Assessment of POC CD4 Detecting Mode in District or County Labs-Jiangsu Province, China, 2021

Objective:This study seeks to explore efficient and multiple-item detection modes in new-style hiv labs,as well as access the accuracy and reliability of CD4 cell count detected by point of care(POC)to analyze POC work feasibility in district or county ***:POC devices adopted in grassroots-level labs and flow cytometers adopted in prefecture-level labs were used to analyze the same group of blood *** individual results were collected and compared for parametric tests in correlation and ***:The Pearson correlation coefficients(r)between results detected by FACSPresto and those by FACSCalibur,FACSVia,FACSCantoII,and EPICSXL were 0.922,0.938,0.914,and 0.823,respectively;the average deviations were−25.64,24.68,3.05,and 70.97 cells/μL,respectively;the Pearson correlation coefficient(r)between results by Pima and FACSCalibur,FACSVia,FACSCantoII,and EPICSXL were 0.900,0.950,0.954,and 0.876,respectively;and the average deviations were−73.99,−40.78,−29.32,and−22.75 cells/μL,***:Strong positive correlations and good consistency were observed between the CD4 count tested by POC and flow *** findings provide theoretical support for new-style hiv labs and one-stop services,which can provide shorter testing duration and simpler testing processes,so that the most comprehensive testing results can be obtained in the shortest amount of time.

BACKGROUND Enhancing awareness and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis(PrEP)and postexposure prophylaxis(PEP)is vital to curb human immunodeficiency virus(hiv)***-risk behaviors prevalent among sexually transmitted infection clinic outpatients underscore the need for increased PrEP/PEP education in this *** To investigate the effects of both onsite and online health education on the knowledge of,and willingness to use,PrEP and PEP among individuals receiving PEP *** Participants were drawn from a cohort study on PEP service intervention at an std/aids outpatient clinic in designated hiv/aids hospitals in Beijing,conducted from January 1 to June 30,*** education was provided both onsite and online during *** assessing knowledge of,and willingness to use,PrEP/PEP were administered at baseline and again at 24 wk *** A total of 112 participants were enrolled in the study;105 completed the follow-up at week *** percentage of participants with adequate knowledge of,and willingness to use,PrEP significantly increased from 65.2%and 69.6%at baseline to 83.8%and 82.9%at the end of the intervention(both P<0.05).Similarly,those with adequate knowledge of,and willingness to use,PEP increased from 74.1%and 77.7%at baseline to 92.4%and 89.5%at week 24(P<0.05).Being between 31 years and 40 years of age,having a postgraduate degree or higher,and reporting a monthly expenditure of RMB 5000 or more were found to be significantly associated with knowledge of PrEP and PEP(both P<0.05).CONCLUSION The findings show that both onsite and online health education significantly improved the knowledge of,and increased willingness to use,PrEP and PEP in individuals utilizing PEP services.

Association between the triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and cardiovascular diseases in people living with human immunodeficiency virus:Evidence from a retrospectively cohort study 2005-2022

Introduction:The triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(TG/HDL-C)ratio,a novel biomarker for metabolic syndrome(MetS),has been validated in the general population as being significantly correlated with cardiovascular disease(CVD)***,its capabilities to predict CVD in people living with human immunodeficiency virus(hiv;PLWH)remain ***:We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 16,081 PLWH who initiated antiretroviral therapy(ART)at the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen(China)from 2005 to *** baseline TG/HDL-C ratio was calculated as TG(mmol/L)divided by HDL-C(mmol/L).We employed a multivariate Cox proportional hazards model to assess the association between the TG/HDL-C ratio and CVD occurrence,using Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests to compare survival *** increase in prediction risk upon the addition of the biomarker to the conventional risk model was examined through the assessment of changes in net reclassification improvement(NRI)and integrated discrimination improvement(IDI).Nonlinear relationships were investigated using a restricted cubic spline plot,complemented by a two-piecewise Cox proportional hazards model to analyze threshold ***:At the median follow-up of 70 months,213 PLWH developed ***-Meier curves demonstrated a significant association between the increased risk of CVD and a higher TG/HDL-C ratio(log-rank P<0.001).The multivariate-adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression model indicated that the CVD hazard ratios(HR)(95%confidence intervals[95%CIs])for Q2,Q3,and Q4 versus Q1 of the TG/HDL-C ratio were 2.07(1.24,3.45),2.17(1.32,3.57),and 2.20(1.35,3.58),respectively(P<0.05).The consideration of the TG/HDL-C ratio in the model,which included all significant factors for CVD incidence,improved the predictive risk,as indicated by the reclassification metrics(NRI 16.43%,95%CI 3.35%-29.52%,P=0.014).The restriction cubic spline plot demonstrated an upward trend betw

Dyslipidemia is a metabolic disorder with a higher prevalence among people living with human immunodeficiency virus(hiv)than that among the general population,and it significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD).[1]hiv infection can lead to dyslipidemia through persistent inflammation,immune activation,and direct effects on lipid metabolism.[1]The initiation of antiretroviral therapy(ART)can exacerbate dyslipidemia,often characterized by increased concentrations of total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),and triglycerides(TG),along with a decrease in the concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C).[2]Additionally,traditional risk factors contribute to the development of dyslipidemia in this population.[3]

E-Cigarette Use Among Persons With Diagnosed hiv in the U.S.

Introduction: E-cigarettes emerged in the U.S. market in the late 2000s. In 2017, E-cigarette use among U.S. adults was 2.8%, with higher use among some population groups. Limited studies have assessed E-cigarette use among persons with diagnosed hiv. The purpose of this study is to describe the national prevalence estimates of E-cigarette use among persons with diagnosed hiv by selected sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical characteristics. Methods: Data were collected between June 2018 and May 2019 as part of the Medical Monitoring Project, an annual cross-sectional survey that produces nationally representative estimates of behavioral and clinical characteristics of persons with diagnosed hiv in the U.S. Statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were determined using chi-square tests. Data were analyzed in 2021. Results: Among persons with diagnosed hiv, 5.9% reported currently using E-cigarettes, 27.1% had ever used them but were not using them currently, and 72.9% had never used them. Current use of E-cigarettes was highest among persons with diagnosed hiv who currently smoke conventional cigarettes (11.1%), those with major depression (10.8%), those aged 25–34 years (10.5%), those who reported injectable and noninjectable drug use in the past 12 months (9.7%), those diagnosed <5 years ago (9.5%), those who self-reported sexual orientation as other (9.2%), and non-Hispanic White people (8.4%). Conclusions: Overall, findings suggest that a greater proportion of persons with diagnosed hiv used E-cigarettes than the overall U.S. adult population and that higher rates were observed among certain subgroups, including those who currently smoke cigarettes. E-cigarette use among persons with diagnosed hiv warrants continued attention because of its potential impact on hiv-related morbidity and mortality. © 2022
