Anomaly detection is a popular research topic in Artificial Intelligence and has been widely applied in network security, financial fraud detection, and industrial equipment failure detection. Isolation forest based methods are the base algorithms to detect anomalies in these scenarios for their simplicity and efficiency, which has been further exploited with multi-folk trees and learning mechanisms to realize the optimal isolation forest for high detection accuracy. However, the optimal isolation forest is time-consuming with the learning mechanisms, resulting in the task failing of time-constrained applications. Moreover, the original optimal isolation forest fails to construct the optimal tree structure restricted by the time complexity. To address the above challenges, we propose an efficient anomaly detection method called EEIF, which realizes the real e-folk structure of the optimal isolation forest in our practical algorithm design. Specifically, we design a distribution that perfectly matches the e-branch theory to construct the optimal isolation forest. Then, we design an FR clustering scheme to achieve fast training of the isolation forest with learning to hash and provide related proofs of accuracy and efficiency. Besides, a parallel algorithm is integrated into our method to reduce prediction time. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted on a large amount of real-world datasets and the results demonstrate that our method significantly improves efficiency while ensuring effectiveness, compared with the state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected objects, which congregate and exchange gigantic amounts of data. Usually, predeployed embedded sensors sense this massive data. Soon, several applications of IoT are anticipated to exploit emerging 6G technology. Healthcare is one of them, where the 6G-inspired paradigm may facilitate the users to exchange information through hundreds of sensors under the assumption of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). Integration of medical sensors with AIoT is known as Artificial Intelligence of Medical Things (AIoMT). The secure and seamless interactions among 6G-enabled AIoMT users should be the primary challenge. Furthermore, resource-constrained wearable sensing devices, with their inability to execute complex security solutions, provide an ideal attraction for malicious entities to launch diverse attacks. These challenges have motivated us to design a cost-effective authenticated solution (CAS) for 6G-enabled AIoMT healthcare applications. Our CAS protocol not only prevents cyber threats like impersonation session key secrecy but it can also prevent physical threats like hardware tampering. We observe formal and informal security validations to endorse its robustness and effectiveness. Performance comparison reveals that the CAS protocol offers maximum security enrichment. Moreover, CAS is cost-effective as it has achieved 33% and 60% reduction in computation and communication overheads, respectively, compared to contemporary competing related protocols. © 2014 IEEE.

The roadside video surveillance signal can help people achieve vehicle tracking and trajectory generation. Using these trajectories can learn the future motion of vehicles. Existing prediction methods can not analyze the interaction between vehicles well. To this end, we design a dynamic vehicle graph to represent the dynamic interaction between vehicles for trajectory prediction. A graph convolution module with an attention mechanism is used to extract the feature of the dynamic vehicle graph. Experiments comparing with baseline methods are conducted on a real-world dataset to demonstrate our model's improvement in forecast accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

In cell culture investigations, it is assumed that the number of cells is counted automatically without the need for forward planning, additional tools, or consumables. The automatic cell counting process is greatly facilitated and made functional by the segmentation of cell culture lines. Many studies with high-accuracy results have been developed for cell or tissue segmentation in images acquired from microscopic systems, but this success cannot be achieved for segmentation of cell culture line (especially in images acquired from inverted microscope). There are still restrictions in segmentation of cell culture line studies in inverted microscope systems. In this context, a new inverted microscope image data set is created and higher accuracy auto-encoder models are developed for segmentation of HaCat cell culture line. The analyzes of the developed auto-encoder models are evaluated using four different performance evaluation procedures which are Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity and Jaccard. In terms of the performance evaluation procedures used in this study, the achievements of the auto-encoder models are clearly satisfactory for the automated segmentation of the HaCat cell culture line. © 2023 IEEE.

Globally, the development of intelligent Cyber-Physical Transportation Systems (ICTS) aims to tackle several challenges, including reducing traffic accidents and fuel usage, alleviating congestion, shortening travel time, and enhancing overall transportation safety. These systems leverage advanced customer-centric communication and networked control methods, such as inter-vehicle, vehicle-to-roadside (V2R), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication through the use of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) to cover all aspects of transportation-based information. In existing systems, once devices are registered with a Trusted Authority (TA), subsequent authentication still relies on the TA's assistance. However, these devices typically remain stationary, and frequent interaction with the TA becomes impractical and costly in highly mobile VANET environments. To address this challenge, we propose a secure access control protocol with conditional privacy for VANETs. Unlike other protocols, our protocol does not require the TA's involvement during authentication between vehicles and RSUs. Additionally, our protocol leverages pseudonym mechanisms to provide conditional privacy, enabling legitimate vehicles to remain anonymous while malicious ones can be tracked. Our proposed scheme is supported by both formal and informal security analyses and has been shown to be secure against several known attacks in VANETs. Furthermore, compared to relevant studies, our protocol achieves 30.2505% of efficiency in terms of computation cost and 11.09276% of efficiency in terms of communication cost, respectively. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

I Can’t Share Code, but I need Translation - An Empirical Study on Code Translation through Federated LLM

Owing to the rapid evolution of technologies and project requirements, organizations need to upgrade the code base in their software projects to a new version of the programming language or even translating to an entirely new one. However, code translation is resource-intensive and requires expertise in both the source and target languages. While researchers have made progress in automating translations between legacy and modern languages, recent work has increasingly turned to pre-trained Large Language Models (LLMs) to translate efficiently. Given the proprietary nature of code, organizations prefer finetuning LLMs locally rather than relying on external APIs. This is one of the first empirical studies that proposes a Federated LLM-based approach for code translation. The proposed approach enables clients to jointly train a code translator without sharing sensitive data. This study demonstrates that participants can collaboratively develop a FedLLM for efficient code translation (particularly C# to Java and vice-versa) with superior results (more than 40% improvement in CodeLLaMA’s CodeBLEU score) compared to individual client models. Our findings indicate that FedLLM offers a collaborative approach to code translation and could serve as a promising direction for future research in this field. © 2025, CC BY.

The epidemic growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) objects have revolutionized Maritime Transportation Systems (MTS). Though, it becomes challenging for the centralized cloud-centric framework to fulfil the application requirements such as low latency and power utilization. The introduction of the distributed edge-centric framework has recently helped the IoT-enabled MTS to meet these requirements by manipulating the tasks at the edge of the networks. Despite the fact that MTS leverages mobile subscribers by overcoming inherent cloud computing limitations, data security and user privacy requirements in establishing the MTS setup are still non-trivial challenges. In this article, we develop a key agreement solution for mobile users to realize mutual authentication in a single round. Our protocol offers user anonymity to maintain user privacy, and it can prevent physical attacks by physically unclonable functions. Initially, the security analysis is conferred to substantiate our protocol's security persistence or strength. Later, its performance correlation is observed under the assumption of diverse metrics in a predefined empirical setup. The meticulous performance correlation endorses the precedence of our protocol over specified related protocols. © 2000-2011 IEEE.

Metric localization for lunar rovers via cross-view image matching

Accurate localization is critical for lunar rovers exploring lunar terrain features. Traditionally, lunar rover localization relies on sensor data from odometers, inertial measurement units and stereo cameras. However, localization errors accumulate over long traverses, limiting the rover’s localization accuracy. This paper presents a metric localization framework based on cross-view images (ground view from a rover and air view from an orbiter) to eliminate accumulated localization errors. First, we employ perspective projection to reduce the geometric differences in cross-view images. Then, we propose an image-based metric localization network to extract image features and generate a location heatmap. This heatmap serves as the basis for accurate estimation of query locations. We also create the first large-area lunar cross-view image (Lunar-CV) dataset to evaluate the localization performance. This dataset consists of 30 digital orthophoto maps (DOMs) with a resolution of 7 m/pix, collected by the Chang’e-2 lunar orbiter, along with 8100 simulated rover panoramas. Experimental results on the Lunar-CV dataset demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed framework. Compared to the second best method, our method significantly reduces the average localization error by 26% and the median localization error by 22%. © The Author(s) 2024.

The developer community has witnessed an unprecedented surge in recent years, with over 100 million active developers on the GitHub platform in 2023. Along with it, there is a significant rise and adoption of new programming languages, frameworks and tools. The study aims to comprehend how developers perceive these fastgrowing programming languages by performing emotion analysis of developer’s comments posted in various software artifacts such as pull requests, issues and commits of GitHub repositories. In this regard, we employed a fine-tuned small ‘Large Language Model’ (sLLM) to detect emotions, leveraging a balanced dataset from existing literature complemented with additional manual annotations from our collected data. We have analyzed 10 fast-growing programming languages, examining 1.8 million comments from 4.1 million non-code artifacts. To further validate our findings, we have performed a qualitative survey and analysis with 28 developers. Our study reveals insights into the developers emotion associated with these fast-growing languages. Notably, “Surprise’’ is the predominant emotion associated with these languages.
