The task of detecting fraud in credit card transactions is crucial to ensure the security and stability of a financial system, as well as to enforce customer confidence in digital payment systems. Historically, credit card companies have used rule-based approaches to detect fraudulent transactions, but these have proven inadequate due to the complexity of fraud strategies and have been replaced by much more powerful solutions based on machine learning or deep learning algorithms. Despite significant progress, the current approaches to fraud detection suffer from a number of limitations: for example, it is unclear whether some transaction features are more effective than others in discriminating fraudulent transactions, and they often neglect possible correlations among transactions, even though they could reveal illicit behaviour. In this paper, we propose a novel credit card fraud detection (CCFD) method based on a transaction behaviour-based hierarchical gated network. First, we introduce a feature-oriented extraction module capable of identifying key features from original transactions, and such analysis is effective in revealing the behavioural characteristics of fraudsters. Second, we design a transaction-oriented extraction module capable of capturing the correlation between users' historical and current transactional behaviour. Such information is crucial for revealing users' sequential behaviour patterns. Our approach, called transactional-behaviour-based hierarchical gated network model (TbHGN), extracts two types of new transactional features, which are then combined in a feature interaction module to learn the final transactional representations used for CCFD. We have conducted extensive experiments on a real-world credit card transaction dataset with an increase in average F1 between 1.42% and 6.53% and an improvement in average AUC between 0.63% and 2.78% over the state of the art. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. Identification of Non-Restorative Sleep Associated with Depression Using Ambulatory Electrocardiogram and Triaxial Acceleration

Objective: Non-restorative sleep is prevalent among individuals with depression and is strongly associated with the severity of the condition. Therefore, identifying non-restorative sleep can aid in the early screening of depression. Investigating non-restorative sleep in depression necessitates long-term monitoring under naturalistic conditions. Methods: In this study, we recruited 149 participants and collected electrocardiogram and triaxial acceleration from them, resulting in a total of 761 nights of data. The period from midnight to 6:30 AM was segmented into 78 five-minute intervals, from which 40 physiological features were extracted for each interval. To deal with variations in sleep patterns across participants and dates, we reordered the sleep data based on levels of parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activation to explore the underlying neural mechanisms of non-restorative sleep in individuals with depressive symptoms. Results: We developed a model that integrated convolutional neural networks with an attention mechanism to identify nonrestorative sleep in individuals with depressive symptoms. The model demonstrated impressive performance on an independent test set, achieving an accuracy of 81.25% and an F1 score of 77.85%. Additionally, Bayes' theorem was used to compute the posterior probability indicating nonrestorative sleep in this population, assessing abnormal PNS activation. Conclusion: Finally, we designed a system capable of automatically evaluating nighttime sleep status and quantifying changes in non-restorative sleep associated with depression. Significance: This system offers a novel tool and method for the early identification of individuals at risk of depression. © 1964-2012 IEEE.

With the proliferation of IoT devices, there is an escalating demand for enhanced computing and communication capabilities. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) addresses this need by relocating computing resources to the network edge, thereby delivering swifter and more efficient services. This paper introduces a computation offloading and energy consumption optimization framework that leverages Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and MEC. The scheme aims to maximize energy efficiency through the optimization of task allocation, RIS phase shifts, and UAV trajectories. By employing the Multi-Agent Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MATD3) reinforcement learning algorithm, the paper further refines UAV trajectories and RIS configurations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method surpasses the traditional Concave-Convex Procedure (CCCP) algorithm in both UAV trajectory control and RIS configuration, demonstrating quicker convergence and enhanced stability. The method proves to be adaptable to diverse environments and tasks, showcasing notable benefits in RIS-assisted interference suppression, particularly with large RIS, thereby enhancing UAV data reception rates. Additionally, MATD3 exhibits faster and smoother convergence for extended task durations and smaller RIS scenarios. Simulation results reveal that UAVs tend to move closer to RIS, with energy efficiency falling as IoT tasks increase, affirming the proposed algorithm's high energy efficiency and effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.

Adaptive walking control of quadruped robots based on central pattern generator (CPG) and reflex

This paper presents a central pattern generator （CPG） and vestibular reflex combined control strategy for a quadruped robot. An oscillator network and a knee-to-hip mapping function are presented to realize the rhythmic motion for the quadruped robot. A two-phase parameter tuning method is designed to adjust the parameters of oscillator network. First, based on the numerical simulation, the influences of the parameters on the output signals are analyzed, then the genetic algorithm （GA） is used to evolve the phase relationships of the oscillators to realize the basic animal-like walking pattern. Moreover, the animal＇s vestibular reflex mechanism is mimicked to realize the adaptive walking of the quadruped robot on a slope terrain. Coupled with the sensory feedback information, the robot can walk up and down the slope smoothly. The presented bio-inspired control method is validated through simulations and experiments with AIBO. Under the control of the presented CPG and vestibular reflex combined control method, AIBO can cope with slipping, falling down and walk on a slope successfully, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed walking control method.

Adaptive output feedback control for uncertain nonholonomic chained systems

An adaptive output feedback control was proposed to deal with a class of nonholonomic systems in chained form with strong nonlinear disturbances and drift terms. The objective was to design adaptive nonlinear output feedback laws such that the closed-loop systems were globally asymptotically stable, while the estimated parameters remained bounded. The proposed systematic strategy combined input-state-scaling with backstepping technique. The adaptive output feedback controller was designed for a general case of uncertain chained system. Furthermore, one special case was considered. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Semantic communication is envisioned as a potential communication paradigm enabled by artificial intelligence and is promising to break the Shannon limit for future 6G networks. This paradigm benefits unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to conserve communication resources and minimize latency by only transmitting task-relevant semantic information. However, resource allocation in the multiple collaborative UAV scenarios remains unexplored, particularly regarding multi-modal semantic communication. To tackle this challenge, this paper investigates a semantic-aware intelligent resource allocation method for multi-UAV-assisted semantic communication networks in the UAV image-sensing task-oriented scenario. A multi-modal semantic communication framework with multi-UAV relay collaboration is developed. At the semantic level, a novel quality of experience (QoE) and the transmission cost model are introduced, based on which a semantic-aware resource allocation problem is formulated, aiming to maximize QoE while minimizing the transmission cost by jointly optimizing the UAV trajectory, the spectrum bandwidth, the transmit power and the number of the transmitted semantic symbols. To deal with optimization challenges involving hybrid variables and coordination among UAVs, a multi-UAV hybrid decision-controlled deep reinforcement learning (DRL) scheme is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared with the benchmark schemes in achieving a good balance between the QoE and the transmission cost. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

In addition to enhancing wireless communication coverage quality, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technique can also assist in positioning. In this work, we consider RIS-assisted superimposed pilot and data transmission without the assumption availability of prior channel state information and position information of mobile user equipments (UEs). To tackle this challenge, we design a frame structure of transmission protocol composed of several location coherence intervals, each with pure-pilot and data-pilot transmission durations. The former is used to estimate UE locations, while the latter is time-slotted, duration of which does not exceed the channel coherence time, where the data and pilot signals are transmitted simultaneously. We conduct the Fisher information matrix (FIM) analysis and derive Craḿer-Rao bound (CRB) for the position estimation error. The inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) is adopted to obtain the estimation results of UE positions, which are then exploited for channel estimation. Furthermore, we derive the closed-form lower bound of the ergodic achievable rate of superimposed pilot (SP) transmission, which is used to optimize the phase profile of the RIS to maximize the achievable sum rate using the genetic algorithm. Finally, numerical results validate the accuracy of the UE position estimation using the IFFT algorithm and the superiority of the proposed SP scheme by comparison with the regular pilot scheme. © 1972-2012 IEEE.
