This paper presents a system to implement a process monitoring and control system on FPGA in order to replace PLC's from any industrial environment. The system implemented contains slave nodes being monitored and controlled through a single master node connected to a PC. This enables the centralized control of any industrial environment with plants distributed on considerable distances. The master FPGA is implemented in order to reduce the load from the PC as it collects the data from all the slaves over a wireless link. Wireless links provide possibility of long distance control. It can be a simple RF transceivers or a GSM modem. The slave FPGA collects data from different sensors and processes them in order to calculate the desired actuator response to control the respective parameters. These limits, with in which the parameters are to be limited, are sent on the wireless link from the master to individual Slave and gets updated using the GUI on the PC. The advantage of using FPGA is that they can be programmed in system without the need of detaching it from the system. This feature gives an advantage over a PLC which requires disconnection from the system when the internal programming needs to be changed. The only disadvantage was that the separate power switching circuits were designed for power switching. It is observed that the control and monitoring was possible in real time due to high data rate and the values were controlled well within the limits defined by the user.

One of the most important components of attitude determination system for small satellite is sun sensor. In this paper design, development and calibration of 2-axis digital sun sensor using linear Photodiodes array is presented. Senor design comprises two linear arrays mounted orthogonally to provide Sun aspect angle in two axes. The Sun aspect angle is determined by the centroid based technique and implemented using FPGA. The proposed centroid algorithm is capable of obtaining the position of the centroid to an accuracy of sub pixel level which is desirable in such designs. A method of calibration using natural sun light is also presented. Commercial grade components were used which have resulted in development of low cost, light weight and power efficient sensor.

Transportation encompasses a broad set of policy variables, and the planning and development of transportation facilities generally raises living standards and enhances the aggregate of community values. For the efficient planning of infrastructure and the constituent facilities, road traffic accidents has its own significance and demanding validity. Outputs from the system include the movement of people and traffic modes, improvement and deterioration of the physical environment as well. In contrast to all these factors, crash prevention is indirectly linked with the time of the occurrence or related incident. This corresponds to the spatial organization, circulation, visual properties, resources and symbolic *** paper focuses on road traffic accidents of Karachi, Pakistan involving various types of road users in different timings of the day (24 hrs). Possible root causes with significant recommended measures is the extensive dimension of this research study. Deliberate number of crash implications perceived by the application of ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) in the comparative analysis of three years data record. It is quite evident from the analytical data record that rate of severity is directly linked with the increase in insufficient illumination during dusk and dark timings. The positive progressive impact of time on traffic accidents is probably one of the important dimensions that will control the magnitude of the casualties.

Non adaptive mechanical ventilation could be optimized by analyzing ventilation inhomogeneity in lungs using different methods. Mechanical ventilator could be equipped with adaptive characteristics by delivering feedback according to patient lung conditions. In this study, various statistical analysis techniques are employed on lung images acquired by Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) in order to characterize degree of inhomogeneity in severely ill patients, being treated on ventilators. The statistical methods employed include Jackknife, bootstrap and self consistency test. Since acquired lung images have random variation, Jackknifing is critical in drawing robust conclusions about inhomogeneous distribution of ventilation. As relative impedance values in EIT images are directly acquired from patient (free distribution), Bootstrap method delivered vigorous results about sampling distribution of relative impedance data. Self consistency test results compute degree of inhomogeneity not only between healthy and diseased lungs but also among diseased lung regions of single patient. Standalone application software tool is developed with above methods as background algorithm to facilitate researchers and engineers to optimize non-adaptive mechanical ventilation. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

This paper focuses on stability of under-actuated two-link robot implemented over network control Systems. The proposed control system stabilizes and balances the robot in erect position. This paper differentiates synchronous and asynchronous actuation. Smith predictor has been used to handle dead time and control closed loop over asynchronous actuation. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

In recent days it is necessary to maintain continuous surveillance of underwater transmission lines or oil pipelines. For such purpose, we require an underwater vehicle rover capable of tracking these wires or pipelines and detect the fault if it occurs. For this purpose we have designed an intelligent quad leg rover. Image processing as a key deployed for tracking and tracing the fault or damage. Hough's Transformation is used for the detection of the wire, and threshold levels were also set of the underwater environment for vehicle to focus only on wire. For tracking the transmission lines and proper navigation, we have used a masking technique. The system is implemented on Raspberry pi (Broadcom BC2835) as well as Intel Core Processor T7250 to improve and analyze the performance in terms of size and mobility. The results presented in this paper are simulated on Intel T7250 processor and on raspberry pi. It helps in evaluating the response time of the raspberry pi when compared to any other processors in terms of computation and robustness.

Object Tracking based on Active Contour Modeling is an image processing based technology that uses snapshots of the object under consideration to track it via robot in the real world. The objective has been to implement a unique methodology that employs the pursuing and adapting of contour to the current state of image, and hence track the object. The system can be implemented in drone planes wherein this algorithm can be used to guide the movement of the gun based on the movements of the object, or, in robot games with a slightly more advanced robot. Initially Image Processing is performed to reduce operation complexity and achieve swift real-time performance. A set of contour-based modeling algorithms is then implemented to `actively' track the subject. Also, relative transformation calculations are made to lock the target via robot, continuously. MATLAB is used to simulate and implement the system and it is tested on field with a ball placed on it and a robot tracking the ball. The experiments prove that the system successfully detects and tracks the object efficiently in the real world for all horizontal and vertical transitions.

This communication attempts to analyze Karachi coastal area(Paradise Point 24.84 o E, 66.77 o N)) for an understanding of underlying probability distribution. It has been found that at this site the annual wind speed at a height of 30 meters remains very close to 7 m/s whereas at a height of 61 meters the wind speed reaches to 9 m/s. Moreover, the wind mostly remains directed towards southwest. Furthermore, the annual average wind speed follows Weibull distribution and the annual average wind speed goes on increasing with the passage of time. Maximum energy together with the energy density for different values of the wind mill blade diameters is also calculated. Our analysis shows that the wind speed is increasing as a consequence of global climate change. Though the global climate change has created many threats to the humanity by influencing the local urban microclimate but the positive aspect of this finding is that the increase in wind speed will increase the feasibility and economic viability of the construction of wind farms near Karachi coast and offshore. Of course these calculations will be useful for urban and energy planners.

Since Solar Flares are associated with the *** flares have different length,duration and peakness in different intervals as sunspots *** Solar Flares index data starting from 1966 to2008(Monthly Flare Index Cycles "20,21,22,23") in both North and South hemisphere separately along with total Solar Flares *** paper compared the North,South and total hemispheric Solar Flares data in perspective of probability distributions such as Gamma,Log-Gamma and Chi-square which tested by Kolmogrove-Smirnov D-test and then their persistency by using fractal *** we estimate the Hurst exponent with the help of fractal *** dimension shows complex of the data while Hurst exponent represents smoothness of the *** the tested probability distributions in this paper show persistency and positively *** use of probability distributions allows to represents the uncertainties in the solar flares *** study will be helpful to verify the long term smoothness of data trends and conclude the results will be present so forecast values will be more accurate.

On the contribution of power variance in PAPR reduction for OFDM signals

In various literatures, it has been argued that the power variance (PV) can be used as a sound model of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) for decisions aimed at reducing the power of the transmitted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. Hence, it has been argued in the past that the PV is a good measure when it comes to power efficiency of OFDM signals. We argue that this may not be always true and that the PV-based power reduction may give misleading results in efforts aimed at PAPR reduction. We support our argument using simulation results. Furthermore, we show that the PV-based comparison in selected mapping reduction technique gives a degraded PAPR performance compared to the actual PAPR-based comparison.
