The term hate speech encompasses communication that conveys hostility or prejudice toward individuals or groups based on specific attributes, including race, ethnicity, gender, or religion. Given the prevalence of such harmful content on major social media platforms like Twitter, it is imperative to prioritize ongoing research into automated detection methods. This study employs advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, involving pivotal stages such as data collection, preprocessing, oversampling, fastText word embedding, and classification using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to achieve the objective. The amalgamation of fastText embeddings with LSTM classification yielded noteworthy results, with the model achieving 94% accuracy, 92% precision, 94% recall, and a 93% F1 score. These outcomes underscore the effectiveness of sophisticated machine learning methodologies in accurately discerning and addressing the proliferation of hate speech online, particularly in the context of Indonesian-language content. © 2024 IEEE.

The development of the industrial Internet of Things and smart grid networks has emphasized the importance of secure smart grid communication for the future of electric power transmission. However, the current deployment of smart meters and wireless communication methods presents several security concerns that must be addressed to ensure sustainable and resilient smart grid networks for Industry 5.0, with a focus on consumer-centric technologies. In this context, we propose a privacy-focused authentication solution for secure consumer-centric demand response management in smart grid networks, incorporating consumer electronics. Our proposed protocol utilizes blockchain-based authentication to enhance resistance against potential attacks and ensure the integrity of demand response data. Additionally, we have incorporated a PUF to prevent physical attacks. We have conducted informal and formal security analyses to verify the effectiveness of our proposed protocol against various threats and to confirm the session key security. Our comparison study has demonstrated that our protocol provides superior security and added functionalities, with lower computation and communication costs compared to similar protocols. Furthermore, we have measured the computational time for implementing the blockchain component of our protocol while considering the impact of varying numbers of block additions and transactions per block. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

In the field of precision farming or smart farming, more and more sensors are used and produce a massive amount of data. Examples are machinery, weather stations, or georeferenced data, which can be used, among other things, by Artificial Intelligence decision support systems to improve or facilitate farmers’ daily work tasks. Even if there are no issues in transferring (Internet of Things) sensor data from machines to farm management information systems, data still contain errors such as missing, implausible, or incorrect data values. In this paper, we present an automated data quality assessment (DQA) tool based on the ISO25012 standard. We describe the process of how we developed this tool with support from practitioners who produce agricultural data in the context of the EU Horizon 2020 project DEMETER. Additionally, we highlight some of the requirements we collected for such a tool and briefly discuss how we addressed them. For example, we learned that in the context of developing smart farming services, the data quality dimensions Accuracy, Completeness, Consistency, and Credibility are the most important ones for practitioners such as farmers, digital service providers, or machine suppliers. Therefore, we included them in the DQA tool and implemented it in Python. It is released under the open-source Apache 2 license. Individual parameters can be provided as input for calculations (e.g., thresholds or time lengths) to meet different users’ needs. The output of the DQA is provided in machine-readable JSON format and can be used for further analysis, e.g., to improve the quality of the data collection or the followup data analysis. The continuous revolution in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played a significant role in the development of key consumer applications, including Industry 5.0, autonomous decision-making, fault diagnosis, etc. In practice, autonomous and intelligent robots and flying vehicles (i.e., drones) are also becoming the integral part of Industry 5.0. These vehicles are attaining significant importance nowadays because of their applications in consumer electronics. However, there may be numerous privacy issues in such an infrastructure. Nevertheless, neural computing-driven security solutions have played a significant role in overcoming the security and privacy issues of AI-driven intelligent flying vehicles. Motivated by these facts, this article presents a neural computing-based access control protocol for AI-driven flying vehicles to prevent all possible security threats. A detailed security evaluation of the devised protocol is done formally using the extensively recognized Real-Or-Random (ROR) oracle model. Similarly, the informal security analysis ensures the resistance of our scheme against various potential attacks under the assumptions of CK and DY adversarial models. Moreover, detailed performance scrutiny of the devised protocol with various existing schemes shows the robustness and supremacy of our scheme in terms of computation, communication overhead, and security attributes. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The Visual Storytelling Task (VST) extends beyond describing a single image, such as image captioning, to sequential image descriptions in the form of a coherent story. However, such descriptions present challenges in handling varying language styles, relational role-modeling, consistency, and events not evident in individual images. A common limitation in existing approaches is their inability to fully describe relations and visual changes, leading to stories devoid of linguistic cohesion between multiple sentences. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel framework, Sequential Image Storytelling Model (SISM), based on the Transformer architecture. Our model contextualizes input images by dividing them into multiple 16 × 16 patches and associates them with language content using the encoder-decoder technique. It incorporates cross-attention and attention pooling to identify the most relevant relationships between input images. Our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance on the recently published SSID dataset and performs competitively on VIST dataset, achieving the top score on BLEU-1 metric. © 2023 IEEE.

Retinal diseases such as Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV), Drusen, and Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) can severely impair vision and are challenging to reverse if detected late. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) serves as a non-invasive imaging modality to diagnose these conditions through cross-sectional retinal images. Current advancements in retinal disease detection predominantly focus on fine-tuning larger models to achieve high accuracy, often at the expense of substantial training time and data requirements. We introduce an innovative Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) named TezNet that is deeper and wider than existing custom CNNs for the dataset used in this research yet maintains a lightweight architecture with only 3.6 million parameters. This high efficiency is accomplished by leveraging depthwise and spatial separable convolutional techniques without employing preprocessing techniques or noise reduction filters. The data augmentation techniques generate diverse image qualities, ensuring robust predictions across various scenarios. By training exclusively on a single dataset, our model achieves rapid training times and optimal resource utilization, minimizing the risk of overfitting. This blend of advanced parameter optimization, minimal preprocessing, and strategic data augmentation underscores the potential of our CNN model for swift, precise, and resource-efficient retinal disease detection. TezNet model achieves a remarkable 96% accuracy, competing closely with state-of-the-art networks like ResNet50 (over 23M parameters), InceptionV3 (over 25M parameters), and ResNeXt (89M parameters). © 2024 IEEE.

Stuttering or stammering is a common neurogenic, psychogenic fluency disorder wherein people have uncontrolled blocks on the natural flow of speech. Automatic Stuttering Event Detection (SED) is a widely recognised challenge due to the heterogenic and overlapped nature of stuttering speech. Therefore, this comparative study investigates the impact of stuttering event representation on detection performance. The paper evaluates the performance of SED and shows the impact of employing ASR pre-trained feature extractions on each stuttering event. Moreover, the paper provides different groups of experiments that evaluate the impact of three acoustic features, the Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR), the Spectral Flux Onset Strength Envelope (SFO), and Fundamental Frequency (FF) features, on SED performance. The paper demonstrates that the fusion of spectral and ASR features improves SED performance across all stuttering events by 8%. The F1 score of the Block class increased by approximately 10%, from 15% to 25%, while the word repetition and interjection increased by 8%. In addition, our experiments proved that the fusion of temporal features increased the average F1 score of SED by 2% across all stuttering events. The F1 score of the prolongation and sound repetition classes increased by 6% and 3%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Drug discovery is an expensive and risky process. To combat the challenges in drug discovery, an increasing number of researchers and pharmaceutical companies recognize the benefits of utilizing computational techniques. Evolutionary computation (EC) offers promise as most drug discovery problems are essentially complex optimization problems beyond conventional optimization algorithms. EC methods have been widely applied to solve these complex optimization problems especially in lead com-pound generation and molecular virtual evaluation, substantially speeding up the process of drug discovery and development. This article presents a comprehensive survey of EC-based drug discovery methods. Particularly, a new taxonomy of the methods is provided and the advantages and limitations of the methods are reviewed. In addition, the potential future directions of EC-based drug discovery are discussed and the publicly available resources including databases and computational tools are compiled for the convenience of researchers seeking to pursue this field.
