Down Syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder causing intellectual disability and developmental delays. Despite instances of discrimination, several individuals with DS have achieved success through proper education and community support. This research addresses the challenges faced by children with DS in terms of motor skill development, cognitive impairments, and speech difficulties with the use of Deep Learning Technologies such as LSTM, CNN machine learning models. To bridge the educational gap and improve speech intelligibility, this study focuses on oral motor exercises that enhance articulation skills. Cognitive development in individuals with DS is also a concern, prompting the proposal of a self-learning system to foster cognitive growth. Fine motor skills improvement is explored through yoga exercises, and interventions like interactive technologies are considered to enhance learning experiences. This paper discusses the development of a user-friendly mobile application for early intervention in DS, integrating interactive activities using advanced technologies and a parent therapy dashboard. The system's potential for improving developmental skills and future expansion is emphasized. © 2023 IEEE.

One of the most pressing questions today is how to prevent or slow down climate change. As a service sector, transport significantly contributes to this and increases greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, creating long-term sustainable social, economic and environmental processes by eliminating current systemic failures can also be a significant challenge for individual nations. One thing is sure: the status quo is not sustainable. Taking all these aspects into account, this paper seeks to answer the question of the extent to which the performance of freight transport in each EU Member State contributes to the change in the ecological footprint and how national characteristics influence this. The research introduces a newly established indicator, the freight transport footprint, which is based on a family of footprint formulas and specifically seeks to answer the extent to which freight transport burdens our environment. © 2024 Budapest University of technology and Economics. The COVID-19 pandemic, declared a global emergency by WHO in March 2020, has had a profound impact on global health. With millions affected, the pandemic's magnitude became evident. Even advanced healthcare systems grappled with resource shortages, from protective gear to ventilators. Late diagnosis and the inability to adapt to new SARS-CoV-2 variants led to misdiagnoses and high casualties. Overburdened healthcare facilities and the absence of a centralized patient data system hindered swift decision-making. The lack of real-time monitoring meant many didn't receive timely, personalized care, underscoring the need for an integrated healthcare response during global emergencies. To tackle these challenges and improve hospital resource management during pandemics, this study presents a web approach harnessing big data analytics to develop a machine learning predictive model. This model has been developed to enable hospitals to assess patients' severity in real-time, taking into account a wide range of factors such as symptoms, medical history, and demographics. To acquire data regularly, a streaming data pipeline was established using Apache Kafka and Apache Streaming. In predicting the severity levels of patients, both Multinomial Logistic Regression and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) models were employed. One noteworthy finding was that using datasets with balanced classes yielded significantly higher accuracy for the MLP model compared to unbalanced datasets. Specifically, MLP achieved the highest accuracy of 60.4% when trained on balanced classes. This model's real-time severity insights have the potential to revolutionize decision-making and resource allocation in healthcare. It represents a significant step towards a more effective response to future pandemics and the strengthening of the global healthcare system. © 2023 IEEE.

Optimizing organic crop rotation and effectively managing pests and diseases remain a significant challenge for farmers. In this research, we propose a Smart System to Optimize Organic Crop Rotation using Precision Agriculture Data. The system leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technology, machine learning (ML) algorithms, and cloud computing to enhance decision-making and improve productivity in organic farming. The proposed system integrates multiple components to provide farmers with informed decisions for optimized crop rotation. Soil sensors collect data on soil health, which is then analyzed using a multi-objective optimization technique to determine the best crop for a given soil sample. Real-time weather data is incorporated to enable climate-resilient farming practices and help farmers make educated choices in selecting crops and implementing rotation plans. Additionally, a cloud computing-based model is developed for pest and disease identification, providing farmers with effective solutions to combat these challenges in organic methodologies. By leveraging IoT, ML, and cloud computing, our system proposes farmers a more efficient and effective approach to managing their crops. The system provides real-time data-driven recommendations on fertilizer selection and crop rotation, leading to improved crop growth, increased yields, and reduced environmental impact. Moreover, by adopting organic farming practices, the system contributes to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector. © 2023 IEEE.

Trade and transit have always played an important and prominent role in the life of humanity. Trade was already of great importance in ancient times, and the Industrial Revolution brought about significant changes, with the invention of the steam engine revolutionising transport and allowing goods to be transported not only in response to seasonal needs (e.g. after harvest, harvesting, etc.). The development of waterways and railways, in addition to roads, made it possible to transport goods over long distances more easily and quickly. From this point onwards, goods were constantly moved for trade by the various modes of transport, giving rise to the development of transport as a new service industry. All these processes played an integral role in developing the supply chains and trade routes we know today. In the present research, to map global trade trends and linkages, the trade relations between the European Union, China and the USA were first examined, and then, using correlation analysis and linear regression, the typical economic and trade indicators in the European Union were analysed. © 2024 Budapest University of technology and Economics. Enhancing visual clarity in hazy media: a comprehensive approach through preprocessing and feature fusion attention-based dehazing

Particles in the atmosphere, such as dust and smoke, can cause visual clarity problems in both images and videos. Haze is the result of the interaction between airborne particles and light, which is scattered and attenuated. Hazy media present difficulties in a variety of applications due to the reduced contrast and loss of essential information. In response, dehazing techniques have been introduced to bring hazy videos and images back to clarity. Here, we provide a novel technique for eliminating haze. It comprises preprocessing steps before dehazing. Preprocessing is applied to hazy images through homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). We present a dehazing technique referred to as the pre-trained Feature Fusion Attention Network (FFA-Net) that directly lets dehazed images be restored from hazy or preprocessed hazy inputs without requiring the determination of atmospheric factors, such as air light and transmission maps. The FFA-Net architecture incorporates a Feature Attention (FA) method to do this task. We assess the proposed technique in a variety of circumstances, including visible frames, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and real-world hazy images. Evaluation criteria like entropy, correlation, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are used to compare the quality of dehazed frames or images to their hazy counterparts. Furthermore, histogram analysis and spectral entropy are adopted to determine the effectiveness of the proposed technique in comparison to existing dehazing techniques. Comparative results are presented for both real-world and simulated environments. The benefits of the proposed technique are demonstrated by a comparison of the results obtained from the standalone pre-trained FFA-Net and the proposed comprehensive methodology. Moreover, a thorough assessment is carried out for comparing the effectiveness of the proposed FFA-Net technique to those of some current dehazing techniques on real hazy images. T

Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been considered for its applications in diverse settings, such as intelligent urban environments, advanced manufacturing facilities, and environmental surveillance. However, significant obstacles exist in the implementation of these IoT solutions due to various issues, such as heterogeneity, diverse application requirements, restricted resources, and massive connectivity. To tackle these issues, merging satellite-based networks with conventional ground-based networks has been proposed as an effective and affordable option for enhancing IoT device connectivity.

Speech is a fundamental means of human interaction. Speaker Identification (SI) plays a crucial role in various applications, such as authentication systems, forensic investigation, and personal voice assistance. However, achieving robust and secure SI in both open and closed environments remains challenging. To address this issue, researchers have explored new techniques that enable computers to better understand and interact with humans. Smart systems leverage Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to mimic the human brain in identifying speakers. However, speech signals often suffer from interference, leading to signal degradation. The performance of a Speaker Identification System (SIS) is influenced by various environmental factors, such as noise and reverberation in open and closed environments, respectively. This research paper is concerned with the investigation of SI using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and polynomial coefficients, with an ANN serving as the classifier. To tackle the challenges posed by environmental interference, we propose a novel approach that depends on symmetric comb filters for modeling. In closed environments, we study the effect of reverberation on speech signals, as it occurs due to multiple reflections. To address this issue, we model the reverberation effect with comb filters. We explore different domains, including time, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), and Discrete Sine Transform (DST) domains for feature extraction to determine the best combination for SI in case of reverberation environments. Simulation results reveal that DWT outperforms other transforms, leading to a recognition rate of 93.75% at a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of 15 dB. Additionally, we investigate the concept of cancelable SI to ensure user privacy, while maintaining high recognition rates.
