IndusMarker is an automated short-answer marking system based on structure-editing and structure-matching rather than extensive use of linguistic features analysis. Since IndusMarker cannot guarantee 100% human-system agreement rate, the use of IndusMarker has therefore been limited to conducting practice tests. It was expected that such a use of IndusMarker will lead to improvements in student learning and instructor-student interactions. The main aim of this paper is to verify these claims. The results indicate that such a use of IndusMarker leads to improvements in both student learning and instructor-student interactions. In addition, IndusMarker is also shown to give reasonably high human-system agreement rates even after the removal of all linguistic analysis features from the software.

Discharge Summaries contains vocabulary that is difficult to understand for consumers. We used semantic annotation in SemLink to dynamically generate synonyms and hyperlinks to appropriate Internet resources for difficult terms in discharge summary text to make the text more comprehensible to consumers. This paper describes our semantic annotation approach and evaluates our automatic hyperlink generation algorithm in terms of success in locating web pages to hyperlink for difficult terms in the Clinical Management sections of a corpus of 200 discharge summary texts. The system achieved 95% success in hyperlinking topically relevant web resources to the difficult terms;83% of the hyperlinks could be restricted to resources of reading grade-level 8 or less with no reduction in relevance. In the context of discharge summaries we find automated hyperlinking to provide a good level of performance in leveraging openly available resources to aid consumer interpretation of difficult terms.

this research paper will set out to explore the degree to which the practice of ISO 9001:2000 is used in Searle Pakistan limited in developing quality products that meets the customer requirement. The paper focuses on developing the understanding the operation and effectiveness of quality management systems and why companies are also committed to the needs of ISO9001:2000. A survey was conducted on Searle Pakistan limited registered with ISO 9001:2000 to evaluate the head office unit and factory units of the company to know how effective ISO9001:2000 standard to meet customer requirement which enhance to customer satisfaction. Vehicle detection and classification of vehicles play an important role in decision making for the purpose of traffic control and management. We propose a novel and efficient algorithm based on image processing using vertically positioned camera for vehicle detection and classification according to their size. The algorithm is based on different techniques including image differencing, thresholding, edge detection and binary morphological process. Experiments are carried out over a wide range of vehicles, road segments and camera positions. A success rate of around 85% is achieved in both vehicle detection and classification. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, the proposed methodology calculates the distance between two nodes in Wireless Sensor Network for localization purpose. The methodology is a variant of Time of Arrival (TOA) methodology. The simulations are done in Matlab using Ultra wide band spectrum and Gaussian monocycle pulses. The measured distances are compared with set distances and mean square errors are calculated. Finally, the set distance and measured distances are compared for various transmission frequencies within UWB spectrum. © 2012 IEEE.

Advancement in computer system hardware makes it difficult to meet the demands of teaching computer architecture and organization. Visualization of different architectures enhances the learning process among students by using simulators. This paper attempts to give a survey on the following simulators (1) Electrical Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) was the first electronic digital universal computer built at Pennsylvania university in 1944-1946., (2) The Visible Virtual Machine (VVM) based on Little Man Computer (LMC) which is general for von Newmann computer architecture, (3) MARS an Education-Oriented MIPS Assembly Language Simulator, (4) Logisim for simulating digital logic circuits and (5) SPIM for MIPS Assembly Language Simulator that are going to be taught in the course Computer Architecture and Organization by the faculty members. Also, evaluate the selected simulators according to the criteria established in the course meetings. © 2012 IEEE.

The energy consumed in cluster head (CH) selection phase of a random cluster based wireless sensor network (WSN) has been assumed as an insignificant factor in the previous research works. In this paper, the consumption of energy during the transmission of data from sensor nodes to the sink has been calculated. Through extensive simulations it has been shown that 20% of the network's total consumed energy is exhausted in the random CH selection phase only. This energy consumption can be taken as an overhead energy. To overcome the overhead energy, an energy efficient Round Rotation (RR) mechanism has been proposed. By implementing the RR mechanism with random CH selection phase, the over head energy has been reduced to 4% of the total network energy consumed in data transmissions. This has consequently affected the network lifetime which has been augmented by 20%. Keywords-WSN;CH selection phase;overhead energy;efficient energy;Round Rotation method. © 2012 IEEE.

Rather making a comprehensive simulator that can cater the requirement for the course, freely available simulators can serve the purpose as they can save time resource, ease of use, capacity to learn the concepts to fullest, can be accessed anywhere and anytime by the students. Finding the appropriate simulator for the course is a difficult task. This paper discusses about the simulators that can be used for the course Computer Architecture and Organization which can help instructors in making students able to grasp the knowledge delivered in lectures. An Intensive Care Unit (ICU) consists of patient bedsides which are equipped with a set of sensors to monitor the condition of the patient. These sensors nodes periodically send the patients' vital signs data to the central monitoring system for storing, analysis and emergency treatment requirements. The medical staff uses this data to ascertain the condition of the patient and to provide necessary medications, in case of abnormality. In this paper a design of Controller Area Network (CAN) based ICU monitoring system is presented. CAN provides high speed and reliable transmission of distributed sensor networks data. The key feature in this design is the proposed aggregation scheme which is adopted to effectively utilize the bandwidth and decrease bus load in order to accommodate more number of patients within the existing network. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.

Clean drinking water is the basic necessity for every human being, but about 1.1 billion people in the world lacked proper drinking water. There are many different types of water purification processes such as filtration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet radiation, carbon absorption, but the most reliable processes are distillation and boiling. Water purification, such as distillation, is especially important in regions where water resources or tap water is not suitable for ingesting without boiling or chemical treatment. In design project It treats the water by combining different methods such as Filtration, Distillation and a technique called concentrated solar power (CSP). Distillation is literally the method seen in nature, whereby: the sun heats the water on the earth's surface, the water is turned into a vapor (evaporation) and rises, leaving contaminants behind, to form clouds. As the upper atmosphere drops in temperature the vapors cool and convert back to water to form water. In this project distillation is achieved by using a parabolic mirror which boils water at high temperature. Filtration is done by sand filter and carbon filter. First sand filter catches the sand particles and the carbon filter which has granules of active carbon is used to remove odor dissolved gases from water. This is the Pre-treatment of water. The filtered water is then collected in a water container at a focus of parabolic mirror where distillation process is done. Another important feature of designed project is the solar tracking of a parabolic mirror which increases the efficiency of a parabolic mirror [1],[2].
