The antenna presented in this article will be developed for satellite communications onboard systems based on the recommendations ITU-R S.580-6 [1] and ITU-R S.465-5 [2]. The antenna consists of printed elements grouped in an array, this terminal works in a frequency band from 7.25 up to 8.4 GHz (14.7% of bandwidth), where both bands, reception (7.25 - 7.75 GHz) and transmission (7.9 - 8.4 GHz), are included simultaneously. The antenna reaches a gain about 31 dBi, and it has a radiation pattern with a beamwidth smaller than 10° and a dual circular polarization. The antenna has the capability to steer in elevation from 90° to 40° electronically and 360 in azimuth with a motorized junction. © 2011 EurAAP.

We demonstrate for the first time an analytical model for computing the saturation throughput of a Medium-Transparent MAC protocol in 60 GHz Radio-over-Fiber networks, assuming a finite number of terminals and ideal channel conditions. The model takes into account contention both at the optical and the wireless layer, effectively incorporating the Medium-Transparent MAC mechanism for seamless and dynamic capacity allocation over both optical and wireless transmission media. Based on this model, we provide an extensive saturation throughput performance analysis of the Medium Transparent MAC protocol for various optical capacity availability scenarios and different numbers of wireless users. The theoretical results are found to be in good agreement with respective simulation-based findings, confirming that the employment of Medium Transparent MAC protocols can allow for efficient extended LAN operation of 60 Radio-over-Fiber networks.

Best language recognition performance is commonly obtained by fusing the scores of several heterogeneous systems. Regardless the fusion approach, it is assumed that different systems may contribute complementary information, either because they are developed on different datasets, or because they use different features or different modeling approaches. Most authors apply fusion as a final resource for improving performance based on an existing set of systems. Though relative performance gains decrease as larger sets of systems are considered, best performance is usually attained by fusing all the available systems, which may lead to high computational costs. In this paper, we aim to discover which technologies combine the best through fusion and to analyse the factors (data, features, modeling methodologies, etc.) that may explain such a good performance. Results are presented and discussed for a number of systems provided by the participating sites and the organizing team of the Albayzin 2010 Language Recognition Evaluation. We hope the conclusions of this work help research groups make better decisions in developing language recognition technology.

This document presents an approach to the phase centre determination of a dielectric rod waveguide (DRW) antenna by means of measurements obtained with a planar measuring system at millimeter wave lengths. Phase centre determination by the least squares fit technique is described in this document for different DRW antennas (silicon and sapphire). Results at different operating frequencies are offered.

ARTMAP based architectures have several desirable properties that make them very suitable for pattern classification problems. However, they suffer from category proliferation. Distributed coding has been proposed as a solution for memory compression and the dARTMAP neural network has been introduced as a modification of the fuzzy ARTMAP that, due to distributed learning, achieves code compression while fast stable learning is retained. A critical analysis of dARTMAP architecture and performance in pattern recognition problems is presented, concluding that distributed learning excels the original fuzzy ARTMAP only under certain geometrical configurations of the output classes, or in the presence of noise in the training set. A new architecture called dFasArt is presented, introducing distributed learning into the FasArt neuro-fuzzy system, which is more suitable for identification tasks, showing that the advantages of distributed code can be extended to other neural architectures. Experimental results show that dFasArt performs similarly to dARTMAP in classification tasks, while being less sensitive to pattern presentation order.

In this paper a new neuro-fuzzy system is proposed for both tasks of document analysis and Optical Character Recognition. FasART (Fuzzy adaptive system ART based) inherits the stability, flexibility and modularity properties of ART supervised models, but with a formal description as a Fuzzy Logic System, and increased functionality. On the other hand Recursive FasART permits us to exploit context information, crucial aspect in document understanding. Satisfactory experimental results are presented for the global application of building a digital library of scientific papers, giving special emphasis on the creation of links between items in table of contents and paper first pages.
