IndusMarker is an automated short-answer marking system based on structure-editing and structure-matching rather than extensive use of linguistic features analysis. Since IndusMarker cannot guarantee 100% human-system agreement rate, the use of IndusMarker has therefore been limited to conducting practice tests. It was expected that such a use of IndusMarker will lead to improvements in student learning and instructor-student interactions. The main aim of this paper is to verify these claims. The results indicate that such a use of IndusMarker leads to improvements in both student learning and instructor-student interactions. In addition, IndusMarker is also shown to give reasonably high human-system agreement rates even after the removal of all linguistic analysis features from the software.

Discharge Summaries contains vocabulary that is difficult to understand for consumers. We used semantic annotation in SemLink to dynamically generate synonyms and hyperlinks to appropriate Internet resources for difficult terms in discharge summary text to make the text more comprehensible to consumers. This paper describes our semantic annotation approach and evaluates our automatic hyperlink generation algorithm in terms of success in locating web pages to hyperlink for difficult terms in the Clinical Management sections of a corpus of 200 discharge summary texts. The system achieved 95% success in hyperlinking topically relevant web resources to the difficult terms;83% of the hyperlinks could be restricted to resources of reading grade-level 8 or less with no reduction in relevance. In the context of discharge summaries we find automated hyperlinking to provide a good level of performance in leveraging openly available resources to aid consumer interpretation of difficult terms.

Clean drinking water is the basic necessity for every human being, but about 1.1 billion people in the world lacked proper drinking water. There are many different types of water purification processes such as filtration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet radiation, carbon absorption, but the most reliable processes are distillation and boiling. Water purification, such as distillation, is especially important in regions where water resources or tap water is not suitable for ingesting without boiling or chemical treatment. In design project It treats the water by combining different methods such as Filtration, Distillation and a technique called concentrated solar power (CSP). Distillation is literally the method seen in nature, whereby: the sun heats the water on the earth's surface, the water is turned into a vapor (evaporation) and rises, leaving contaminants behind, to form clouds. As the upper atmosphere drops in temperature the vapors cool and convert back to water to form water. In this project distillation is achieved by using a parabolic mirror which boils water at high temperature. Filtration is done by sand filter and carbon filter. First sand filter catches the sand particles and the carbon filter which has granules of active carbon is used to remove odor dissolved gases from water. This is the Pre-treatment of water. The filtered water is then collected in a water container at a focus of parabolic mirror where distillation process is done. Another important feature of designed project is the solar tracking of a parabolic mirror which increases the efficiency of a parabolic mirror [1],[2].
