In an era where data is abundant yet underutilized, organizations across various sectors face challenges in extracting actionable insights from complex, multi-modal datasets. To address these challenges, this study proposes a versatile data analytics framework designed to enhance predictive accuracy and support informed decision-making. The framework integrates structured and unstructured data, leveraging advanced Transformer architectures to capture temporal dynamics and complex interactions within the data. In a healthcare use case, the framework demonstrated its effectiveness by achieving an Accuracy of 0.854, an F1-Score of 0.895, and an AUC-ROC of 0.930, significantly outperforming traditional models. By incorporating SHAP for interpretability, the framework ensures that its predictions are both accurate and transparent, making it a valuable tool for decision-makers. While healthcare is one application, the framework’s flexibility allows it to be adapted to a wide range of industries. Future work will focus on validating the framework across different sectors and integrating it into operational workflows to optimize decision-making and outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

The energy required to cool a data center (DC) depends on both thermal and workload management. Although existing energy-and temperature-aware workload assignment approaches reduce operational expenditure by minimizing cooling energy consumption, they do not address the loss of available cooling capacity (i.e., loss of thermodynamic exergy) due to unavoidable system inefficiencies. By quantifying the exergy efficiency, the actual cooling COP and maximum achievable COP during operation can be embedded in the DC control system. A multi-objective optimization problem is formulated that quantifies the tradeoff between energy and exergy efficiencies. By reducing the exergy loss, the available cooling capacity, and therefore the capital expenditure can be effectively utilized, potentially reducing the total cost of ownership. We identify scenarios when significant improvements in the utilization of cooling capacity are possible with only small increases in energy consumption. © 2021 ACM.

As a special type of Knowledge Graph (KG), Continual Knowledge Graph Learning (CKGL) plays a pivotal role in various areas such as recommendation systems, search engines, and personalized services, where knowledge dynamically evolves. A challenging problem in CKGL is catastrophic forgetting, where models forget previously learned knowledge upon being trained on new data. To overcome the challenge, this study proposes Flexible Memory Rotation (FMR), a dual-level regularization technique that focuses on both parameter level and structural level. Our idea is inspired by the natural human learning process, which tends to memorize correctly learned knowledge, leverage the learned to acquire new knowledge, and refine incorrectly learned knowledge with newly obtained information. Commonly, existing regularization-based methods fail to mimic this human nature by having a fixed constraint strategy for all model parameters. To this end, the proposed FMR offers flexible constraints based on qualities of learned knowledge evaluated by the Fisher Information Matrix (FIM). Additionally, we identified a limitation of FIM in CKGL, which is the assumption of independence of time steps does not always hold. To overcome this, FMR rotates the parameter space to diagonalize the FIM. This work has four major contributions: 1) develop a novel regularization technique, FMR, a flexible regularization technique, 2) reveal the unexpected failure of FIM in CKGL and provides an easy remedy via parameter space rotation, 3) the comparison experiments on four benchmark datasets designed for CKGL demonstrates improvement over various state-of-the-art (SOTA) CKGL models, and 4) a comprehensive ablation study investigates each component of the proposed model. In implant prosthesis treatment, the surgical guide of implant is used to ensure accurate implantation. However, such design heavily relies on the manual location of the implant position. When deep neural network has been proposed to assist the dentist in locating the implant position, most of them take a single slice as input, which do not fully explore 3D contextual information and ignores the influence of implant slope. In this paper, we design a Text Guided 3D Context and Slope Aware Triple Network (TCSloT) to integrate the perception of contextual information from multiple adjacent slices and awareness of variation of implant slopes. A Texture Variation Perception (TVP) module is correspondingly design to process the multiple slices and capture the texture variation among slices and a Slope-Aware Loss (SAL) is proposed to dynamically assign adaptive weights for the regression head. Additionally, we design a conditional text guidance (CTG) module to integrate the text condition (i.e., left, middle and right) from the CLIP to assist the implant position prediction. Extensive experiments on a dental implant dataset through five-fold cross-validation, demonstrated that the proposed TCSloT achieves superior performance than existing methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Perioperative nutrition evaluation is crucial for patient care and resource efficiency in healthcare. This work proposes a deep learning-based perioperative nutrition evaluation tool that leverages sophisticated machine learning to improve predictions and assist clinicians in making better choices. As surgical techniques become more complex and medical technology progresses, a thorough postoperative nutrition study becomes more important than ever. An extensive review demonstrates that the recommended strategy performs better than other machine learning techniques. Our model's accuracy, precision, memory, and F1-score let it predict surgical outcomes more accurately. The higher AVC-ROC and AVC-PR values of the suggested approach show that it performs particularly well. Its sensitivity-specificity balance is demonstrated by this. Our approach generates fewer errors, according to the confusion matrix analysis, which makes it reliable for healthcare decisions. Our work enhances critical healthcare by assessing nutrition with state-of-the-art techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is drastically changing our world by making everyday objects an integral part of the Internet. This transformation is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where Smart Hospitals are now relying on IoT technologies to track staff, patients, devices, and equipment, both within a hospital and beyond. This paradigm opens the door to new innovations for creating novel types of interactions among objects, services, and people in smarter ways to enhance the quality of patient services and the efficient utilisation of resources. However, the realisation of real-time IoT applications in health care and, ultimately, the development of Smart Hospitals are constrained by their current Cloud-based computing environment. Edge computing emerged as a new computing model that harnesses Edge-based resources alongside Clouds for real-time IoT applications. It helps to capitalise on the potential economic impact of the IoT paradigm of $11 trillion per year, with a trillion IoT devices deployed by 2025 to sense, manage, and monitor the hospital systems in real time. This vision paper proposes new algorithms and software systems to tackle important challenges in Edge computing-enabled Smart Hospitals, including how to manage and execute diverse real-time IoT applications and how to meet their diverse and strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in hospital settings. The aim of this work is to examine the application of FHE-SMPC as a viable security model for protecting the tenant isolation in multi-tenant cloud model. In multi-tenant environments, where various customers use the same cloud system, controlling the data leakage and protecting privacy is a major issue. Actual safeguards fail to meet the needs of data protection during processing, therefore, the introduction of highly elaborate encryption processes must happen. This research work focuses on the use of FHE technique and SMPC such that data can undergo processing while the plaintext remains unknown to any party. A kind of approach is based on the acquisition of synthetic and real data sets, system-level architecture, and cryptographic algorithms using open-source libraries with cloud service providers. The results of such implementation indicate that despite the fact that the FHE-SMPC system has a considerable computational overhead in comparison with classical schemes it is very secure and protected against different types of cryptographic attacks. The problem of scalability is still an open issue, but the complex is quite efficient with various data types that is why it can be used in various cloud applications. This paper offers a pertinent solution for security of data that is housed in multitenant environment and will go along way in creating fertile ground for research and innovation in secure clouding. © 2024 IEEE.

Investigation on Analog and Digital Modulations Recognition Using Machine Learning Algorithms

In the field of radiocommunication, modulation type identification is one of the most important characteristics in signal processing. This study aims to implement a modulation recognition system on two approaches to machine learning techniques, the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). From a statistical and spectral analysis of signals, nine key differentiation features are extracted and used as input vectors for each trained model. The feature extraction is performed by using the Hilbert transform, the forward and inverse Fourier transforms. The experiments with the AMC Master dataset classify ten (10) types of analog and digital modulations. AM_DSB_FC, AM_DSB_SC, AM_USB, AM_LSB, FM, MPSK, 2PSK, MASK, 2ASK, MQAM are put forward in this article. For the simulation of the chosen model, signals are polluted by the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). The simulation results show that the best identification rate is the MLP neuronal method with 90.5% of accuracy after 10 dB signal-to-noise ratio value, with a shift of more than 15% from the k-nearest neighbors’ algorithm.

Training neural networks is a fundamental problem in theoretical machine learning. Second-order methods are rarely used in practice due to their high computational cost, even they converge much faster than first-order methods. The state-of-the-art result for the second-order method to train an over-parameterized neural network can run in O(log(1/ϵ)) iterations and each iteration has O(mnd + n3) running time, where n represent the number of data points, d is the dimension of the feature space of each data and m is the width of the neural network [Brand, Peng, Song and Weinstein ITCS 2021]. In this work, we further improve the convergence rate and the running time for each iteration to O(loglog(1/ϵ)) and O(mdτ2) respectively, where m = Ω(n4) and τ is the treewidth of the data matrix and usually very small. Our algorithm has a quadratic convergence rate, so it can be regarded as a truly second-order algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, our algorithm is the first to achieve a quadratic convergence rate for neural network training, with a per-iteration running time of O(mdτ2). © 2024 IEEE.
