Monge-Ampere Regularization for Learning Arbitrary Shapes from Point Clouds

As commonly used implicit geometry representations, the signed distance function (SDF) is limited to modeling watertight shapes, while the unsigned distance function (UDF) is capable of representing various surfaces. However, its inherent theoretical shortcoming, i.e., the non-differentiability at the zero-level set, would result in sub-optimal reconstruction quality. In this paper, we propose the scaled-squared distance function (S2DF), a novel implicit surface representation for modeling arbitrary surface types. S2DF does not distinguish between inside and outside regions while effectively addressing the non-differentiability issue of UDF at the zero-level set. We demonstrate that S2DF satisfies a second-order partial differential equation of Monge-Ampere-type, allowing us to develop a learning pipeline that leverages a novel Monge-Ampere regularization to directly learn S2DF from raw unoriented point clouds without supervision from ground-truth S2DF values. Extensive experiments across multiple datasets show that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art supervised approaches that require ground-truth surface information as supervision for training. Active Queue Management (AQM) methods control the router's buffer to maintain high network performance and control congestion at the router buffer. Random Early Detection (RED) method is the most well-known and the most utilized AQM. RED suffers from a high dropping rate, which motivates the later AQM methods to use more complex processes, which reach the limits of using fuzzy systems as a processing technique. Yet, high computational cost affects the router's performance specifically and the network as a whole, with so-called processing delay. In this paper, a linear version of RED (LRED) is presented to reduce the computational cost of the original RED and maintain the network performance in terms of throughput, delay, dropping, and loss. LRED is built based on two distinctive features, simplifying the congestion indicator calculation and reducing the operations in calculating the dropping probability. The experimental results showed that the proposed method reduces the delay and the processing time while maintaining the throughput and loss of the RED method. © 2022 Slovene Society Informatika. How to construct an effective ANFIS (Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System) with insufficient (sparse) training data is a challenging problem, as the rule base of such an ANFIS model will be sparse. Fuzzy rule interpolation technique enables fuzzy inference to be performed over a sparse rule base, so it is natural to introduce FRI to support the ANFIS construction. In this work, a new clustering guided rule interpolation approach is proposed for the ANFIS construction problem. Different with most existing FRI based ANFIS construction methods that commonly conduct rule interpolation at individual rule level, the proposed method makes the interpolation to be performed on a cluster level. It adopts a clustering strategy to guide the rule selection and rule weights calculation processes, ensuring the rule similarity and diversity at the same time. Particularly, the proposed approach firstly generates a rule dictionary and divides it into several clusters. Following that a cluster guided method is designed for automated selection of relevant rules from each cluster to be included in subsequent interpolation process. Then the weight for each selected rule is calculated by considering both the cluster size and the cluster distance. Experimental results against benchmark regression datasets indicate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Blockchain technology has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Because blockchain systems may contain malicious or spatially limited nodes that may delay block verification and reduce block transmission rate, this work proposes a block transmission model by designing and using special clusters. This work proposes the cluster formation and selection mechanisms. Nodes are grouped into clusters in a blockchain, and clusters with high fitness values are chosen to transmit blocks by calculating their trust values and block transmission rates. The proposed method is compared with the peers: Layer-Chain, BlockP2P-EP and RNS. According to experimental findings, the proposed method is superior to its peers regarding the time needed for block synchronization and transmission, block occupation storage ratio, transaction throughput, and block transmission success ratio. © 2024 IEEE.

With fast development of Cyber Physical System, the variety and volume of data generated from different edge servers are fairly considerable. Mining and exploiting the data would definitely bring huge advantages. However, there are two major issues exposed in the process. First, utilizing the data with high efficiency is challenging in edge computing environment. Second, data from multiple edge servers often contain sensitive information such as user preferences, which will give rise to privacy breach risks when using the data. Locality-Sensitive Hashing and amplified technology are utilized for dealing with two problems. In this paper, we propose a novel privacy-protection approach named SRchain-LSH in edge computing environment which is based on amplified Locality-Sensitive Hashing technique. In order to verify high accuracy and efficiency of our proposal, large sets of experiments are conducted. According to experimental results, our proposal shows better performance than those of comparative methods in terms of MAE , RMSE and time costs. For our method, the best value of MAE is about 0.41 and time cost is about 0.1 seconds, which are more accurate and efficient than comparative methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Snapshot boosting: a fast ensemble framework for deep neural networks

Boosting has been proven to be effective in improving the generalization of machine learning models in many fields. It is capable of getting high-diversity base learners and getting an accurate ensemble model by combining a sufficient number of weak learners. However, it is rarely used in deep learning due to the high training budget of the neural network. Another method named snapshot ensemble can significantly reduce the training budget, but it is hard to balance the tradeoff between training costs and diversity. Inspired by the ideas of snapshot ensemble and boosting, we propose a method named snapshot boosting. A series of operations are performed to get many base models with high diversity and accuracy, such as the use of the validation set, the boosting-based training framework, and the effective ensemble strategy. Last, we evaluate our method on the computer vision(CV) and the natural language processing(NLP) tasks, and the results show that snapshot boosting can get a more balanced trade-off between training expenses and ensemble accuracy than other well-known ensemble methods.

Online social networks have emerged as a significant data source, but the extensive collection and utilization of personal information have given rise to profound concerns regarding privacy. From a legislative and policy perspective, and in alignment with the concept of privacy as control, users have the right to control their personal privacy information. However, users often encounter challenges in terms of understanding and effectively managing their privacy settings to align with their specific privacy requirements. To address this issue, in this paper, we incorporate the concept of trust and propose a trust-based personalized differential privacy model for online social networks, denoted as TPDP, which relies on a trusted central server to facilitate its operation. Specifically, when a user requests access to another user's personal information, the TPDP mechanism provides a privacy response, where the privacy level is determined based on the direct and indirect trust values among users, calculated automatically by the trusted central server. Furthermore, the proposed TPDP model offers user-to-user personalized differential privacy protection from the perspectives of network structures, trust-related factors, and trust propagation patterns. Finally, we validate the model's feasibility and assess the privacy-utility trade-off, as well as its robustness against attacks, through theoretical analysis and performance evaluation. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Recently, large Vision Language (VL) models, i.e., CLIP, have demonstrated impressive capabilities in training solely on internet-scale image-language pairs. Moreover, almost all VL models have tackled indoor objects under controlled illumination and camera views. However, outdoor 3D environments are time-varying uncontrolled scenes under natural phenomena. Therefore, captions from such unseen scenes and objects are hard to obtain in a state-of-the-art (SOTA) one-shot algorithm, resulting in insufficient captions. This paper proposes PV-Cap (Physics-based Vocabulary for Caption) for enhancing 3D scene understanding through enriched captions. Since many tasks in understanding 3D dynamic scenes are hard to deal with, PVCap aims to disentangle such complexities through multiple grouped Deep Learning and Vision Language models step-wisely. Proposed i-VQA (iterative VQA) and 3D-CPP (3D Contrastive Physical-Scale Pretraining) extended from SOTA 2D-CLIP also contribute to generating physical and 3D-based captions. Using many images with 3D dynamic events, i.e., road scenes with traffic flow and accidents, experiments have demonstrated the usability and effectiveness of proposed PV-Cap over SOTA models in terms of segmentation and captions.

Reconstructing the 2D or 3D shape of an object from several 2D drawings is a crucial problem in computer-aided design (CAD). Despite the advancement of deep neural networks, automatic isometric image generation from three orthographic views line drawings using deep learning remains unresolved. Existing image-to-image translation techniques often generate images from just one input image. In this paper, we propose a novel method for the above task using a GAN-based model, namely IsoGAN. This method takes three images of object’s front, side, and top view as input, then analyzes the spatial and geometrical relations between each view and finally generates the corresponding isometric view image of the object. Extensive experiments on SPARE3D dataset show promising results of IsoGAN on isometric view generation task, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed IsoGAN.
