In large distributed control systems or in large information systems still more often the wireless communication with remote objects which are the integral part of these systems is used. The second sphere of the wireless communication utilization is represented by the mobile objects in the control or information system. In the large systems we can utilize, with advantage, the communication which will be provided by the GSM technique. Good covering by signal in case of GSM enables the building up of measuring and control systems where the communication can run also in the demanding terrain. The given application describes the distributed system oftemperatures measuring in prospect holes on mine dumps.

Distillation columns constitute a significant fraction of the capital invested in the refineries around the world; their control requires a major part of the total operating cost of chemical processes, if the used strategy is not adequate. This article presents the application of optimal fuzzy control to reduce the energy consumption of a Benzene-Toluene distillation column. This method is based on the determination of the specific values of the fuzzy controller parameters such that certain performance criterion is minimised. Results of a simulation study are presented showing the potential improvement offered by this method.

In this paper, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode concept is introduced for the control of a class of nonlinear dynamical systems. This nonsingular terminal sliding mode control not only enables the £nite time convergence of the system equilibrium, but also eliminates the singularity problem associated with conventional terminal sliding mode control. Simulations are presented to show the effectiveness of the design.

In this paper, several relations between pole placement (PP) controller and unconstrained predictive controller are investigated. The placement of poles at certain positions leads to various types of time optimal control and has a direct relation to the choice of minimum control and output horizons for stabilising MPC. On the other hand, a predictive control method for linear systems is derived that can be turned into some well known stabilising MPC methods. This MPC method is closely related to the PP design.

Coal blending control system has been analysed in the paper. The aim of the control is to stabilise simultaneously the tonnage and the quality (ash content) of the blend. Tonnage of components are monitored with the use of belt scales and ash content with the use of radiometric on-line adaptive ash monitor with the fuzzy algorithm of the signal processing. The simulation analysis of a control strategy using de-coupled controllers and the adaptive fuzzy monitoring system has been presented in the paper.

The paper interests in continuous diagnostics of the heart of the old people by the transmission of ECG signal through voice channel of mobile telephone. The ECG signal is measured during active life, it is compressed through 24 hours and stored in the memory to be possible a long term ECG diagnostics. The time compression is supported by wavelet analysis in special processor. The implementation of "Wavelet Analyser" uses custom design and FPGA circuitry. The ECG signal is compressed in amplitude, and it is equipped by redundancy of error control code before transmission by the voice channel of mobile telephone line.
