, a novel solution is introduced for visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) that is built up of Deep Learning components. The proposed architecture is a highly modular framework in which each component offers state of the art results in their respective fields of vision-based Deep Learning solutions. The paper shows that with the synergic integration of these individual building blocks, a functioning and efficient all-through deep neural (ATDN) vSLAM system can be created. The Embedding Distance Loss function is introduced and using it the ATDN architecture is trained. The resulting system managed to achieve 4.4% translation and 0.0176 deg/m rotational error on a subset of the KITTI dataset. The proposed architecture can be used for efficient and lowlatency autonomous driving (AD) aiding database creation as well as a basis for autonomous vehicle (AV) control. © 2022 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In the paper the numerical estimation of the internal positivity of the model of a two dimensional heat transfer process is addressed. The considered thermal process is described by the fractional order state equation, derived from parabolic heat equation with homogenous Neumann boundary conditions and distributed control and observation. Two numerical algorithms of the positivity testing are proposed and compared. The first one consists in the full examination of the whole area. The next one uses Monte Carlo method. From tests it can be concluded that the considered model can be internally positive only for its lower orders and heating and measurements located closely to the corner of the tested area. The use of the Monte Carlo method allows to significantly shorten the duration of computations. The presented results can be useful in measurements using a thermal camera. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
