For a reciprocal relation Q on a set of alternatives A, two transitivity frameworks which generalize both T-transitivity and stochastic transitivity are discussed: the framework of cycle-transitivity, introduced by the present authors [6] and which is based upon the ordering of the numbers Q(a,b), Q(b,c) and Q(c,a) for all (a,b,c)∈A3, and the framework of FG-transitivity, introduced by Swital-ski [21] as an immediate generalization of stochastic transitivity. The rules that enable to express FG-transitivity in the form of cycle-transitivity and cycle-transitivity in the form of FG-transitivity, illustrate that for reciprocal relations the concept of cycle-transitivity provides a framework that can cover more types of transitivity than does the concept of FG-transitivity.

Currently, both Choquet fuzzy integral and Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy models are popular synthetic evaluation and fuzzy modeling tools. In this paper, we prove that Choquet fuzzy integral is a special version of Takagi–Suguno fuzzy model in the sense of structure, thus the learning algorithm of the latter is used to develop a parameter estimation procedure for the former. The parameter estimation procedure actually is performed in each ordinal subspace of input space, in which all input data have unique ordering of components. The proposed approach in this paper has been proven to possess better performance than the existing ones by not only theoretical analysis but also experiments.

In this work the normality property of specification languages for discrete-event systems under partial observation is investigated in a modular context for large-scale systems-modelling. This is related to work on controllability done previously in a similar context by R. Wenck and J. H. Richter (2004). The problem of preserving normality under master-slave (biased synchronous composition, BSC) and strict composition (strict product composition, SPC) operations is defined, and sufficient conditions for preserving normality under application of these operators are provided.

The stirring motion of shear layer vortices plays a prominent and often critical role in diverse engineering applications. Periodic zero net flow actuation is an established mechanism to effect shear layer instability and growth. Active feedback control is considered here as a means to regulate and maximize shear layer mixing: Feedback utilizes estimated vortex locations to harmonize actuation with vortex release. We propose an observer structure based on a phenomenological dynamic phasor model for the travelling waveform of sensors' readings, and illustrate its use in simulations and open and closed loop experiments with the backward facing step system, and in free shear layer simulations.
