Relating university students’ online self-regulated English learning to motivational beliefs: a structural equation modelling analysis

This study investigated university students’ online self-regulated English learning (OSEL) and related it to their motivational beliefs in order to probe important psychological factors that may predict how students use self-regulated strategies to facilitate their online English learning. The data was gathered from 337 Thai university nursing students. The instruments used in this study were validated to measure motivational beliefs and OSEL in the context of Thai university students. All motivational belief factors were significantly associated with OSEL. The results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicated that the construct validity of the questionnaire items was acceptable. Furthermore, the structural modelling analysis (SEM) showed that intrinsic value and cost were significant predictors of all OSEL strategies, namely, behavioural strategies, goal setting, and environment structuring. Meanwhile, academic self-efficacy and attainment value were positively related to certain OSEL factors. Implications for enhancing students’ motivation and self-regulation in online language learning as well as directions for further investigations are discussed. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The use of ensemble techniques is widely recognized as the most advanced approach to solving a variety of problems in machine learning. These strategies train many models and combine the results from all of those models in order to enhance the predictive performance of a single model. During the period of the last several years, the disciplines of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, machine learning, neural networks, and data mining have all given a considerable consideration to the concept of ensemble learning. Ensemble Learning has shown both effectiveness and usefulness across a broad range of problem domains and in significant real-world applications. Ensemble learning is a technique thatinvolves the construction of many classifiers or a group of base learneis and the merging of their respective outputs in order to decrease the total variance. When compared to using only one classifier or one base learner at a time, the accuracy of the results achieved by combining numerous dassifiers or the set of base learners is greatly improved. It has been shown that the use of ensemble methods may increase the predicted accuracy of machine learning models for a range of tasks, including classification, regression, and the identification of outliers. This study will discuss about ensemble machine learning techniques and its various methods such as bagging, boosting, and stacking. finally, all the factors involved in bagging, boosting, and stacking are compared. © 2023 IEEE.

Rainfall plays a significant role in managing the water level in the *** unpredictable amount of rainfall due to the climate change can cause either overflow or dry in the *** individuals,especially those in the agricultural sector,rely on rain *** rainfall is challenging because of the changing nature of the *** area of Jimma in southwest Oromia,Ethiopia is the subject of this research,which aims to develop a rainfall forecasting *** estimate Jimma's daily rainfall,we propose a novel approach based on optimizing the parameters of long short-term memory(LSTM)using Al-Biruni earth radius(BER)optimization algorithm for boosting the fore-casting accuracy.N ash-Sutcliffe model eficiency(NSE),mean square error(MSE),root MSE(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and R2 were all used in the conducted experiments to assess the proposed approach,with final scores of(0.61),(430.81),(19.12),and(11.09),***,we compared the proposed model to current machine-learning regression models;such as non-optimized LSTM,bidirectional LSTM(BiLSTM),gated recurrent unit(GRU),and convolutional LSTM(ConvLSTM).It was found that the proposed approach achieved the lowest RMSE of(19.12).In addition,the experimental results show that the proposed model has R-with a value outperforming the other models,which confirms the superiority of the proposed *** the other hand,a statistical analysis is performed to measure the significance and stability of the proposed approach and the recorded results proved the expected perfomance.

:Social media data are rapidly increasing and constitute a source of user opinions and tips on a wide range of products and *** increasing availability of such big data on biased reviews and blogs creates challenges for customers and businesses in reviewing all content in their decision-making *** overcome this challenge,extracting suggestions from opinionated text is a possible *** this study,the characteristics of suggestions are analyzed and a suggestion mining extraction process is presented for classifying suggestive sentences from online customers’reviews.A classification using a word-embedding approach is used via the XGBoost *** two datasets used in this experiment relate to online hotel reviews and Microsoft Windows App Studio discussion reviews.F1,precision,recall,and accuracy scores are *** results demonstrated that the XGBoost classifier outperforms—with an accuracy of more than 80%.Moreover,the results revealed that suggestion keywords and phrases are the predominant features for suggestion ***,this study contributes to knowledge and practice by comparing feature extraction classifiers and identifying XGBoost as a better suggestion mining process for identifying online reviews.

The recognition of the Arabic characters is a crucial task incomputer vision and Natural Language Processing fields. Some major complicationsin recognizing handwritten texts include distortion and patternvariabilities. So, the feature extraction process is a significant task in NLPmodels. If the features are automatically selected, it might result in theunavailability of adequate data for accurately forecasting the character ***, many features usually create difficulties due to high dimensionality *** this background, the current study develops a Sailfish Optimizer withDeep Transfer Learning-Enabled Arabic Handwriting Character Recognition(SFODTL-AHCR) model. The projected SFODTL-AHCR model primarilyfocuses on identifying the handwritten Arabic characters in the inputimage. The proposed SFODTL-AHCR model pre-processes the input imageby following the Histogram Equalization approach to attain this *** Inception with ResNet-v2 model examines the pre-processed image toproduce the feature vectors. The Deep Wavelet Neural Network (DWNN)model is utilized to recognize the handwritten Arabic characters. At last,the SFO algorithm is utilized for fine-tuning the parameters involved in theDWNNmodel to attain better performance. The performance of the proposedSFODTL-AHCR model was validated using a series of images. Extensivecomparative analyses were conducted. The proposed method achieved a maximum accuracy of 99.73%. The outcomes inferred the supremacy of theproposed SFODTL-AHCR model over other approaches.

Semantic communication, which focuses on conveying the meaning of information rather than exact bit reconstruction, has gained considerable attention in recent years. Meanwhile, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a promising technology that can achieve high spectral and energy efficiency by dynamically reflecting incident signals through programmable passive components. In this paper, we put forth a semantic communication scheme aided by RIS. Using text transmission as an example, experimental results demonstrate that the RIS-Assisted semantic communication system outperforms the point-To-point semantic communication system in terms of bilingual evaluation understudy (BLEU) scores in Rayleigh fading channels, especially at low signal-To-noise ratio (SNR) regimes. In addition, the RIS-Assisted semantic communication system exhibits superior robustness against channel estimation errors compared to its point-To-point counterpart. RIS can improve performance as it provides extra line-of-sight (LoS) paths and enhances signal propagation conditions compared to point-To-point systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Next Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendation has become a crucial task in Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs), which provide personalized recommendations by predicting the user’s next check-in locations. Commonly used models including Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) have been widely explored. However, these models face significant challenges, including the difficulty of capturing the hierarchical and tree-like structure of POIs in Euclidean space and the sparsity problem inherent in POI recommendations. To address these challenges, we propose a Hyperbolic Variational Graph Auto-Encoder (HVGAE) for next POI recommendation. Specifically, we utilize a Hyperbolic Graph Convolutional Network (Hyperbolic GCN) to model hierarchical structures and tree-like relationships by converting node embeddings from euclidean space to hyperbolic space. Then we use Variational Graph Auto-Encoder (VGAE) to convert node embeddings to probabilistic distributions, enhancing the capture of deeper latent features and providing a more robust model structure. Furthermore, we combine the Mamba4Rec recommender and Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE) and propose Rotary Position Mamba (RPMamba) to effectively utilize POI embeddings rich in sequential information, which improves the accuracy of the next POI recommendation. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the HVGAE model. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The utilisation of ML (Machine Learning) techniques in the detection of the VP (Voice Pathology) has recently gained a lot of consideration. However, these efforts still have several drawbacks such as: I) the accuracy rates of most previous works are still not promising and need more improvement. II) The majority of the previous works have concentrated on the task of VP detection only and disregarded the task of VP classification. III) Most of the previous works have been assessed based on a single voice data only like the vowel /a/, and the other vowels (/i/, and /u/) and sentences were disregarded. IV) The majority of the previous works performance were assessed utilising a limited evaluation metrics. Recently, one of the utmost effective ML techniques is FLN (Fast Learning Network), it is an efficient technique for data classification. However, the FLN classifier has not been implemented to the problem of VP detection and classification. Therefore, this research proposes the FLN classifier with MFCC (Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient) features in order to enhance the accuracy of the VP detection and classification. The FLN classifier has the ability to a) solve both binary and multiclass classification issues, b) eliminate overfitting, as well as c) operate akin to a NN (Neural Network) structure while employing the principles of a kernel-based SVM (Support Vector Machine). In this research, the SVD (Saarbrucken Voice Database) dataset was utilised to assess the FLN classifier performance in the VP detection and classification. The assessment of the proposed FLN classifier was conducted based on two phases: the first phase includes all the voice samples of the SVD dataset with the sentences and vowels (i.e., /a/, /i/, and /u/) which are pronounced in neutral, high, and low pitches. While the second phase uses the voice samples of the utmost common 3 pathology types (i.e., paralysis, polyp, and cyst) based on the vowel /a/ that is pronounced in neutral pitch. The

This paper presents the influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness, aspect ratio and damaged core on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite sandwich beams resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness of upper and bottom layers of the sandwich beam and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes’ effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. A damage model is introduced to provide an analytical description of an irreversible rheological process that causes the decay of the mechanical properties, in terms of engineering constants. An isotropic damage is considered for the core of the sandwich beams. The equations of motion are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory and employing Hamilton’s principle. The problem is modeled using a semi-analytical approach composed of generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and series solution adopted to solve the equations of motion. Detailed parametric studies are carried out to investigate the mechanical behavior of these multi-layered structures depending on the damage features, through-the-thickness distribution and boundary conditions. Also, the effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness, CNT aspect ratio, Winkler foundation modulus, shear elastic foundation modulus and geometrical conditions on the vibrational behavior of the sandwich structure are studied. © 2025 Techno-Press, Ltd.

In human life, skin cancer is a curse. If not appropriately diagnosed, it spreads around all body parts in the earlier stage. The melanoma skin cancer death rate is 75% all over the world. There is an urgent need for a cure to be in place. Swarm and evolutionary computation for healthcare deals with real-world healthcare applications. One of the best ways to do this is to find the genes that need to be turned off such that only cancer cells can die. The current therapies used to cure cancer focus on turning off cancer cells but, at times, affect healthy tissues. Using the power of Artificial Intelligence, one can easily mark out the cancer-affected area and provide treatment accordingly. Segmentation techniques can be used to mark cancer lesions, and advanced deep learning algorithms in computer vision can help classify which class of cancer lesions. Automatic detection of melanoma by using a dermoscopic sample is tricky to find the stage and percentage of lesions affected by using deep convolutional neural networks with the help of machine vision tools. To predict skin lesions, we developed a model with three layers, each having output channels of 16, 32, and 64, respectively. For this research, different samples were collected from the international skin imaging collaboration database (ISIC2019, ISIC2020, ISIC2021). The study computed the most important parameters for classifying and identifying the lesion with accuracy, precision, recall, and specificity values. The proposed DCNN model classifier attained an accuracy of 88.82%, 93.45%, and 95.15% with the respective datasets of ISIC2019, ISIC2020, and ISIC2021, indicating high performance compared with the other state-of-the-art networks. The proposed model is a better framework for automating early detection and classification of melanoma skin cancer to protect many lives and avoid mishaps. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
