Hashing methods help retrieve swiftly in large-scale dataset, which is important for real-world image retrieval. New data is produced continually in the real world which may cause concept drift and inaccurate retrieval results. To address this issue, hashing methods in non-stationary environments are proposed. However, most hashing methods in non-stationary data environments are supervised. In practice, it is hard to get exact labels of data especially in non-stationary data environments. Therefore, we propose the unsupervised multi-hashing (UMH) method for unsupervised image retrieval in non-stationary environments. Thus, in the UMH, a set of hash functions is trained and added to the kept list of hash functions sets when a new data chunk occurs. Then, multiple sets of hash functions are kept with different weights to guarantee that similarity information in old and new data are both adapted. Experiments on two real-world image datasets show that the UMH yields better retrieval performance in non-stationary environments than other comparative methods.

The early detection of colorectal polyps is crucial for the reduction of mortality rates. However, manually identifying polyps is time-consuming and expensive, increasing the risk of missing them. Our paper aims to address this issue by presenting an automated segmentation approach for colorectal polyps. This paper proposes a method that combines a skip connection with hybrid attention guidance (AG) using attention guidance (AG) and residual path frameworks to identify salient features. Furthermore, we augment test samples using original, horizontal flip, and vertical flip transformations to enhance model robustness through Test Time Augmentation (TTA). The model was trained with Kvasir-seg samples and evaluated on Kvasir-seg and CVC-ClinicDB datasets to gauge generalizability. A significant accuracy (0.9546), a Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 0.8557, a Cross-section over Union (IoU) of 0.8824, a Recall (0.8221), a Precision (0.8922), an area under Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC-AUC) of 0.9454, and an area under Precision-Recall (AUC-PR) of 0.8717 were achieved without TTA. Through TTA integration, accuracy (0.9993), DSC (0.8663), IoU (0.8277), Recall (0.8060), Precision (0.9364), and ROC-AUC (0.9587) have been improved. A comparison of our framework with state-of-the-art models demonstrated its effectiveness and segmentation capabilities. Additionally, the proposed model contains only 0.47 million parameters and a weight size of 6.71 MB, illustrating its potential for clinical diagnostics. A computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system improves patient outcomes by detecting colorectal polyps early and improving segmentation accuracy.

Automatic modulation recognition for frequency-hopping (FH) signals remains very challenging to researchers due to the signals' time-varying spectral characteristics. In this work, a novel robust automatic modulation recognition scheme is investigated for FH signals using the phase-space topological features represented by the embedded phase diagrams. As such embedded phase diagrams are often high-dimensional, it is necessary to formulate the phase-space features as tensors. In the training process, the phase-space tensor features will be utilized to establish the regression models as linear encoders for the individual modulations. The aforementioned linear encoders are constructed using the support vector machine (SVM);the phase-space feature-tensors of the training signals of all modulations will be projected by their corresponding regression models (or linearly encoded) to produce the representative code-vectors, respectively. In the test stage, the phase-space feature-tensor produced from a test signal will be projected by each individual trained regression model (or linearly encoded) to generate the respective code-vectors. Then, the code-vectors resulting from the test stage will be compared with the representative code-vectors to find which modulation will lead to the smallest Euclidean distance in between and such a modulation will be picked as the modulation type of the test signal. Monte Carlo simulation results have demonstrated that the average recognition accuracy of our proposed new approach is more than 90% when the signal-to-noise ratio is no less than 0 dB for additive white Gaussian noise. © 2023 IEEE.

Band Sampling of Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection in Effective Anomaly Space

This article investigates four issues, background (BKG) suppression (BS), anomaly detectability, noise effect, and interband correlation reduction (IBCR), which have significant impacts on its performance. Despite that a recently developed effective anomaly space (EAS) was designed to use data sphering (DS) to remove the second-order data statistics characterized by BKG, enhance anomaly detectability, and reduce noise effect, it does not address the IBCR issue. To cope with this issue, this article introduces band sampling (BSam) into EAS to reduce IBCR and further suppress BKG more effectively. By implementing EAS in conjunction with BSam (EAS-BSam), these four issues can be resolved altogether for any arbitrary anomaly detector. It first modifies iterative spectral-spatial hyperspectral anomaly detection (ISSHAD) to develop a new variant of ISSHAD, called iterative spectral-spatial maximal map (ISSMax), and then generalizes ISSMax to EAS-ISSMax, which further enhances anomaly detectability and noise removal. Finally, EAS-BSam is implemented to reduce IBCR. As a result, combining EAS, BSam, and ISSMax yields four versions: EAS-BSam, EAS-ISSMax, BSam-SSMAX, and EAS-BSam-SSMax. Such integration presents a great challenge because all these four versions are derived from different aspects, iterative spectral-spatial feedback process, compressive sensing, and low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition. Experiments demonstrate that EAS-BSam and EAS-BSam-SSMax show their superiority to ISSHAD and many current existing hyperspectral anomaly detection (HAD) methods. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Iterative Gaussian-Laplacian Pyramid Network for Hyperspectral Image Classification

Gaussian pyramid (GP) is a commonly used image coding technique that encodes an image as a pyramid that is stacked by a set of images with Gaussian window-reduced sizes and multiple spatial resolutions. Associated with GP, a Laplacian pyramid (LP) can be also constructed to represent differential images between images in two consecutive layers of GP. Such resulting Gaussian-Laplacian pyramid (GLP) performs data compression in a lossless and lossy manner. A convolutional neural network (CNN) consists of a series of layers concatenated in a feedforward manner where each layer has a convolutional sublayer (CL) and a pooling sublayer (PL). Interestingly, each layer implemented by CL and PL in a CNN can be realized by a single layer in GP in the sense that CL and PL can be carried out by a low-pass Gaussian filter operated as a Gaussian kernel in a single layer of GP. This article develops a new approach to hyperspectral image classification (HSIC), called the GLP network (GLPN), which uses not only GP to realize CNN but also LP to capture differential information between two consecutive layers that CNN cannot. Furthermore, by incorporating an iterative process into GLPN, we can derive an iterative GLPN (IGLPN) that can be considered a companion of a recently developed iterative random training sampling CNN (IRTS-CNN) by replacing CNN with GLPN. Since GLPN can realize CNN in a better way, it is expected that IGLPN will perform better than IRTS-CNN and also significantly reduce computational efficiency compared to IRTS-CNN. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Early hierarchical computational visual models as well as recent deep neural networks have been inspired by the functioning of the primate visual cortex system. Although much effort has been made to dissect neural networks to visualize the features they learn at the individual units, the scope of the visualizations has been limited to a categorization of the features in terms of their semantic level. Considering the ability humans have to select high semantic level regions of a scene, the question whether neural networks can match this ability, and if similarity with humans attention is correlated with neural networks performance naturally arise. To address this question we propose a pipeline to select and compare sets of feature points that maximally activate individual networks units to human fixations. We extract features from a variety of neural networks, from early hierarchical models such as HMAX up to recent deep convolutional neural netwoks such as Densnet, to compare them to human fixations. Experiments over the ETD database show that human fixations correlate with CNNs features from deep layers significantly better than with random sets of points, while they do not with features extracted from the first layers of CNNs, nor with the HMAX features, which seem to have low semantic level compared with the features that respond to the automatically learned filters of CNNs. It also turns out that there is a correlation between CNN's human similarity and classification performance. © 2020 IEEE

LRRNet: A Novel Representation Learning Guided Fusion Network for Infrared and Visible Images

Deep learning based fusion methods have been achieving promising performance in image fusion tasks. This is attributed to the network architecture that plays a very important role in the fusion process. However, in general, it is hard to specify a good fusion architecture, and consequently, the design of fusion networks is still a black art, rather than science. To address this problem, we formulate the fusion task mathematically, and establish a connection between its optimal solution and the network architecture that can implement it. This approach leads to a novel method proposed in the paper of constructing a lightweight fusion network. It avoids the time-consuming empirical network design by a trial-and-test strategy. In particular we adopt a learnable representation approach to the fusion task, in which the construction of the fusion network architecture is guided by the optimisation algorithm producing the learnable model. The low-rank representation (LRR) objective is the foundation of our learnable model. The matrix multiplications, which are at the heart of the solution are transformed into convolutional operations, and the iterative process of optimisation is replaced by a special feed-forward network. Based on this novel network architecture, an end-to-end lightweight fusion network is constructed to fuse infrared and visible light images. Its successful training is facilitated by a detail-to-semantic information loss function proposed to preserve the image details and to enhance the salient features of the source images. Our experiments show that the proposed fusion network exhibits better fusion performance than the state-of-the-art fusion methods on public datasets. In this big data era, distributed machine learning and global data pooling have become quite critical in practical implementation of any multimedia data-science technique. The emerging federated multimedia recommendation systems (FeMRSs) offer a promising approach to address the need of personalized recommendations subject to both users’ privacy and data security. However, there exists no quantitative method for assessing the discrepancy between the large original rating matrix stored on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix produced on each client’s equipment. Meanwhile, there lacks a systematic means to evaluate the differential privacy (DP), which is a critical security measure in many distributed systems, particularly when sensitive data are processed. In this work, we first introduce a novel personalized dimensionalityreduction algorithm utilizing the matrix sketching technique. This new algorithm effectively control the difference between the original rating matrix on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix on each client’s equipment. Moreover, a randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm is designed to be executed at each client’s equipment. The theoretical proof is also carried out to show how much DP can be attained by use of the aforementioned randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm. Finally, extensive numerical studies are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed novel algorithms using both simulated and real datasets for building the FeMRSs.

This study explores the integration of HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) into a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) utilizing a Pepper robot to enhance doctor visits in a hospital setting. We evaluate a real-world implementation where the Pepper robot acts as an interface for data collection from patients, clinical monitors, and hospital information systems. The CDSS leverages FHIR to seamlessly integrate this data and present it visually, aiming to improve clinical decision-making processes for doctors. Our research investigates the potential of this FHIR-based CDSS with a robot interface to optimize healthcare delivery and potentially improve patient outcomes.
