Hard hearing and deaf people are communicating with other people using the sign language. This is the only way of communication of such people to convey Since this is the only means by which these individuals can communicate, it is imperative that others be able to understand their language. Sign language recognition by computer begins with the acquisition of sign gestures and ends with recognition and conversion to text or voice. Static and dynamic are the two ways of sign gestures used. This study aims at focusing on the dynamic gesture recognition and the steps for recognizing sign language are discussed. The collected data are preprocessed and feature are extracted for classification. Finally the results are all investigated and developed for single user. © 2023 IEEE.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used to study the structural makeup of the brain and analyse several neurological disorders and diseased areas. For the adoption of preventative measures, early recognition of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients is essential. Here, a thorough inspection of the tissue arrangements obtained by MRI images of Outcome and Assessment Information (OASIS) dataset enables an exact characterization of certain brain diseases. There have been a number of division techniques for diagnosing AD that range in complexity. Compassion has been tested by deep learning techniques used to segment the structure of the brain and classify AD because they have the potential to uncover important information from vast amounts of data. In this paper the deep learning technique of Hybrid Dragonfly based GWO convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is achieved promising result for the diagnosis of AD. At image preprocessing wiener filter is used for removing the additive noises and the Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) extraction is implemented for texture analyzing. As a result, hybrid deep learning methods of CNN has the accuracy as 90% and the result of the image prediction are presented in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Smart cities, industrial automation, healthcare, and environmental monitoring are just a few of the industries that have seen revolutionary changes as a result of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) explosive growth. WSNs are significantly hampered by the limited energy resources of their sensor nodes, which are usually battery-powered and placed in inaccessible locations, despite their wide-ranging applications. As a result, energy efficiency is now a crucial component of these networks’ operation and design. Though these protocols frequently fail to adjust to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of WSNs, traditional energy-aware routing methods have been created to decrease energy consumption by choosing the best paths for data transfer. By allowing sensor nodes to learn from their surroundings and make wise routing decisions, the machine learning field of reinforcement learning (RL) provides a viable answer to these problems. In contrast to conventional techniques, RL-based protocols provide continuous energy optimization by dynamically modifying their routing strategies in response to real-time feedback. This paper investigates how to include RL methods—specifically, Q-learning and SARSA—into WSN energy-aware routing protocols. The suggested method creates a more distributed and scalable solution by enabling each node to independently learn and modify its routing choices. The effectiveness of RL-based routing protocols is compared to traditional methods through comprehensive simulations. The findings show that by slowing down the rate at which energy is being used up by each node, RL not only increases energy efficiency but also lengthens the network's operational life. In particular, Q-learning demonstrates a notable improvement in sustaining data delivery rates and network connectivity under various circumstances. Requirement elicitation (RE) is a cognitively challenging and time-consuming task in software development due to the numerous challenges associated with it including conflicting requirements, unspoken, or assumed requirements, difficulty meeting with relevant stakeholders, stakeholder resistance to change, and not enough time set aside for meetings with all stakeholders. The prime causes of software implementation failure have been identified as inadequacies in the treatment of requirements. Without collecting the quality requirement, cannot achieve the goal of a quality software product. Through identifying the success factors affecting requirement elicitation, the paths to the quality requirements can be identified. The success factors identify through this research are experience, business analyst skills, stakeholder relationship, organizational elicitation process. This study aims to identify the factors affecting requirement elicitation based on the data collected from business analysts and similar positions in the software industry through a survey, interviews, and analyzed data to provide the initial validation for the identified factors. Through the analysis, we identified the main factors affecting successful requirement elicitation with a perfect significance value of less than 0.05 for all factors. © 2022 IEEE.

KDTL: knowledge-distilled transfer learning framework for diagnosing mental disorders using EEG spectrograms

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a well-known modality in neuroscience and is widely used in identifying and classifying neurological disorders. This paper investigates how EEG data can be used along with knowledge distillation-based deep learning models to detect mental disorders like epilepsy and sleep disorders. The EEG signals are converted into time–frequency plots using short-time Fourier transforms. Further, we propose a novel methodology for using knowledge distillation-based transfer learning (KDTL). Knowledge distillation is becoming quite prevalent in the machine learning field and is associated with various applications in our work;we propose its use in the detection of mental disorders from EEG spectrograms. We convert the EEGs using short-term Fourier transform to obtain time–frequency representation and apply teacher-student by first training a large teacher model and use knowledge distillation to train a student model. In our experiments, we found that ConvNext teacher and MobileNet student combination obtained better results. Our proposed KDTL approach is tested on two datasets with multiple cases, namely the Bonn and ISRUC datasets and obtain 98% and 95% accuracies, respectively. Further experimental results show that the overall KDTL methodology can obtain high classification accuracy across both datasets in binary and multiclass classifications and proves to be better than multiple prior works. Further, our KDTL approach provides a way to train lightweight models which have a smaller number of trainable parameters and thereby constitute lower training time overall. Our proposed KDTL-based approach obtained accurate results in diagnosing mental disorders from EEG spectrograms. Compared to other related methods, KDTL outperformed across tasks with obtained good results in both binary and multiclass classifications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Medical internet of things leads to revolutionary improvements in medical services, also known as smart healthcare. With the big healthcare data, data mining and machine learning can assist wellness management and intelligent diagnosis, and achieve the P4-medicine. However, healthcare data has high sparsity and heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose a Heterogeneous Transferring Prediction System (HTPS). Feature engineering mechanism transforms the dataset into sparse and dense feature matrices, and autoencoders in the embedding networks not only embed features but also transfer knowledge from heterogeneous datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed HTPS outperforms the benchmark systems on various prediction tasks and datasets, and ablation studies present the effectiveness of each designed mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate the negative impact of heterogeneous data on benchmark systems and the high transferability of the proposed HTPS. © 2023 IEEE.

Cybersecurity knowledge is essential in today’s increasingly digital healthcare environment to protect sensitive patient data and guarantee the integrity of healthcare systems. But conventional cybersecurity training approaches frequently fail to hold healthcare professionals’ attention, which results in inadequate application and retention of the material. In order to increase cybersecurity awareness among healthcare professionals, this study investigates the use of gamification—a technological technique that incorporates game design aspects into non-gaming contexts—as an innovative method. A mixed-methods research methodology is used in the study to assess the effectiveness of a cybersecurity training program that is gamified. To encourage user involvement and motivation, the program incorporates aspects like leaderboards, interactive scenarios, badges, and points. The study included a total of 100 healthcare professionals from various departments, offering a thorough understanding of the program’s effects across a range of positions and experience levels. Pre- and post-training surveys were used to gather quantitative data on participant changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to cybersecurity procedures. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews yielded qualitative insights that further elucidated the participants’ perspectives and experiences with the gamified training method. Comparing gamification to conventional training approaches, the results show that gamification dramatically improves engagement and knowledge retention. The willingness of the participants to acquire and use cybersecurity techniques in their daily lives has reportedly increased. Additionally, the gamified components strengthened the training objectives by fostering a competitive yet cooperative learning environment. For monitoring the paste concentration, existing techniques, such as ultrasonic concentration meters and neutron meters, suffer from radiation hazards and low precision in high concentrations. This paper proposes a novel non-contact concentration measurement method based on deep learning. With the dataset collected by preparing the paste with different concentrations and taking photographs from the paste surface, a convolutional neural network is trained to extract the features from images and predict the concentration. The experiments indicate that the measurement accuracy is close to 88.79 % for the manual stirring paste dataset and 91.42 % for the automatic stirring paste dataset, which are sufficient in industrial applications. As a substitution of traditional concentration measurement instruments, the proposed vision-based concentration measurement method is non-contact and its accuracy is sufficient in industrial applications. © 2024 IEEE.
