The increasing adoption of IoT devices in healthcare necessitates the development of lightweight and fast intrusion detection systems (IDS). This paper proposes a weighted ensemble ML IDS with parallelized batch learning to optimize runtime while maintaining ML performance. The proposed method is compared to other solutions, evaluating ML performance and runtime across three different datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that although batch learning introduces feedback delay that slightly degrades ML performance, parallel computing significantly reduces runtime. © 2024 IEEE.

The field of adversarial textual attack has significantly grown over the past few years, where the commonly considered objective is to craft adversarial examples (AEs) that can successfully fool the target model. However, the imperceptibility of attacks, which is also essential for practical attackers, is often left out by previous studies. In consequence, the crafted AEs tend to have obvious structural and semantic differences from the original human-written text, making them easily perceptible. In this work, we advocate leveraging multi-objectivization to address such an issue. Specifically, we reformulate the problem of crafting AEs as a multi-objective optimization problem, where the attack imperceptibility is considered as an auxiliary objective. Then, we propose a simple yet effective evolutionary algorithm, dubbed HydraText, to solve this problem. HydraText can be effectively applied to both score-based and decision-based attack settings. Exhaustive experiments involving 44,237 instances demonstrate that HydraText consistently achieves competitive attack success rates and better attack imperceptibility than the recently proposed attack approaches. A human evaluation study also shows that the AEs crafted by HydraText are more indistinguishable from human-written text. Finally, these AEs exhibit good transferability and can bring notable robustness improvement to the target model by adversarial training. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The development of IOT smart devices has necessitated increasingly stringent requirements for DC power sources in terms of output voltage, size, and cost. For instance, Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs), utilized as photodetectors, require a significantly high reverse bias voltage during the detection of feeble optical signals to achieve optimal gain and high signal-to-noise ratio, thereby ensuring exceptional sensitivity. To address the diverse demands of various smart devices for DC power, a high-output DC/DC boost circuit without a step-up transformer has been innovatively designed. This circuit is comprised of four fundamental components: an oscillator circuit, a comparator circuit, a voltage multiplier circuit, and a constant-current and voltage-stabilizing circuit. The paper conducts a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the circuit's topology, parameter selection, and operational process, which is further validated through Multisim simulation. Additionally, a PCB circuit was designed, fabricated, and underwent rigorous practical testing. The test results conclusively demonstrate that the designed boost circuit proficiently provides APDs with the appropriate bias voltage, eliminating the need for boost transformer. It boasts high output voltage, a simplistic structure, small size, and low cost, enabling it to seamlessly share the same input power source with the APD detection circuit and be integrated into the same PCB layout.

Architecture Analysis and Benchmarking of 3D U-shaped Deep Learning Models for Thoracic Anatomical Segmentation

Recent rising interests in patient-specific thoracic surgical planning and simulation require efficient and robust creation of digital anatomical models from automatic medical image segmentation algorithms. Deep learning (DL) is now state-of-the-art in various radiological tasks, and U-shaped DL models have particularly excelled in medical image segmentation since the inception of the 2D UNet. To date, many variants of U-shaped models have been proposed by the integration of different attention mechanisms and network configurations. Systematic benchmark studies which analyze the architecture of these models by leveraging the recent development of the multi-label databases, can provide valuable insights for clinical deployment and future model designs, but such studies are still rare. We conduct the first systematic benchmark study for variants of 3D U-shaped models (3DUNet, STUNet, AttentionUNet, SwinUNETR, FocalSegNet, and a novel 3D SwinUnet with four variants) with a focus on CT-based anatomical segmentation for thoracic surgery. Our study systematically examines the impact of different attention mechanisms, the number of resolution stages, and network configurations on segmentation accuracy and computational complexity. To allow cross-reference with other recent benchmarking studies, we also included a performance assessment of the BTCV abdominal structural segmentation. With the STUNet ranking at the top, our study demonstrated the value of CNN-based U-shaped models for the investigated tasks and the benefit of residual blocks in network configuration designs to boost segmentation performance. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

In cases of frequent problem-solving of multiobjective optimization tasks from a domain due to changing conditions or problem features, a growing number of individual tasks will be solved and stored in a database, providing an opportunity for a target task at hand to achieve better optimization performance through knowledge transfer from the previously-solved tasks, which is also known as sequential transfer optimization. Despite a variety of transfer algorithms that have been developed over the years, the research on the design of benchmark problems for evaluating such algorithms received far less attention. Oftentimes, the source and target tasks in existing test problems are manually assembled or extended from specific practical problems, limiting their ability to represent the diverse yet complex source-target similarity relationships in real-world problems. In light of this, we propose design methods to generate multiobjective sequential transfer optimization problems (MSTOPs) systematically in this work, wherein the Pareto manifolds of individual tasks and the manifold-based similarity between the tasks can be customized with ease, enabling a broad spectrum of representation of the diverse similarity relationships between the source-target Pareto manifolds of MSTOPs. Lastly, a benchmark suite with 12 test problems is developed using the proposed methods, which would serve as an arena for electing superior multiobjective sequential transfer optimization algorithms. We propose overcoming the memory capacity limitation of GPUs with high-capacity Storage-Class Memory (SCM) and DRAM cache. By significantly increasing the memory capacity with SCM, the GPU can capture a larger fraction of the memory footprint than HBM for workloads that mandate memory oversubscription, resulting in substantial speedups. However, the DRAM cache needs to be carefully designed to address the latency and bandwidth limitations of the SCM while minimizing cost overhead and considering GPU's characteristics. Because the massive number of GPU threads can easily thrash the DRAM cache and degrade performance, we first propose an SCM-aware DRAM cache bypass policy for GPUs that considers the multi-dimensional characteristics of memory accesses by G PU s with SCM to bypass DRAM for data with low performance utility. In addition, to reduce DRAM cache probe traffic and increase effective DRAM BW with minimal cost overhead, we propose a Configurable Tag Cache (CTC) that repurposes part of the L2 cache to cache DRAM cacheline tags. The L2 capacity used for the CTC can be adjusted by users for adaptability. Furthermore, to minimize DRAM cache probe traffic from CTC misses, our Aggregated Metadata-In-Last-column (AMIL) DRAM cache organization co-locates all DRAM cacheline tags in a single column within a row. The AMIL also retains the full ECC protection, unlike prior DRAM cache implementation with Tag-And-Data (TAD) organization. Additionally, we propose SCM throttling to curtail power consumption and exploiting SCM's SLC/MLC modes to adapt to workload's memory footprint. While our techniques can be used for different DRAM and SCM devices, we focus on a Heterogeneous Memory Stack (HMS) organization that stacks SCM dies on top of DRAM dies for high performance. Compared to HBM, the HMS improves performance by up to 12.5× (2.9× overall) and reduces energy by up to 89.3% (48.1 % overall). The intellectual and immense attainment of a smart city and auto-mobile vehicles are gradually growing. This growth drives Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET), a broadly operated complex network for inter-vehicular transmission to acquire information relevant to the vehicle location, road condition, traffic congestion, and speed. Generally, this information is procured through an open-source communication, which is susceptible to various security threats. In broad terms, the privacy of data in VANET is considered an imperative task. In this regard, many authentication protocols are formerly initiated for VANET. Most of these protocols are precarious owing to eavesdropping, replay, and impersonation attacks, etc. Furthermore, most existing protocols operates on enormous communication and computation rate, which turns them inadequate for VANET. This paper exhibits a lightweight privacy-preserving authentication protocol for n number of vehicles in VANET using the physical unclonable function (PUF) technique, and offers efficient and secure communication via public channels. Moreover, we evaluate our protocol formally and informally, showing that it is scalable, lightweight, and safe compared to formerly protocols. The rate of computation and communication is less than most related protocols. We also simulate the proposed scheme using the NS-3 simulator to measure its various network performance parameters. As a result, it is apparent through the beheld statistics that the presented protocol is beyond practical, efficient, and reliable for the secure dissemination of information in VANET. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Robustness of LiDAR-Based Pose Estimation: Evaluating and Improving Odometry and Localization Under Common Point Cloud Corruptions

Accurate and reliable pose estimation, i.e., determining the precise position and orientation of autonomous robots and vehicles, is critical for tasks like navigation and mapping. LiDAR is a widely used sensor for pose estimation, with odometry and localization being two primary tasks. LiDAR odometry estimates the relative motion between consecutive scans, while LiDAR localization aligns real-time scans with a pre-recorded map to obtain a global pose. Although they have different objectives and application scenarios, both rely on point cloud registration as the underlying technique and face shared challenges of data corruption caused by adverse conditions (e.g., rain). While state-of-the-art (SOTA) pose estimation systems achieved high accuracy on clean data, their robustness to corrupted data remains unclear. In this work, we propose a framework to systematically evaluate five SOTA LiDAR pose estimation systems across 18 synthetic real-world point cloud corruptions. Our experiments reveal that odometry systems degrade significantly under specific corruptions, with relative position errors increasing from 0.5% to more than 80%, while localization systems remain highly robust. We further demonstrate that denoising techniques can effectively mitigate the adverse effects of noise-induced corruptions, and re-training learning-based systems with corrupted data significantly enhances the robustness against various corruption types. © 2024, CC BY.

This research aims to produce a practical Visual Novel Game learning media. This research is development research with the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method, including 4 stages, namely concept, design, material collection, manufacture, testing, and distribution. The subjects in this study were elementary school students, dance teachers, and songwriters with a purposive sampling technique. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire sheet. The analysis technique uses quantitative descriptive statistics and percentages. The results of testing the functionality of the application from black box testing show the results of the Visual Novel Game learning media are appropriate. The last test on the black box using the User Acceptance Test (UAT) shows the user satisfaction with Visual Novel Game learning media with very good results. The application feasibility results show very good with a percentage of 87.76% and the usability of the application shows very good with a percentage of 90.03%. The visual novel educational game adds insight into the typical dances of Lombok Island with a score of 92%, helps students understand the meaning of the Beriuk Tinjal dance with a score of 92%, and makes learning easy and fun with a score of 92%. © 2023 IEEE.
