IoT(Internet of Things)devices are being used more and more in a variety of businesses and for a variety of tasks,such as environmental data collection in both civilian and military *** are a desirable attack target for malware intended to infect specific IoT devices due to their growing use in a variety of applications and their increasing computational and processing *** this study,we investigate the possibility of detecting IoT malware using recurrent neural networks(RNNs).RNNis used in the proposed method to investigate the execution operation codes of ARM-based Internet of Things apps(OpCodes).To train our algorithms,we employ a dataset of IoT applications that includes 281 malicious and 270 benign pieces of *** trained model is then put to the test using 100 brand-new IoT malware samples across three separate LSTM *** exposure was not previously conducted on these *** newly crafted malware samples with 2-layer neurons had the highest accuracy(98.18%)in the 10-fold cross validation experiment.A comparison of the LSTMtechnique to other machine learning classifiers shows that it yields the best results.

With the growing Deaf and Hard of Hearing population worldwide and the persistent shortage of certified sign language interpreters, there is a pressing need for an efficient, signs-driven, integrated end-to-end translation system, from sign to gloss to text and vice-versa. There has been a wealth of research on machine translations and related reviews. However, there are few works on sign language machine translation considering the particularity of the language being continuous and dynamic. This paper aims to address this void, providing a retrospective analysis of the temporal evolution of sign language machine translation algorithms and a taxonomy of the Transformers architectures, the most used approach in language translation. We also present the requirements of a real-time Quality-of-Service sign language machine translation system underpinned by accurate deep learning algorithms. In the research field of system-level diagnosis, people used to focus on studying different diagnosabilities with restrictions. By studying this, reliability measured by these diagnosabilities of various of networks is obtained. However, for the decentralized parallel computing systems, there are always upper bonds for diagnosabilities, which means there exists an undiagnosable subnetwork cut off by a faulty vertex cut if the subnetwork is large enough. In this paper, we set up a 2-stage plan for the global reliable diagnosis of networks combining Self-Comparative diagnosis (SC) model and the g-good-neighbor property, which means every vertex in the networks is diagnosed with high accuracy. Six algorithms are proposed for the realization of the plan and diagnosis model for g≥2. In the end, we code a simulator for the plan and test how well it works and the codes are provided via Github link for readers' check. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Android applications are getting bigger with an increasing number of features. However, not all the features are needed by a specific user. The unnecessary features can increase the attack surface and cost additional resources (e.g., storage and memory). Therefore, it is important to remove unnecessary features from Android applications. However, it is difficult for the end users to fully explore the apps to identify the unnecessary features, and there is no off-the-shelf tool available to assist users to debloat the apps by themselves. In this work, we propose AutoDebloater to debloat Android applications automatically for end users. AutoDebloater is a web application that can be accessed by end-users through a web browser. In particular, AutoDebloater can automatically explore an app and identify the transitions between activities. Then, AutoDebloater will present the Activity Transition Graph to users and ask them to select the activities they do not want to keep. Finally, AutoDebloater will remove the activities that are selected by users from the app. We conducted a user study on five Android apps downloaded from three categories (i.e., Finance, Tools, and Navigation) in Google Play and F-Droid. The results show that users are satisfied with AutoDebloater in terms of the stability of the debloated apps and the ability of AutoDebloater to identify features that are never noticed before. In this research paper, we conducted a comparative study to measure the effectiveness of the provided technical support in computing project-based learning (PjBL) courses. Students learn much better by solving authentic real-world problems through PjBL. PjBL in computing education has proven to boost student motivation and engagement while enhancing academic performance. Crucial to PjBL in computing is the technical support that the instructors can provide to students, which is required for sustained, successful learning during project tasks. Without adequate support, PjBL will fall short of accomplishing its goals, leading to a rise in student frustration, a loss of motivation and engagement, and compromised learning outcomes. Measuring the impacts and effectiveness of the provided support is imperative for fostering continuous improvement, informed decision-making, and student success. It enables instructors to assess the impacts of their strategies, improve their approaches, and utilize their resources more effectively. To measure the impacts of technical support on students during PjBL, we performed a comparative study on two undergraduate computing courses in Spring 2024, Fundamentals of software engineering and Database Systems. In both courses, students work on two assigned projects, one with little and inadequate support and the other with adequate support. We administered a post-survey after each project was completed. We analyzed students' selfreflection responses across four sub-scales, support satisfaction, motivation, self-efficacy, and project satisfaction. The results show a statistically significant increase in the supported project in the Fundamentals of software engineering course and no difference in the Database Systems course. This finding is likely due to other differences between the two projects for the Database Systems course beyond support, such as project scale. Device Activity Detection in mMTC with Low-Resolution ADC: A New Protocol

This paper investigates the effect of low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on device activity detection in massive machine-type communications (mMTC). The low-resolution ADCs induce two challenges on the device activity detection compared with the traditional setup with the assumption of infinite ADC resolution. First, the codebook design for signal quantization by the low-resolution ADC is particularly important since a good design of the codebook can lead to small quantization error on the received signal, which in turn has significant influence on the activity detector performance. To this end, prior information about the received signal power is needed, which depends on the number of active devices K. This is sharply different from the activity detection problem in traditional setups, in which the knowledge of K is not required by the BS as a prerequisite. Second, the covariance-based approach achieves good activity detection performance in traditional setups while it is not clear if it can still achieve good performance in this paper. To solve the above challenges, we propose a communication protocol that consists of an estimator for K and a detector for active device identities: 1) For the estimator, the technical difficulty is that the design of the ADC quantizer and the estimation of K are closely intertwined and doing one needs the information/execution from the other. We propose a progressive estimator which iteratively performs the estimation of K and the design of the ADC quantizer;2) For the activity detector, we propose a custom-designed stochastic gradient descent algorithm to estimate the active device identities. In this research paper, drawing from our own and other computing instructors' experiences, we highlight common technical challenges faced by students in software engineering project-based learning (PjBL) and discuss ways in which instructors can support students in overcoming them so that motivation is summoned and sustained. Through the use of practical hands-on experiences, PjBL has been shown to be an effective educational approach. However, unless projects are intentionally designed and supported in a way that summons and sustains student motivation, PjBL is likely to fail to accomplish its goals. Several factors influence student motivation, including their perception of the project's value and how confident they are in their ability to complete it. In particular, challenges that students perceive as insurmountable during the project can significantly weaken their motivation. On the other hand, supporting students to overcome such hurdles can be troublesome, especially in large classes as well as classes with diversity in student backgrounds. To generalize from our own experience, we designed a questionnaire targeted at PjBL computing instructors that contained closed and open questions on technical challenges faced by students, support instructors provided to overcome such challenges, and lessons learned by instructors on the effectiveness of their support. A total of 47 responses were collected from instructors with diverse backgrounds in terms of courses taught, students' years, and class sizes. We categorized the technical challenges into three main categories, namely (a) challenges in installing and configuring software packaged tools, (b) lack of prerequisite knowledge, and (c) challenges while completing project tasks. In this paper, we present the survey results from the three categories of technical challenges, their frequencies, importance, and effective support strategies instructors use to alleviate them.

Cellular networks have evolved to deliver high-speed broadband services to support the requirements of IoT applications, which demand high speed, low latency, and massive capacity. A primary market goal is to provide support for ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). URLLC requires sub-milliseconds-level latencies as defined by the third generation partnership project (3GPP). One of the promising technologies to achieve the aforementioned specifications is grant-free (GF) access for uplink resources. The GF scheme enables the user equipment (UE) to transmit data over pre-allocated resources which reduces communication latency. This paper proposes an intelligent Reinforcement Learning (RL) based allocator of grants trained via Deep Q-Learning. The experimental results show effect of the number of UEs in the network, and the percentage of unstable UEs on the speed of the RL agent's convergence.

Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is emerging as a promising paradigm to provide flexible computing services close to user devices (UDs). However, meeting the computation-hungry and delay-sensitive demands of UDs faces several challenges, including the resource constraints of MEC servers, inherent dynamic and complex features in the MEC system, and difficulty in dealing with the time-coupled and decision-coupled optimization. In this work, we first present an edge-cloud collaborative MEC architecture, where the MEC servers and cloud collaboratively provide offloading services for UDs. Moreover, we formulate an energy-efficient and delay-aware optimization problem (EEDAOP) to minimize the energy consumption of UDs under the constraints of task deadlines and long-term queuing delays. Since the problem is proved to be non-convex mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP), we propose an online joint communication resource allocation and task offloading approach (OJCTA). Specifically, we transform EEDAOP into a real-time optimization problem by employing the Lyapunov optimization framework. Then, to solve the real-time optimization problem, we propose a communication resource allocation and task offloading optimization method by employing the Tammer decomposition mechanism, convex optimization method, bilateral matching mechanism, and dependent rounding method. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed OJCTA can achieve superior system performance compared to the benchmark approaches. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
