The Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is a fast and efficient learning algorithm for single-hidden layer feedforward neural networks (SLFN). Recently, with the increase in data volume in real-world applications, and the need to process data from streaming, two problems have become recurrent in data classification: it is not possible to gather all the necessary data before training the algorithms, and it is difficult to manually label the data for the classification tasks. To address these problems, many variations of ELM have been proposed to allow semi-supervised learning, online sequential learning, or both. In this paper, we propose a variation of ELM called Semi-Supervised Online Elastic Extreme Learning Machine (SSOE-ELM), an algorithm that uses both labeled and unlabeled data to learn in an online sequential way (chunk-by-chunk). We compare our approach to the SOS-ELM in several benchmarks. Our experimental results show that SSOE-ELM outperforms SOS-ELM in accuracy, generalization ability and in training speed.

A potential neurophysiological correlate of electric-acoustic pitch matching in adult cochlear implant users: Pilot data

The overall goal of this study was to identify an objective physiological correlate of electric-acoustic pitch matching in unilaterally implanted cochlear implant (CI) participants with residual hearing in the non-implanted ear. Electrical and acoustic stimuli were presented in a continuously alternating fashion across ears. The acoustic stimulus and the electrical stimulus were either matched or mismatched in pitch. Auditory evoked potentials were obtained from nine CI users. Results indicated that N1 latency was stimulus-dependent, decreasing when the acoustic frequency of the tone presented to the non-implanted ear was increased. More importantly, there was an additional decrease in N1 latency in the pitch-matched condition. These results indicate the potential utility of N1 latency as an index of pitch matching in CI users. © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The learners' needs are an important factor in designing syllabus and materials design, this research deals with the syllabus and material design based on the professional's needs. It is expected that the syllabus and materials designes are communicatively applicable to the professional academy. Descriptive method is applied in this research. The sample of this research is 30 students of ATII Immanuel Academy Medan. They were selected by random sampling to get the data, the questioners were administered to students. the questioners consisted of 54 items and the semi structured interview consisted of 5 questions, the finding indicated that learners' needs were focused on reading and speaking skills. With reference appropriately and proportionally derived for students of the Professional Academy. Further on the basis of the syllabus, materials are designed in which the skills of using language become a priority. We generated pulses of electromagnetic radiation in the terahertz (THz) frequency range by optical excitation of Co2Fe0.4Mn0.6Si (CFMS)/normal-metal (NM) bilayer structures. The CFMS is a Heusler alloy showing a band gap in one spin channel and is therefore a half metal. We compared the THz emission efficiency in a systematic manner for four different CFMS/NM bilayers, where NM was either Pt, Ta, Cr, or Al. Our measurements show that the THz intensity is highest for a Pt capping. We also demonstrate the tunability of the THz amplitude by varying the magnetic field for all four bilayers. We attribute the THz generation to the inverse spin Hall effect. In order to investigate the role of the interface in THz generation, we measured the spin mixing conductance for each CFMS/NM bilayer using a ferromagnetic resonance method. We found that the spin-orbit coupling cannot completely describe the THz generation in the bilayers and that the spin transmission efficiency of the CFMS/NM interface and the spin diffusion length, as well as the oxidation of the NM layer, play crucial roles in the THz emission process.

Road transportation is the most popular transportation in Thailand, which the top two highest traffic are the region-to-region highways;and then inter-city highways. Therefore, the regular maintenance is required to maintain the good condition due to road safety. The most significant process of bridge inspection procedures is sub structure inspection, which requires visual inspection as an initial step. This process is used to quick determine the damage severity i.e. appearance and crack that may cause damage to the structure strength. The current process requires that the experienced maintenance engineer to be on the field in order to visual inspect and estimate whether the maintenance is required. Yet, due to the limitation of number of expert engineers to be on the field, the photo verification is introduced to assist them so that they are no need on every inspection site. However, using human to verify has no standard and uncontrollable. They need to have experience and good knowledge. As well as it is highly depended on individual decisionmaking skill. Thus, in this paper, the deep learning technique will be presented to assist the expert for quality inspection process of bridge sub structure images. That is using image enhancement and then image splitting and overlapping for image pre-processing. After that applying CNNs for object classification. As a result, the total accuracy is 89% based on 3926 dataset.

The delay-bandwidth limit implies a stringent trade-off between the time delay, bandwidth, and propagation distance of an electromagnetic signal. Here, we show that temporal modulation can overcome this constraint, enabling extremely broadband wave propagation with close-to-zero group velocity dispersion in switched multipath electronic networks. Contrary to time-invariant waveguides, in which wave propagation implies a delicate balance between electric and magnetic stored energies, in such modulated networks the stored energy is largely electrostatic in nature. We show that in this case the phase and group velocities become independent of the properties of their constituent elements, and they are controlled only by the modulation scheme. Based on these findings, we provide practical designs of deeply subwavelength CMOS-compatible reciprocal and nonreciprocal microwave components, such as delay lines, phase shifters, couplers, and circulators. The obtained results also explicitly show that temporally modulated systems are not bound by constraints of time-invariant systems and can achieve arbitrarily large delay-bandwidth products.

This paper presents a neuro-inspired mapping approach that uses partial information shared by multiple robots to reduce the time to create a map of an entire environment. Robots using a neurobiologically inspired algorithm, namely RatSLAM, map an environment sharing video information among themselves. RatSLAM, which is based on the navigation system present in the hippocampus of rodents' brain, has been widely used on simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem. This proposal has been able to generate suitable maps mainly when there is redundant information, e.g. a scene is seen more than once, since this fact activates local view cells that inject activity inside the pose cells via an excitatory link. The work here reported extends this approach by merging partial information acquired by multiple robots. The results from the performed experiments show that the final map built by two robots with shared information is similar to one built by two robots performing the same mapping task individually, i.e. without sharing information. However, the time spent to generate the whole map with the proposed shared approach was smaller than the one without the shared information. Thus, the current approach allows creating a complete map of an environment within a reduced time using multiple robots. © 2018 IEEE.

Standardising the representation of biomedical knowledge among all researchers is an insurmountable task, hindering the effectiveness of many computational methods. To facilitate harmonisation and interoperability despite this fundamental challenge, we propose to standardise the framework of knowledge graph creation instead. We implement this standardisation in BioCypher, a FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) framework to transparently build biomedical knowledge graphs while preserving provenances of the source data. Mapping the knowledge onto biomedical ontologies helps to balance the needs for harmonisation, human and machine readability, and ease of use and accessibility to nonspecialist researchers. We demonstrate the usefulness of this framework on a variety of use cases, from maintenance of task-specific knowledge stores, to interoperability between biomedical domains, to on-demand building of task-specific knowledge graphs for federated learning. The role of climate can be affected by plants. The weather can accelerate and multiply the existence of various plant pests and diseases, accelerate the growth and development of grass among plants, and encourage the emergence of infection and significant damage to plants. The elements of climate that affect the growth of plants are one of them is rainfall. In this paper, we performed the simulation using the non-parametric penalized spline (PSPLINE) method and studied the effect on rice production in Lampung. It can be concluded that the increasing fluctuation, frequency, and intensity of climate anomalies in the last decade caused by the ENSO phenomenon have an impact on changes in distribution patterns, intensity, and period of the wet season so that the start of the rainy season and the dry season becomes too late. As a result, there is a seasonal shift from normal average conditions that can ultimately have severe implications for food crops. In a nutshell penalized spline gives high accuracy with R 2 = 96.227% and MAPE = 1.62%. © 2018 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The research purpose is to create a hypermedia driven API for learning object management. The research focuses on conception, design, implementation and evaluation of the learning object management hypermedia API. The hypermedia API was designed based on learning object models, hypermedia concepts, and related studies. Learning object model can be represented and manipulated as a hypermedia resource. It contains page resources with text and links to multimedia elements. The hypermedia API was designed using UML and represented in HTML5 because of its rich affordance. The implementation and evaluation phase were conducted by testing the API using three different client’s software to prove the concept of hypermedia as the engine of application state for managing learning objects. The results show that the hypermedia API for learning object management is accessible, consistent, and discoverable by heterogonous client applications.
