Gliomas hold a prominent position in neurooncology due to their high malignancy and poor survival rates. Accurately predicting the prognosis and survival risk of glioma patients is crucial for clinical treatment. Recent advances in survival prediction methods emphasize the importance of integrating complementary information from diverse modalities while neglecting the significant modality gap between pathological images and genomic data. To address this issue, we propose a modality-specific knowledge interaction network (MSKI-Net), which integrates whole slide images (WSI), RNA-Seq gene expression data, and copy number variation (CNV) data for glioma survival analysis. The MSKI-Net consists of a modality-specific feature enhancement (MSFE) module, a modality-interactive cross-attention (MICA) module, and a modality-specific knowledge-guided representation learning (MSKR) module. The three modules collaborate by complementing modality-specific features with modality-agnostic knowledge to improve the learning capability of MSKI-Net. Furthermore, we construct a dataset named TCGA mm , which combines WSI, RNA-Seq, and CNV data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to address the issue of data scarcity. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MSKI-Net achieves superior performance in predicting the survival risk of glioma cancer.

Universally, scene text in natural images is an expressive means of communication. Texts available in an image could provide important information which can enhance the interpretation of the image, for instance texts on product packages and road signs. Recently, scene texts detection has been recognized as an important research field in computer vision. However, texts detection in natural scene images has been challenging due to the complicated scene background involving varying fonts, sizes, image resolutions etc. As to date, different methods of detecting texts in natural scene images have been proposed for horizontal texts, arbitrarily-oriented texts and curved texts, but there is a lack of detection of vertically-oriented texts in the natural scene images. Hence, this research proposed a framework for detecting the top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top and horizontally-stacked vertical texts in natural scene images. In this paper, Multi-directional Text Detector (MTD) is modelled and developed to locate the vertically-oriented texts in natural scene images, and the Vertical Scene Texts Dataset-700 (VSTD-700) is developed. The preliminary testing shows that the success rate of detection of MTD is 87% on ICDAR 2013, 73% on ICDAR 2015, 71% on MSRA-TD500 and 87% on VSTD-700 datasets. Hence, the results showed that MTD is able to detect vertically-oriented texts on top of the horizontally-oriented and arbitrarily-oriented texts in natural scene images simultaneously. © 2020 ACM.

Various deep learning techniques have been employed to diagnose dental caries using X-ray images. In this study, we utilized deep learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning models such as Visual Geometry Group (VGG16), VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3, to identify dental caries in periapical radiographs. The traditional CNN model comprises three sets of 2D convolutional layers, followed by an activation layer, a max-pooling layer, a flatten layer, one dense layer, another activation layer, dropout, another dense layer, and a final activation layer. For the VGG models, ResNet50, and Inception V3, the top convolutional layers were frozen to prevent retraining of the model, with only the last layers trained to produce the required output. The accuracy achieved by CNN, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, and Inception V3 was 90%, 96%, 73%, 70%, and 73%, respectively. VGG16 exhibited the highest accuracy among the models. Hyperparameters were carefully selected using a grid search approach, and the results were validated using the Shuffle-Split-Cross (SSC) validation method. These findings underscore the effectiveness of transfer learning in analyzing medical images, particularly in the diagnosis of dental caries. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Air pollution is a common matter nowadays. It’s defined as contamination of physical, biological, or chemical alteration in the air which results in harmful effects on living objects and makes it difficult for them to survive. The prominent cause of air pollution is the discharge of injurious gases from industrial waste and the use of fossil fuels. The effects of air pollution are very severe climate change, soil erosion, different diseases, and many more thus it’s very important to take proper note of air superiority as long-term effects of air pollution can result in heart diseases, lung cancer, etc. We have devised a system to measure the contamination level of air through sensors base hardware which sends the data directly to the associated server making it easier to read even on mobile "through a software application. The sensors would be plotted in different routes and locations i.e., industrial region, traffic zone, etc." to investigate the pollution stages of the air making it easier for the user to take a safer route. One of the important usages of the system is to give information about the low contaminated areas near roads and industrial areas so that they can be safeguarded through certain measures.

Federated learning is a distributed learning solution that achieves high-quality machine learning models while ensuring privacy and collaboration among various end devices. However, different kinds of end devices can lead to an unstable training process due to limited and dynamic communication and computation resources. Federated Dropout is an important technique for mitigating such resource bottlenecks by randomly removing a fixed percentage of activations of model components. However, most of the existing FL dropout methods cannot effectively utilize the distinguished characteristics of different clients or fail to automatically adapt to end device heterogeneity. In this paper, we thus propose Adaptive Federated Dropout with Reinforcement Learning (AFD-RL). AFD-RL employs reinforcement learning technology to adapt to the clients’ unbalanced computation and communication resources and provide a personalized dropout strategy for each client. By automatically selecting suitable model components for each client in each communication round, AFD-RL achieves better accuracy with fewer communication rounds. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in improving training efficiency and inference accuracy.

The diagnosis of interactions between two drugs is an essential procedure in drug development. Many medical tool's offer inclusive records related to DDI. However, this tool's results are not very satisfactory. The main aim is to propose an efficient approach based on pattern matching that identifies the interaction between two drugs. In this study, the goal is to collect the data from the DrugBank, which is a publicly available source. The drug-related data includes drug ID, drug names, and various kinds of sentences of drug-drug interaction. Drug names will be identified by drug names dictionary defined in the corpus, and sentences will be determined according to given patterns. These sentences will treat as input data, and preprocessing steps will perform in these sentences. Various types of features are selected for machine learning classification. Then all the attributes will be classified into desired classes. The proposed method gains 95.4% accuracy from the random forest classifier. © 2021 IEEE.

Breast cancer develops from breast tissue and leads to abnormally growing cells in the chest. Doctors usually look for tumors on a mammogram, and some mammograms contain abnormal macrocalcifications and microcalcifications when the image quality is very poor. The presence of these abnormal amounts of calcium deposits in the breast is a sign of early breast cancer and should never be ignored. The image quality should be of the highest quality for an accurate interpretation of this mammographic deposit. Proposed research work is ongoing, exploring other screening methods and the stages of breast cancer. Improved Adaptive Fuzzy C-Means (IAFCM), Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA), and TNM (The size of the breast tumour (T), adjacent lymph nodes and Metastasized methods are used which builds the proposed medical image processing systems into an efficient way. Modified Poisson Inverse Gradient, Metastasized classifier (MPIG) has been used for classification. More than 500 image modalities are involved in all of the approaches. Clinical practitioners who make decisions based on photographs are predicted to benefit from the findings of this study.

E3-UAV: An Edge-based Energy-Efficient Object Detection System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Motivated by the advances in deep learning techniques, the application of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based object detection has proliferated across a range of fields, including vehicle counting, fire detection, and city monitoring. While most existing research studies only a subset of the challenges inherent to UAV-based object detection, there are few studies that balance various aspects to design a practical system for energy consumption reduction. In response, we present the E3-UAV, an edge-based energyefficient object detection system for UAVs. The system is designed to dynamically support various UAV devices, edge devices, and detection algorithms, with the aim of minimizing energy consumption by deciding the most energy-efficient flight parameters (including flight altitude, flight speed, detection algorithm, and sampling rate) required to fulfill the detection requirements of the task. We first present an effective evaluation metric for actual tasks and construct a transparent energy consumption model based on hundreds of actual flight data to formalize the relationship between energy consumption and flight parameters. Then we present a lightweight energy-efficient priority decision algorithm based on a large quantity of actual flight data to assist the system in deciding flight parameters. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the system, and our experimental results demonstrate that it can significantly decrease energy consumption in real-world scenarios. Additionally, we provide four insights that can assist researchers and engineers in their efforts to study UAV-based object detection further. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Over the past two decades, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely applied into the diagnosis of knee joint diseases. Due to the complexity and diversity of MRI data, traditional feature extraction requires manual searching for features to segment meniscus, and the final segmentation results still need to be further filtered. Therefore, it is necessary to design a novel method to automatically extract features directly from images. In this study, we develop a framework to implement this goal by using a mask region-based convolution neural network (Mask R-CNN) without manual intervention. In order to highlight the proportion of meniscus, we first preprocess the original image data so that it is reduced to about 1/8 of the original size, and then input the preprocessed image data into the trained Mask R-CNN. Afterwards, transfer learning is used to generate the weight of our network. By testing 1000 images, the mean intersection over union (IOU) and dice similarity coefficient (DSC) are up to 83.68% and 91.13%, respectively. The current results demonstrate that our approach is feasible and has a potential significance in clinical practice.

Wireless Charger Network (WCN) emerges as a promising networking paradigm, employing wireless chargers with Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology to provide long-term and sustainable energy supply for future networks. Although extensive research has been conducted in this area over the last decade, there is currently no comprehensive survey to compile the latest literature and provide insights into future research directions. To fill this gap, our survey explores the recent developments in the active research area of WCNs. This paper starts by providing a framework of WCNs in detail, covering aspects of network architecture, various charging models, network design issues, and typical applications of WCNs. Then, we give an overview of charger deployment schemes, focusing on omnidirectional, directional, non-radiative, and heterogeneous charger deployments. We also provide an overview of charging scheduling schemes, encompassing power control, time allocation, energy beamforming, and multi-resource scheduling. Moreover, we explore communication optimization schemes, including Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols, routing protocols, broadcast transmission, and data collection. Finally, we highlight some future research directions and present corresponding open issues to advance the research on WCNs. © 1998-2012 IEEE.
