This paper addresses the problem of robotics trajectory building for efficient navigation and consequently exploration. A concept of beta-eigenvector has been introduced to find an outlier for the existing non-point based trajectory obtained from raw laser data. We have used our paradigm of “free configuration eigenspaces” method, with specific focus on outlier detection. The key idea proposed in this paper is to replace the Gaussian distribution utilized by the probabilistic principal component analysis (PPCA) with the beta-distribution. It is a well known issue that the conventional PCA is sensitive to anomalous observations because the calculation of sample mean and covariance matrix can be significantly influenced by a small number of outliers. Similarly, PPCA is not robust to outliers since the data are assumed to follow a multivariate Gaussian distribution that is easily affected by deviant observations. An outlier detection is done using Beta-Probabilistic Principal Component Analysis (BPPCA), further more an analysis is proposed to identify which variables contribute the most to the occurrence of outliers. The proposed technique is applied on real-time robotics sensor data as well as on the real-time robotics simulation environment.

Road accidents and traffic jams are common problems being the target of a lot of research works to be resolved in current traffic system. Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is commonly part of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) which is directly involved in handling these problems and aims to make journey on road comfortable. In this paper, vehicular SMS system (VSS) is proposed based on cellular network to provide VANET services to users through SMS system. It has the potential of being more cost effective solution as compared to VANET but needs further research to resolve its trust and privacy issues.

Realizing aliasing-free space compressor for built-in self-testing of very large scale integration circuits and systems is of immense practical significance, especially due to the design paradigm shift in recent years from system-on-board to system-on-chip. This paper explores and provides new results on extending the scope of a recently developed approach to synthesizing aliasing-free space compaction hardware targeting particularly embedded cores-based system-on-chips for single stuck-line faults, utilizing well known concept from conventional switching theory, viz. that of compatibility relation as used in the minimization of incompletely specified sequential machines. For a pair of response outputs of the circuit under test, the method uses the notion of fault detection compatibility and conditional fault detection compatibility (conditional upon some other response output pair being simultaneously fault detection compatible) with respect to two-input AND/NAND nonlinear logic. The process is illustrated with development details of space compressors for the International Symposium on Circuits and Systems or ISCAS 85 combinational and ISCAS 89 full-scan sequential benchmark circuits (results on full-scan sequential circuits though not included in the paper) using simulation programs ATalANTA and FSIM, showing the relevance of the technique from the viewpoint of simplicity, resultant low area overhead and full fault coverage for single stuck-line faults, thereby making it an ideal choice in actual design environments.

Network Intrusions are critical issues in computer and network systems. Several intrusion detection approaches be present to resolve these severe problems but the major problem is performance. To increase performance, it is significant to increase the detection rates and reduce false alarm rates in the area of intrusion detection. The recent approaches use Principal Component Analysis （PCA） to project features space to principal feature space and select features corresponding to the highest eigenvalues, but the features corresponding to the highest eigenvalues may not have the optimal sensitivity for the classifier due to ignoring many sensitive features. Instead of using traditional approach of selecting features with the highest eigenvalues such as PCA, we applied a Genetic algorithm （GA） to search the principal feature space for genetic eigenvectors that offers a subset of features with optimal sensitivity and the highest discriminatory power. Therefore, in this research, a mechanism for optimal features subset selection is proposed to overcome performance issues using PCA, GA and Multilayer Perceptron （MLP）. The KDD-cup dataset is used that is a benchmark for evaluating the security detection mechanisms. The MLP is used for classification purpose. The performance of this approach is addresses. Consequently, this method provides optimal intrusion detection mechanism which is capable to minimize amount of features and maximize the detection rates.

Runtime analysis of (1+1) evolutionary algorithm for two combinatorial optimization instances

Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have been used widely and successfully in solving classical combinatorial optimization problems. There are many experimental results in literature concerning combinatorial optimization problems and some theoretical runtime analyses on toy problems, e.g., pseudo-Boolean functions. However, relatively few theoretical results on the runtime analysis of EAs on classical combinatorial optimization problems are available. In this paper, we first conduct a runtime analysis of a simple Evolutionary algorithm called (1+1)EA on a TSP instance. We represent a tour as a string of integers, and randomly choose either the 2-opt or 3-opt operator as the mutation operator in each iteration. The expected runtime of (1+1)EA on this TSP instance is proved to be O(n4), which is tighter than O(n6+(1/ρ)nlnn) of (1+1) MMAA (Max-Min ant algorithms). A similar approach is then applied to tackle a classical assignment problem instance, where we prove that (1+1)EA needs an average runtime of O(n3). This article demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed algorithms and runtime analysis approach. © 2009 by Binary Information Press.

It was with great excitement that we planned the combined meetings of Northeast Aquaculture Conference and Exposition (NACE) and the International Conference on Shellfish Restoration (ICSR) with the 33rd Milford Aquaculture Seminar (MAS). Bringing these different but complementary audiences together resulted in a meeting that combined many different aspects of fisheries restoration and aquaculture under one *** hundred attendees including government representatives, research scientists, industry, and academia at both the university and vocational high school levels attended this event. The meeting commenced on Wednesday December 12th 2012, with over eighty people attending seven field trips to area aquaculture farms and research facilities. The formal program began on Thursday, December 13th with a plenary session including invited speakers Eric Schwabb, Acting Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Management at NOAA; Sebastian Belle, Executive Director of the Maine Aquaculture Association and Boze Hancock from the Nature Conservancy, who discussed the role of aquaculture in fisheries restoration. John Bullard, the Northeast Regional Administrator of NOAA Fisheries Service, addressed the group during the luncheon the following day. The technical papers and workshops presented were divided into 35 sessions over three days of the meeting and included topics such as the history of aquaculture, aquaculture hatchery innovations, siting and planning issues, risk management, aquaculture business management, ocean acidification, climate change, as well as aquaculture disease issues and potential remedies. Having persons present who have experienced problems and successes, along with those in manufacturing and government responsible for addressing concerns and sharing best practices, was invaluable. Discussions among this cross-section of persons who represent different aspects of aquaculture were as important as the well-presented and interesting formal papers

Transceiver-free object tracking is to trace a moving object without carrying any communication device in an environment where the environment is pre-deployed with some monitoring nodes. Among all the tracking technologies, RF-based technology is an emerging research field facing many challenges. although we proposed the original idea, until now there is no method achieving scalability without sacrificing latency and accuracy. In this paper, we put forward a real-time tracking system RASS, which can achieve this goal and is promising in the applications like the safeguard system. Our basic idea is to divide the tracking field into different areas, with adjacent areas using different communication channels. So the interference among different areas can be prevented. For each area, three communicating nodes are deployed on the ceiling as a regular triangle to monitor this area. In each triangle area, we use a Support Vector Regression (SVR) model to locate the object. This model simulates the relationship between the signal dynamics caused by the object and the object position. It not only considers the ideal case of signal dynamics caused by the object, but also utilizes their irregular information. As a result it can reach the tracking accuracy to around 1m by just using three nodes in a triangle area with 4m in each side. The experiments show that the tracking latency of the proposed RASS system is bounded by only about 0.26s. Our system scales well to a large deployment field without sacrificing the latency and accuracy.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) presented the 2010 Fall Symposium Series on November 11-13, 2010. The eight symposia included Cognitive and Metacognitive Educational Systems, Commonsense Knowledge, Complex Adaptive Systems: Resilience, Robustness, and Evolvability, Computational Models of Narrative, Dialog with Robots, Manifold Learning and Its Applications, Proactive Assistant Agents and Quantum Informatics for Cognitive, Social, and Semantic Processes. Cognitive and Metacognitive Educational Systems aimed to provide a comprehensive definition of metacognitive educational systems that is inclusive of the theoretical, architectural, and educational aspects of this field. The AAAI Commonsense Knowledge Fall Symposium had the goal of bringing together the diverse elements of this community whose work benefits from or contributes to the representation of general knowledge about the world. One of the specific goals of Proactive symposium was to gather the researchers from various projects in assistant agents to share their wisdom in retrospect.

Retinal images are used for the automated diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. The retinal image quality must be improved for the detection of features and abnormalities and for this purpose segmentation of retinal images is vital. In this paper, we present a novel automated approach for segmentation of colored retinal images. Our segmentation technique smoothes and strengthens images by separating the background and noisy area from the overall image thus resulting in retinal image enhancement and lower processing time. It contains coarse segmentation and fine segmentation. Standard retinal images databases Diaretdb0 and Diaretdb1 are used to test the validation of our segmentation technique. Experimental results indicate our approach is effective and can get higher segmentation accuracy. ©2010 IEEE.

A search for first-generation leptoquarks was performed in electron-proton and positron-proton collisions recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA in 2003–2007 using an integrated luminosity of 366 pb−1. Final states with an electron and jets or with missing transverse momentum and jets were analyzed, searching for resonances or other deviations from the standard model predictions. No evidence for any leptoquark signal was found. The data were combined with data previously taken at HERA, resulting in a total integrated luminosity of 498 pb−1. Limits on the Yukawa coupling, λ, of leptoquarks were set as a function of the leptoquark mass for different leptoquark types within the Buchmüller-Rückl-Wyler model. Leptoquarks with a coupling λ=0.3 are excluded for masses up to 699 GeV.
