Abstract In this paper, a risk-sensitive filter for a class of jump Markov nonlinear systems is proposed. By using a set of weighted cubature points to approximate the intractable risk-sensitive recursions, the proposed filter could exhibit improved numerical stability with respect to the derivation of the square-root covariance, for which the unscented transform technique might halt the operations due to the presence of non-positive definite covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is illustrated through a simulation study of tracking a land vehicle with maneuvers.

This paper presents a Gaussian mixture probability hypothesis density (GM-PHD) smoother for tracking multiple maneuvering targets that follow jump Markov models. Unlike the generalization of the multiple model GM-PHD filters, our aim is to approximate the dynamics of the linear Gaussian jump Markov system (LGJMS) by a best-fitting Gaussian (BFG) distribution so that the GM-PHD smoother can be carried out with respect to an approximated linear Gaussian system. Our approach is inspired by the recognition that the BFG approximation provides an accurate performance measure for the LGJMS. Furthermore, the multiple model estimation is avoided and less computational cost is required. The effectiveness of the proposed smoother is verified with a numerical simulation.

In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning control (ILC) scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking of uncertain delay systems based on model matching technique. The reference model is a delay system operating over in a finite time interval. An iterative model matching controller is designed and an iteration domain adaptive law is chosen to estimate the unknown parameters. It shows that the model matching technique can be applied in a straightforward method to ILC problem. A simulation example is included to illustrate the designed scheme.

This paper illustrates the strategy followed for the management of broadband wireless communications in a hybrid network (mobile/radio). This management allows the optimization of both bandwidth and transmission rate of the applications deployed in the ground control stations (terrestrial applications) and onboard systems (train applications). It also describes the general aspects of a 'train-to-earth' communications architecture, which allows an easy and standard integration of applications both new and legacy.

Traditionally Rail Traffic Management is performed automatically using centralized systems based on wired sensors and electronic elements fixed on the tracks. These systems, called Centralized Traffic Control systems (CTC) are robust and high availability, but when these systems fail, traffic management must be done manually. This paper is the result of 4 years of work with railway companies in the development of a distributed support tool for rail traffic control and management. The new system developed combines train-side systems and terrestrial applications that exchange information via a hybrid mobile and radio wireless communications architecture.

An inspection technique based on energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) has been developed to provide chemically specific detection of samples. Implementing this technique and coupling with appropriate analysis algorithm provide specific material identification. Profile analysis has been performed using the Coherence Function. The Results suggest that it is feasible to recognize heroin covered by simulation skin through coherence function analysis method. Meanwhile, the coherence coefficient can also be made as criterion of characteristic signal recognization. Thus, heroin in the body may be identified automatically through this kind of technique. © 2010 IEEE.

A data based intelligent decision support system is proposed to solve problems of decision making of tourism management in complex environments. Firstly, the architecture of the decision support system integrated with several intelligence technologies is proposed, and some key technologies of implementation, such as 3S and decomposition of large decision table are also introduced. Then, some data analysis methods used in this decision support system are presented, which include tourism information categories, space time pattern of tourism status, tourism planning and navigation, early warning of tourism status and safety incidents. Finally, several applications of this system are also given. ©2010 IEEE.

Data collection is a fundamental issue in wireless sensor networks. In many application scenarios for sensor networks, approximate data collection is a wise choice due to the constraints in communication bandwidth and energy budget. In this paper, we focus on efficient approximate data collection with given error bounds in wireless sensor networks. The key idea of our data collection approach ADC (Approximate Data Collection) is to divide a sensor network into clusters, discover local data correlations on each cluster head, and perform a global approximate data collection on the sink according to model parameters uploaded by cluster heads. Specifically, we propose a local estimation model to approximate the readings of several subsets of sensor nodes, and prove rated error-bounds of data collection using this model. In the process of model-based data collection, we formulate the problem of selecting the minimum subset of sensor nodes into a minimum dominating set problem which is known to be NP-hard, and use a greedy heuristic algorithm to find an approximate solution. We also propose a monitoring algorithm to adjust these subsets according to the changes of sensor readings. Our trace-driving simulation results show that our data collection approach ADC can notably reduce the communication cost with given error bounds.

Measurement based quantum computation, which requires only single particle measurements on a universal resource state to achieve the full power of quantum computing, has been recognized as one of the most promising models for the physical realization of quantum computers. Despite considerable progress in the past decade, it remains a great challenge to search for new universal resource states with naturally occurring Hamiltonians and to better understand the entanglement structure of these kinds of states. Here we show that most of the resource states currently known can be reduced to the cluster state, the first known universal resource state, via adaptive local measurements at a constant cost. This new quantum state reduction scheme provides simpler proofs of universality of resource states and opens up plenty of space to the search of new resource states.
