Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) is a teaching method that could improve students' skills. Research investigating the feasibility of applying PAL in the Information Studies/Science (IS) field concerning the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) courses settings is scarce, and there is a demand to explore this realm. In this research, systems thinking examines the ICT courses as a system with inputs, outputs, and feedback. A holistic manner of enquiry demanded the exploitation of a case study. Seventy-four PAL attendees from four sections of female students completed a short survey at the end of their ICT-related courses. The survey aimed to gather data on the attendees' opinions regarding the PAL as a peer-learning system. The research framework admitted the data through phases;It integrated a new take on the 'old-fashioned' SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) analysis. Then it developed a PAL integration framework to structure its practical implementation in the ICT courses. Finally, the study showed the potential of using SWOT analysis in managing educational methods and evaluating ICT skills by using PAL in the IS field. © 2023 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Paradoxical roles of inhibitory autapse and excitatory synapse in formation of counterintuitive anticipated synchronization

Different from the common delayed synchronization(DS)in which response appears after stimulation,anticipated synchronization(AS)in unidirectionally coupled neurons denotes a counterintuitive phenomenon in which response of the receiver neuron appears before stimulation of the sender neuron,showing an interesting function of brain to anticipate the *** dynamical mechanism for the AS remains unclear due to complex dynamics of inhibitory and excitatory *** this article,the paradoxical roles of excitatory synapse and inhibitory autapse in the formation of AS are ***,in addition to the common roles such that inhibitory modulation delays and excitatory modulation advances spike,paradoxical roles of excitatory stimulation to delay spike via type-II phase response and of inhibitory autapse to advance spike are obtained in suitable parameter regions,extending the dynamics and functions of the excitatory and inhibitory ***,AS is related to the paradoxical roles of the excitatory and inhibitory modulations,presenting deep understandings to the *** autapse induces spike of the receiver neuron advanced to appear before that of the sender neuron at first,and then excitatory synapse plays a delay role to prevent the spike further advanced,resulting in the AS as the advance and delay effects realize a dynamic ***,inhibitory autapse with strong advance,middle advance,and weak advance and delay effects induce phase drift(spike of the receiver neuron advances continuously),AS,and DS,respectively,presenting comprehensive relationships between AS and other *** results present potential measures to modulate AS related to brain function.

Machine and deep learning techniques are now essential for many different kinds of solutions in many areas, applications, and businesses. Analyzing e-commerce reviews using machine and deep learning techniques can motivate a company to make more wise decisions regarding the quality and services it offers. But issues can occur if there is insufficient high-quality data for the training, scalability, and upkeep of learning models. To address these important issues, we suggest a data-centric learning architecture that makes use of a blockchain and Interplanetary File System (IPFS)-based storage. Our architecture provides secure and cost-effective data storage and an incentive mechanism. Our experiment shows that as the dataset gets bigger, the Naïve Bayes (NB) and the Support Vector Machine (SVM) models get 2% more accurate, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model gets 4% more accurate, and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model gets 3 % more accurate. The deep learning models exhibited higher accuracy rates than the machine learning models because hidden layers of deep learning possess the ability to extract intricate syntactic features from the review text. © 2023 IEEE.

A method for detecting surface defects of car seats based on improved YOLOv5 is proposed to address the current issues of low efficiency, high missed detection rate, and difficult cost control in manual inspection of surface defects of car seats. In addition, in order to solve the imbalance problem of various defect images collected by industrial cameras, the methods of translation, cropping and adding noise are used to pre-enhance the images. Train the manually annotated dataset using an improved Yolov5 model, which uses K-means++ clustering anchor boxes to enhance adaptability to the dataset in this paper. At the same time, add a BiFormer module to the network to reduce the loss of small target defects and enhance the network’s feature fusion and extraction capabilities. The experimental results show that the mAP of the whole is increased from 67.1% to 78.2%, and the model can meet the requirements of the identification of car seat surface defects.

Background Diarrhoeal diseases claim more than 1 million lives annually and are a leading cause of death in children younger than 5 years. Comprehensive global estimates of the diarrhoeal disease burden for specific age groups of children younger than 5 years are scarce, and the burden in children older than 5 years and in adults is also understudied. We used results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to assess the burden of, and trends in, diarrhoeal diseases overall and attributable to 13 pathogens, as well as the contributions of associated risk factors, in children and adults in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. Methods We used the Cause of Death Ensemble modelling strategy to analyse vital registration data, verbal autopsy data, mortality surveillance data, and minimally invasive tissue sampling data. We used DisMod-MR (version 2.1), a Bayesian meta-regression tool, to analyse incidence and prevalence data identified via systematic reviews, population-based surveys, and claims and inpatient data. We calculated diarrhoeal disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) as the sum of years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs) for each location, year, and age-sex group. For aetiology estimation, we used a counterfactual approach to quantify population-attributable fractions (PAFs). Additionally, we estimated the diarrhoeal disease burden attributable to the independent effects of risk factors using the comparative risk assessment framework. Findings In 2021, diarrhoeal diseases caused an estimated 1.17 million (95% uncertainty interval 0.793-1.62) deaths globally, representing a 60.3% (50.6-69.0) decrease since 1990 (2.93 million [2.31-3.73] deaths). The most pronounced decline was in children younger than 5 years, with a 79.2% (72.4-84.6) decrease in diarrhoeal deaths. Fall detection is one of the most important issues for taking good care of the elder people. Previous solutions are mainly focusing on the fall detection accuracy to avoid unnecessary false alarm with wearable devices, which provide the detection ability after the fall events. In this study, we propose ART, an accurate and real-time fall detection algorithm using COTS smart watch, which could provide accurateter that, we extract the threshold of the acceleration and angle by using the method of SVM. Evaluation results show that, ART can detect fall effectively before the impact, and the accuracy of the forward fall, backward fall and the lateral fall are 100%,95.5% and 95.7% respectively. The average processing time is 276ms, which can provide relatively sufficient time for fall prevention.

Background: Asthma and atopic dermatitis are common allergic conditions that contribute to substantial health loss, economic burden, and pain across individuals of all ages worldwide. Therefore, as a component of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021, we present updated estimates of the prevalence, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), incidence, and deaths due to asthma and atopic dermatitis and the burden attributable to modifiable risk factors, with forecasted prevalence up to 2050. Methods: Asthma and atopic dermatitis prevalence, incidence, DALYs, and mortality, with corresponding 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs), were estimated for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. A systematic review identified data from 389 sources for asthma and 316 for atopic dermatitis, which were further pooled using the Bayesian meta-regression tool. We also described the age-standardised DALY rates of asthma attributable to four modifiable risk factors: high BMI, occupational asthmagens, smoking, and nitrogen dioxide pollution. Furthermore, as a secondary analysis, prevalence was forecasted to 2050 using the Socio-demographic Index (SDI), air pollution, and smoking as predictors for asthma and atopic dermatitis. To assess trends in the burden of asthma and atopic dermatitis before (2010–19) and during (2019–21) the COVID-19 pandemic, we compared their average annual percentage changes (AAPCs). Findings: In 2021, there were an estimated 260 million (95% UI 227–298) individuals with asthma and 129 million (124–134) individuals with atopic dermatitis worldwide. Asthma cases declined from 287 million (250–331) in 1990 to 238 million (209–272) in 2005 but increased to 260 million in 2021. Atopic dermatitis cases consistently rose from 107 million (103–112) in 1990 to 129 million (124–134) in 2021. B cell response plays a critical role against SARS-CoV-2 ***,little is known about the diversity and frequency of the paired SARS-CoV-2 antigen-specific BCR repertoire after SARS-CoV-2 ***,we performed single-cell RNA sequencing and VDJ sequencing using the memory and plasma B cells isolated from five convalescent COVID-19 patients,and analyzed the spectrum and transcriptional heterogeneity of antibody immune *** linking BCR to antigen specificity through sequencing(LIBRA-seq),we identified a distinct activated memory B cell subgroup(CD11c^(high) CD95^(high))had a higher proportion of SARS-CoV-2 antigen-labeled cells compared with memory B *** results revealed the diversity of paired BCR repertoire and the non-stochastic pairing of SARS-CoV-2 antigen-specific immunoglobulin heavy and light chains after SARS-CoV-2 *** public antibody clonotypes were shared by distinct convalescent ***,several antibodies isolated by LIBRA-seq showed high binding affinity against SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain(RBD)or nucleoprotein(NP)via ELISA *** RBD-reactive antibodies C14646P3S and C2767P3S isolated by LIBRA-seq exhibited high neutralizing activities against both pseudotyped and authentic SARS-CoV-2 viruses in *** study provides fundamental insights into B cell response following SARS-CoV-2 infection at the single-cell level.
