technology is changing how students learn in the 21st century significantly. Integrating mobile devices in teaching, learning, and assessment processes has emerged as an important strategy for improving teaching methodologies and students' learning. However, adopting mobile devices presents several challenges, including understanding the students' performance, impact on time, and efficiency in the assessment process. This study explores this area with an empirical study of using mobile devices and compares the results to those using traditional desktop computers. In the educational environment, we investigated students' effective use while interacting with mobile and desktop versions of the Second Introductory programming summative assessment. Multinational/multi-institutional research involved a comparative analysis between two student groups undertaking identical tasks on mobile phones and desktop computers. Our results suggest that the students' results are not affected significantly by using the mobile version of the assessment application. These results highlight the usability of mobile devices as a flexible and effective tool for various educational applications, strengthening their role in the modern learning environment. © 2024 IEEE.

Support Vector Machine(SVM)has become one of the traditional machine learning algorithms the most used in prediction and classification ***,its behavior strongly depends on some parameters,making tuning these parameters a sensitive step to maintain a good *** the other hand,and as any other classifier,the performance of SVM is also affected by the input set of features used to build the learning model,which makes the selection of relevant features an important task not only to preserve a good classification accuracy but also to reduce the dimensionality of *** this paper,the MRFO+SVM algorithm is introduced by investigating the recent manta ray foraging optimizer to fine-tune the SVM parameters and identify the optimal feature subset *** proposed approach is validated and compared with four SVM-based algorithms over eight benchmarking ***,it is applied to a disease Covid-19 *** experimental results show the high ability of the proposed algorithm to find the appropriate SVM’s parameters,and its acceptable performance to deal with feature selection problem.

The annotation of medical images for the purpose of segmentation demands a high level of expertise and experience, and the generation of suitable datasets represents a significant challenge. In this study, we propose a method that facilitates annotation on a whole slide image (WSI) without requiring detailed specification of the lesion area. The objective is to enable annotation without the need for specialised knowledge. In particular, the WSI is divided into smaller regions for annotation purposes, with the proportion of lesions in each region being compared with reference images of similar regions, for which the proportion of lesions is known. The proportion of lesions in the reference small region image deemed to be most analogous is then designated as the annotation. The outcomes of an annotation experiment on multiple subjects based on this approach indicated that as the level of experience of the annotator increased, the variability in the accuracy rate diminished. This suggests that the annotators had acquired knowledge and skills through the process of annotation. © 2024 IEEE.

Mutual character dialogue generation with semi-supervised multitask learners and awareness

Consistent efforts have been ongoing to improve the friendliness and reliability of informal dialogue systems. However, most research focuses solely on mimicking human-like answers. Therefore, the interlocutors’ awareness features of the dialogue system are left unexplored. Meanwhile, cognitive science research reveals that awareness is a crucial indicator of an effective, high-quality informal conversation. This research aims to boost the quality of the conversational generation system by factoring in awareness of the interlocutors in the design and training of the dialogue system model. The Generative Pre-Trained Transformer-2 (GPT-2) model was implemented into the Persona Perception (P²) Bot to achieve the objectives of this study. This was to precisely develop model's understanding, P² Bot was implemented using a transmitter–receiver-based structure. The P² Bot leverages mutual persona awareness to improve the quality of customized dialogue generation. GPT-2 is a 1.5B parameter transformer model that produces state-of-the-art accuracy in a zero-shot setting on seven of the eight evaluated language modeling datasets. The observations of the proposed model on a sizable open-source dataset, PERSONA-CHAT, proved successful, with improvement above the state-of-the-art baselines in both automatic measures and human assessments. The model has achieved 82.2% accuracy on Hits@1 performance metrics in the original data and 68.8% on the revised data. On the human evaluation, the model scored an average of 2.66, pointing out that the responses provided were coherent and informative. A dialogue generation model with character and awareness which can communicate like an informative human expert was introduced. Despite achieving remarkable performance, Federated Learning (FL) encounters two important problems, i.e., low training efficiency and limited computational resources. In this article, we propose a new FL framework, i.e., FedDUMAP, with three original contributions, to leverage the shared insensitive data on the server in addition to the distributed data in edge devices so as to efficiently train a global model. First, we propose a simple dynamic server update algorithm, which takes advantage of the shared insensitive data on the server while dynamically adjusting the update steps on the server in order to speed up the convergence and improve the accuracy. Second, we propose an adaptive optimization method with the dynamic server update algorithm to exploit the global momentum on the server and each local device for superior accuracy. Third, we develop a layer-adaptive model pruning method to carry out specific pruning operations, which is adapted to the diverse features of each layer so as to attain an excellent tradeoff between effectiveness and efficiency. Our proposed FL model, FedDUMAP, combines the three original techniques and has a significantly better performance compared with baseline approaches in terms of efficiency (up to 16.9 times faster), accuracy (up to 20.4% higher), and computational cost (up to 62.6% smaller). © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Security, heterogeneity, and interoperability are the prominent concerns in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with restricted amounts of resources such as energy, transmission range, and processing of packets. Moreover, secured and trusted communication among WSNs is required to enhance network lifetime and security, thereby reducing energy consumption in the network. Thus, the given paper presents an ontological-based trust aware hybrid key management scheme (OTAHKMS) for WSNs. The proposed approach is a two-fold approach, where the first phase involves the encryption process for maintaining data confidentiality and integrity, while the second phase involves the use of ontology for capturing trust relationships and representing contextual information among several nodes in the network. The performance of the proposed trusted approach is validated and compared with existing cited works based on evaluation metrics such as communication trust value (CTV), network throughput (NT), packet delivery ratio (PDR), and energy consumption (EC). The results show that the proposed ontological-based trusted approach efficiently outperforms existing protocols, thereby enhancing network lifetime and energy usage in WSNs. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

Brain tumors pose a significant medical challenge, necessitating precise and rapid diagnosis for effective treatment and improved patient outcomes. This paper introduces knowledge distillation, which has the potential to revolutionize brain tumor diagnosis by enabling early identification from medical imaging data. Using a sophisticated teacher' model to capture intricate patterns, we distill this knowledge into a more efficient "student' model, aiming for comparable accuracy with reduced memory usage and improved inference times. Our method, based on a dataset of 357 MRI scans, demonstrated the potential of knowledge distillation in brain tumor diagnosis, offering a promising avenue for advancing patient care. The proposed model serves as a vital tool for healthcare practitioners, providing accurate and efficient support in detecting brain tumors and contributing to advancements in healthcare technology. The evaluation results indicate the effectiveness of our technique, achieving an impressive accuracy of 98.10 © 2024 IEEE.

Wheat is the most important cereal crop,and its low production incurs import pressure on the *** fulfills a significant portion of the daily energy requirements of the human *** wheat disease is one of the major factors that result in low production and negatively affects the national ***,timely detection of wheat diseases is necessary for improving *** CNN-based architectures showed tremendous achievement in the image-based classification and prediction of crop ***,these models are computationally expensive and need a large amount of training *** this research,a light weighted modified CNN architecture is proposed that uses eight layers particularly,three convolutional layers,three SoftMax layers,and two flattened layers,to detect wheat diseases *** high-resolution images were collected from the fields in Azad Kashmir(Pakistan)and manually annotated by three human *** convolutional layers use 16,32,and 64 *** filter uses a 3×3 kernel *** strides for all convolutional layers are set to *** this research,three different variants of datasets are *** variants S1-70%:15%:15%,S2-75%:15%:10%,and S3-80%:10%:10%(train:validation:test)are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed *** extensive experiments revealed that the S3 performed better than S1 and S2 datasets with 93%*** experiment also concludes that a more extensive training set with high-resolution images can detect wheat diseases more accurately.

The current paper proposes a new approach for peripheral speech emotion analysis and gender estimation incorporating the best machine learning architectures such as CNNs and LSTMs. Its correct depiction of emotions and the variation of the gendered speech to indicate manifold signal-to-noise ratio make the approach accommodate the difficulty inherent in recognizing emotions from the recording of voices as well as predicting the gender of a speaker. It is then able to ally with preprocessing and collection of a vast range of different speech samples, feature extraction of pitch, tone and spectral data. These features serve as input to the CNNs and LSTMs: LSTMs work well at temporal regular features and the CNNs work well in feature extraction by location (spatio feature). The approach is tested on the RAVDESS and IEMOCAP datasets and establishes a near perfect match to prior approaches with reference to recognition accuracy of emotion analysis and gender prediction. Thus, applying the identified dual method approach, which could be described by such characteristics as highly accurate data pre-preprocessing, clear indication of the features of interest, a different CNN-LSTM model joint training, it offers a reasonably good platform to gain certain insights into such characteristics of the speech as our experiment demonstrates. This work offers satisfactory configurations on concerns such as human computer relation, customer relation and mental health surveillance to suggest that other applications could be achieved in future. © 2025 IEEE.
