Parameter-efficient fine-tuning of pre-trained code models for just-in-time defect prediction

Software engineering workflows use version control systems to track changes and handle merge cases from multiple contributors. This has introduced challenges to testing because it is impractical to test whole codebases to ensure each change is defect-free, and it is not enough to test changed files alone. Just-in-time software defect prediction (JIT-SDP) systems have been proposed to solve this by predicting the likelihood that a code change is defective. Numerous techniques have been studied to build such JIT software defect prediction models, but the power of pre-trained code transformer language models in this task has been underexplored. These models have achieved human-level performance in code understanding and software engineering tasks. Inspired by that, we modeled the problem of change defect prediction as a text classification task utilizing these pre-trained models. We have investigated this idea on a recently published dataset, ApacheJIT, consisting of 44k commits. We concatenated the changed lines in each commit as one string and augmented it with the commit message and static code metrics. Parameter-efficient fine-tuning was performed for 4 chosen pre-trained models, JavaBERT, CodeBERT, CodeT5, and CodeReviewer, with either partially frozen layers or low-rank adaptation (LoRA). Additionally, experiments with the Local, Sparse, and Global (LSG) attention variants were conducted to handle long commits efficiently, which reduces memory consumption. As far as the authors are aware, this is the first investigation into the abilities of pre-trained code models to detect defective changes in the ApacheJIT dataset. Our results show that proper fine-tuning improves the defect prediction performance of the chosen models in the F1 scores. CodeBERT and CodeReviewer achieved a 10% and 12% increase in the F1 score over the best baseline models, JITGNN and JITLine, when commit messages and code metrics are included. This research presents an innovative deep learning-based predictive maintenance model designed for smart automotive systems, utilizing the EnsembleAE-Boost (EAE-Boost) algorithm. The primary objective of the proposed model is to enhance the prediction accuracy and fault detection capabilities of smart vehicles through advanced machine learning techniques. The EAE-Boost algorithm, an ensemble model integrating auto encoders and boosting, is compared with existing algorithms, namely K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Deep Neural Networks (DNN), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), based on key simulation metrics, including accuracy, precision, prediction time, and fault detection rate. Simulation results demonstrate that the EAE-Boost algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms, achieving superior performance in all metrics. Notably, the proposed method showed significant improvements in accuracy and fault detection rate, with a reduction in prediction time, highlighting its potential for real-time maintenance applications in smart automotive systems. The findings underscore the effectiveness of the proposed deep learning model in enhancing vehicle reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. © 2025 IEEE.

Currently, open-source software is gradually being integrated into industrial software, while industry protocolsin industrial software are also gradually transferred to open-source community development. Industrial protocolstandardization organizations are confronted with fragmented and numerous code PR (Pull Request) and informalproposals, and differentworkflowswill lead to increased operating costs. The open-source community maintenanceteam needs software that is more intelligent to guide the identification and classification of these issues. To solvethe above problems, this paper proposes a PR review prediction model based on multi-dimensional features. Weextract 43 features of PR and divide them into five dimensions: contributor, reviewer, software project, PR, andsocial network of developers. The model integrates the above five-dimensional features, and a prediction model isbuilt based on a Random Forest Classifier to predict the review results of PR. On the other hand, to improve thequality of rejected PRs, we focus on problems raised in the review process and review comments of similar *** a PR revision recommendation model based on the PR review knowledge graph. Entity information andrelationships between entities are extracted from text and code information of PRs, historical review comments,and related issues. PR revisions will be recommended to code contributors by graph-based similarity *** experimental results illustrate that the above twomodels are effective and robust in PR review result predictionand PR revision recommendation.

A Hybrid Approach to Dynamic Thread Allocation Driven by Workload and Task Prioritization

In today’s rapidly changing world, cloud service providers face numerous challenges in managing resources and meeting customer demands. To address these challenges, cloud service providers should prioritize the tasks and allocate threads efficiently. By allocating threads efficiently, service providers can optimize resource utilization and reduce response times and job completion times which in turn improves customer satisfaction. We propose a hybrid model that integrates the threshold-driven thread Balancer (TDTB) for dynamic thread allocation with a Customer Retention Model (CRM) to prioritize tasks based on customer behaviour. Our model initiates the establishment of a thread pool configured with a dynamic threshold based on workload (on-demand requests). Concurrently, a queue to handle incoming customer requests is set up alongside a CRM priority queue designed for task prioritization. Our model calculates Job duration and completion times for n priority classes. Crown consumers experience shorter durations and completion times compared to other priority classes. Tasks are completed in descending order of priority. The primary goal of this paper is to introduce a novel method for mining frequent and interesting items by incorporating correlation analysis between two items in an uncertain transactional database using the OWA operator. The work is further expanded by proposing two additional methods for mining frequent and interesting items, utilizing fuzzy means and the OWA operator along with multiple correlation analysis for more than two items in uncertain transactional databases. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is evaluated by running the algorithms on both standard and example datasets, with results compared to the traditional probabilistic approach for identifying frequent and interesting items through multiple correlation. While multiple correlation analysis highlights the relationships of interestingness and uninterestingness between items, the OWA operator enhances the results when combined with fuzzy means and probabilistic methods. Additionally, the paper suggests a future research direction using Neutrosophy logic, which is anticipated to open new avenues for further exploration in this field. © 2025, University of New Mexico. The usage of machine learning and deep learning algorithms have necessitated Artificial Intelligence'. AI is aimed at automating things by limiting human interference. It is widely used in IT, healthcare, finance, and agriculture. It is achieved through several deep learning algorithms that reflect the human brain's intelligence. These AI algorithms can be manipulated according to changing needs and improved efficiency. This paper tries to utilize the developments made in AI technology to classify the images and recognize the objects present in them. One widely used AI algorithm is CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks). The CNN is a deep learning-based algorithm that consists of various layers that extract and filters the parameters present in the images. Some additional layers of ResNet50 and the CNN algorithm are used to extract the parameters to improve image recognition accuracy. The image dataset taken for training and testing the proposed model is imageNet. The images are initially processed before sending them to the proposed model. The proposed model is trained, validated, and tested through the images obtained after the initial processing. The same process is repeated several times until getting the maximum accuracy. The accuracy of the proposed model in terms of image recognition is recorded. The obtained results are compared with other image classification algorithms like VGG16 and VGG19. Patients and healthcare practitioners have commended the systems’ effectiveness, ease, and user-friendliness in several situations. Utilizing cutting-edge ideas and methods from the multidisciplinary domains of electricity, computing, medical engineering, and medicine, mobile healthcare (m-health) technology advances these professions’ contributions to healthcare systems. The monitoring and delivery of healthcare interventions are becoming increasingly dependent on mobile phones. Because of their sophisticated processing functions, improved preferences, and wide range of capabilities, they are frequently referred to as pocket computers. Their advanced sensors and intricate software programmers increase the viability and innovation of m-health solutions. To design the m-health application, the design science research methodology (DSRM) framework was used. Additionally, the architecture for connecting the hospital information system and mobile device network together was established. Given the severity of waste pollution as a major environmental concern, intelligent and sustainable waste management is becoming increasingly crucial in both developed and developing countries. The material composition and volume of urban solid waste are key considerations in processing, managing, and utilizing city waste. Deep learning technologies have emerged as viable solutions to address waste management issues by reducing labor costs and automating complex tasks. However, the limited number of trash image categories and the inadequacy of existing datasets have constrained the proper evaluation of machine learning model performance across a large number of waste classes. In this paper, we present robust waste image classification and object detection studies using deep learning models, utilizing 28 distinct recyclable categories of waste images comprising a total of 10,406 images. For the waste classification task, we proposed a novel dual-stream network that outperformed several state-of-the-art models, achieving an overall classification accuracy of 83.11%. Additionally, we introduced the GELAN-E (generalized efficient layer aggregation network) model for waste object detection tasks, obtaining a mean average precision (mAP50) of 63%, surpassing other state-of-the-art detection models. These advancements demonstrate significant progress in the field of intelligent waste management, paving the way for more efficient and effective solutions. © The Author(s) 2024.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is pivotal in transforming the way we live and interact with our surroundings. To cope with the advancement in technologies, it is vital to acquire accuracy with the speed. A phase frequency detector (PFD) is a critical device to regulate and provide accurate frequency in IoT devices. Designing a PFD poses challenges in achieving precise phase detection, minimising dead zones, optimising power consumption, and ensuring robust performance across various operational frequencies, necessitating complex engineering and innovative solutions. This study delves into optimising a PFD circuit, designed using 90 nm standard CMOS technology, aiming to achieve superior operational frequencies. An efficient and high-frequency PFD design is crafted and analysed using cadence virtuoso. The study focused on investigating the impact of optimising PFD design. With the optimised PFD, an operational frequency of 5 GHz has been achieved, along with a power consumption of only 29 µW. The dead zone of the PFD was only 25 ps. © 2024 by the author(s).
