The rapid digitization of healthcare systems has led to a vast accumulation of electronic medical records (EMRs), offering an invaluable source of patient data that can significantly advance medical research and improve patient care. However, sharing EMRs for research purposes presents challenges, particularly concerning data privacy, security, and the limitations of traditional centralized data-sharing models. This paper introduces a novel approach that leverages blockchain technology to facilitate federated learning with EMRs, thereby addressing these challenges. Federated learning enables multiple institutions to collaboratively train a robust machine learning model without sharing raw data, preserving privacy and security. By integrating blockchain, this framework enhances data integrity, immutability, and trust, all in a decentralized environment. The blockchain serves as a transparent and secure ledger, recording model updates and aggregating them through a consensus-based mechanism. Smart contracts further enforce data usage policies, allowing only authorized access and maintaining control over data ownership and sharing. This approach empowers medical researchers and institutions to collaborate more effectively, accelerating the discovery of treatments, advancements in personalized medicine, and insights into rare diseases. It also enables patients to contribute to medical research while retaining control over their personal data, fostering a patient-centered approach to healthcare innovation. Experimental results confirm the efficacy and efficiency of this blockchain-enabled federated learning framework, highlighting its potential to transform medical research and adhere to stringent privacy and security standards. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of blockchain in enhancing big data analytics within healthcare, paving the way for improved collaboration, innovation, and patient outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

Recently, there has been an increasing interest in applying technological advances to offer specific dietary recommendations in the field of nutrition and health. Dietary recommendation systems are advanced tools designed to assist individuals in making well-informed and health-conscious decisions on their food choices, taking into account their personal needs, preferences, and health targets or habits. In this study, we present an AI-based mobile app for harmonizing individuals' dietary choices with the pattern of the Mediterranean diet. A combination of computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, and reinforcement techniques are used to record the nutritional information via images or speech and to generate dynamic recommendations tailored to the user's performance across key nutritional areas, encompassing calories, combined fats, proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, dietary fibers, sodium intake, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. The image-based dietary assessment subsystem achieves a mean absolute percentage error of 3.73%, while the reinforcement learning subsystem achieves a 96% average reward. Then, a well-designed approach was taken to develop the MedDietAgent mobile app, using cutting-edge technologies and applying a simplistic approach. One of the key aspects of MedDietAgent is its ability to offer dynamic recommendations by monitoring the user's environment. © 2024 IEEE.

The explosive adoption of IoT applications in different domains, such as healthcare, transportation, and smart home and industry, has led to the pervasive adoption of edge and cloud computing. Large-scale edge and cloud data centers, consisting of thousands of computing servers, are hungry-energy infrastructure exacerbating issues such as environmental carbon footprint and high electricity costs. Developing energy-efficient solutions for cloud infrastructure requires knowledge of the correlation between computing server resource utilization and power consumption. Power consumption modeling exhibits this relationship and is crucial for energy savings. In this paper, we propose PowerGen, a framework to generate server resources utilization and corresponding power consumption dataset. The proposed framework will aid academic researchers to formulate correlations between resources utilization and power consumption by using power prediction models, and evaluate energy-aware resource management approaches in an edge-cloud computing system. It will help edge and cloud administrators to evaluate the energy-efficiency of heterogenous severs architectures in a datacenter. We exemplify the applicability of the dataset, generated by our proposed framework, in power prediction modeling and energy-aware scheduling for green computing scenarios.

This study investigates a simultaneous tasks of-floading and communications (STOC) strategy in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks, facilitated by the integration of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Diverging from conventional MEC approaches, the newly proposed scheme simultaneously accounts for the computational and communicative capacities of MEC networks, rendering it a more pragmatic solution in practice. An optimization problem is devised to maximize the weighted sum of the minimum offloaded task data and communication data, while ensuring the quality of service (QoS) constraints for STOC through joint design of time scheduling, resource allocation, active and passive beamforming, alongside with the UAV trajectory planning. A novel alternating optimization method is proposed to solve this non-convex problem with strong couplings among variables. We provide sufficient numerical results to validate the effectiveness of the proposed STOC scheme.

INNSE: Invertible neural network-based DNA image storage with self-correction encoding

DNA storage has become an alternative to silicon-based storage of media. However, when used to store multimodal data such as images, it fails to take full advantage of the characteristics of high correlation and variability present in such data, and currently remains inferior in terms of encoding density and time complexity. It also has the shortcoming of weak performance in terms of error correction methods to address insertion and deletion errors caused by error crosstalk. Therefore, we proposed an invertible neural network-based DNA image storage self-correction encoding method (INNSE) that uses the invertibility of network to perform up-down sampling processing on image and video data, thereby greatly reducing the number of DNA sequences required for data storage. A codebook generator was then designed to encode low-dimensional vectors into DNA sequences that meet various constraints. Finally, a self-correction method was constructed to achieve DNA sequence error correction at the base level without adding any redundant information. Our experimental results showed that, compared to the Yin-Yang algorithm, the encoding density of INNSE was increased by 3×, encoding time complexity was reduced by 95.26%. Under a simulated error rate of 2%, PSNR and SSIM were raised by 80.88% and 63.82%, respectively, proving that INNSE has significant advantages in encoding performance and error correction ability.

Pulse feeling and palpation (PFP) are the most distinctive and representative clinical diagnostic methods of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). They provide important evidence for TCM clinical practitioners to differentiate syndromes. Extracting PFP information and analyzing its lexical features have important clinical value. In this paper, we carried out research on corpus construction and joint modeling method for PFP information extraction (IE) and lexical analysis (LA) of TCM for the first time. Based on more than ten thousand TCM clinical records, we proposed a corpus construction framework, built annotation guidelines and constructed a labeled PFP IE and LA corpus to support multi-task learning. Labeling consistency evaluated by inter-annotator agreement value for the corpora achieve more than 0.94. Moreover, we attempted to jointly model PFP IE and LA tasks of TCM with a same-level-shared multi-task model, and experimental results verified effectiveness of the joint model. © 2023 China National Conference on Computational Linguistics.

3D anomaly detection has recently become a significant focus in computer vision. Several advanced methods have achieved satisfying anomaly detection performance. However, they typically concentrate on the external structure of 3D samples and struggle to leverage the internal information embedded within samples. Inspired by the basic intuition of why not look inside for more, we introduce a straightforward method named Internal Spatial Modality Perception (ISMP) to explore the feature representation from internal views fully. Specifically, our proposed ISMP consists of a critical perception module, Spatial Insight Engine (SIE), which abstracts complex internal information of point clouds into essential global features. Besides, to better align structural information with point data, we propose an enhanced key point feature extraction module for amplifying spatial structure feature representation. Simultaneously, a novel feature filtering module is incorporated to reduce noise and redundant features for further aligning precise spatial structure. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving object-level and pixel-level AUROC improvements of 4.2% and 13.1%, respectively, on the Real3D-AD benchmarks. The core of recommendation models is estimating the probability that a user will like an item based on historical interactions. Existing collaborative filtering(CF) algorithms compute the likelihood by utilizing simple relationships between objects, e.g., user-item, item-item, or user-user. They always rely on a single type of object-object relationship, ignoring other useful relationship information in data. In this paper, we model an interaction between user and item as an edge and propose a novel CF framework, called learnable edge collaborative filtering(LECF). LECF predicts the existence probability of an edge based on the connections among edges and is able to capture the complex relationship in data. Specifically, we first adopt the concept of line graph where each node represents an interaction edge; then calculate a weighted sum of similarity between the query edge and the observed edges(i.e., historical interactions) that are selected from the neighborhood of query edge in the line graph for a recommendation. In addition, we design an efficient propagation algorithm to speed up the training and inference of LECF. Extensive experiments on four public datasets demonstrate LECF can achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

Current service robots without learning ability are not qualified for many complex tasks. Therefore, it is very significant to decompose the complex task into repeatable execution unit. In this paper, we propose a complex task representation method based on dynamic motion primitives, and use hierarchical knowledge graph to represent the analytic results of complex tasks. To realize the execution of complex robot manipulation tasks, we decompose the semantic tasks into the minimum motion units that can be executed by the robot and combine the multi-modal information: posture, force and robot joint parameters, obtained by the sensors. We use the knowledge graph to record the end-effector required by the robot to perform different tasks and make appropriate selection of end-effector according to different needs. Finally, Taking the long sequence complex task of service scene as an example, we use UR5 robot to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of this design. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation.
