Enhancing Deep Reinforcement Learning with Scenario-Based Modeling

Deep reinforcement learning agents have achieved unprecedented results when learning to generalize from unstructured data. However, the “black-box” nature of the trained DRL agents makes it difficult to ensure that they adhere to various requirements posed by engineers. In this work, we put forth a novel technique for enhancing the reinforcement learning training loop, and specifically—its reward function, in a way that allows engineers to directly inject their expert knowledge into the training process. This allows us to make the trained agent adhere to multiple constraints of interest. Moreover, using scenario-based modeling techniques, our method allows users to formulate the defined constraints using advanced, well-established, behavioral modeling methods. This combination of such modeling methods together with ML learning tools produces agents that are both high performing and more likely to adhere to prescribed constraints. Furthermore, the resulting agents are more transparent and hence more maintainable. We demonstrate our technique by evaluating it on a case study from the domain of internet congestion control, and present promising results. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Agriculture, energy, mining, healthcare, and transportation are a few of the top industries transformed by the industrial internet of things (IIoT). Industry 4.0 mainly relies on machine learning (ML) to use the vast interconnectedness and large amounts of IIoT data that IIoT primarily drives. ML approaches are trained on confidential data generated by the IIoT environment often exposes privacy to adversarial assaults. Blockchain-based ML is established in the proposed secured IIoT research work to safeguard and enhance privacy. This research proposes a Gaussian differential privacy-integrated machine learning model (GDPIMLM), created for a scalable and controlled IIoT system, fully connected (FC) layer, implemented blockchain benefits to create a privacy-preserving mechanism while considering other limitations and reasonable time. A probability test using two altered Gaussian distributions (GD) forms the basis for defining Gaussian differential privacy (GDP). Due to a central restriction theorem for differential privacy, GDP is the primary privacy term within the family of Federal differential privacy (f-DP) policies. Ethereum is used to implement experimental evaluations. Data collections show that the recommended method enhances digital data privacy with industry-leading security without reducing performance. The performance analysis of the proposed model of secured industrial internet of things (IIoT) is studied using the accuracy of comparison with existing methods and for diverse distributed entities (DE). The proposed secured IIoT attains a minimal time consumption (TC) of 790 Sec—the highest accuracy of 92%, outperforming the existing method. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The multi-agent energy management system (EMS) is needed to coordinate multiple agents of a microgrid to provide efficient operation of the system. In this study, multi-agent EMS is seen as the middle controller between primary and tertiary control levels. It is responsible for determining the relevant set points based on data gathered from the tertiary control level and sending them to the appropriate primary control level agents. The main objective of this paper is to propose a new optimization model for multi-agent EMS to minimize errors between the forecasted and real-time data at every predetermined time interval. Rather than using a traditional centralized microgrid controller to determine the dispatch of resources, a new framework-based multi-agent coordination is proposed to achieve the following objectives: minimizing load shedding, maximizing load dispatch and reliability, providing frequency, and maintaining voltage stability. © 2023 IEEE.

The dynamic and uneven terrain of our environment introduces complexity for locomotion vehicles to navigate easily across different settings. Wheelchairs belong to the category of vehicles that require locomotion across various uneven terrains, such as stairs and other partitions. Therefore, the aim of this work is to design a wheel that can travel through various environments without using complex mechanisms. This aim was achieved by creating a novel transformable wheel. This wheel can turn into a legged wheel without using a complex mechanism and, when unnecessary, transform back into a normal wheel. Several simulations were carried out to understand the design's capability to overcome obstacles. In this case, the stair was the obstacle, and the results illustrated that the wheel is capable of climbing stairs without serious issues. Different parameters, such as speed and force, were examined with various values. The results showed that the weight on the wheelchair plays a significant role in climbing. For instance, with lighter weight, the structure moves without major slipping. The roughness of the surface is also related to the wheelchair's ability to reach the top of the stairs. A finer depth of cuts on the surface of the stairs increases the chance of the legged wheel firmly gripping and moving up the stairs. © 2025 IEEE.

The integration of information communication technology with the power grid exposes it to cyber threats. The network state estimation process provides stability to the smart grid. The communication network plays a major role in ensuring the successful transmission of state information. However, these network measurements are vulnerable to malicious attacks. This subsequently affects the network measurement such as associated high transmission delays and packet losses affecting the reliability of the smart grid. In this work, we propose a hybrid physics-based data-driven model that uses data fusion from the state-of-the-art physics-based Network State Estimation model and a data-driven model to detect false data injection attacks in the communication network layer of the smart grid. The performance of the data fusion method is evaluated and the simulation results show that the proposed model outperforms the standalone approaches in the detection of bad data. This shows that the proposed scheme is able to improve the cyber-physical security of the communication network layer of the smart grid.

This paper deals with the problem of detecting the malware by using emulation approach. Modern malware include various avoid techniques, to hide its anomaly actions. Advantages of using sandbox and emulation technologies are described. Various anti-emulation techniques that are used in modern malware considered. Obfuscation as one primary approach to hide malware malicious actions described and discussed. State of emulator is presented, and the advantages of its usage are covered. distributed model for malware detection is considered. Basic emulator and its current capabilities presented. Prepared files that represent malware are described. Experimental results for developed files that differs with included avoid techniques are presented. Job-dependent tool switching is necessary in many batch processing systems (BPSs). Heterogeneous tool demand and extra time consumption for tool switches bring great challenges for high-performance production scheduling in BPSs. In this study, we present a novel batch scheduling problem derived from a satellite vibration test system. Different from basic scheduling problems in BPSs with tool switching, it has complications caused by many-to-many task-tool matching and job release time constraints. Specifically, each job has predetermined candidate tools. One of them should be selected and equipped to process a given job. Unlike sequence-dependent setup time that is only related to two adjacent jobs, tool switching time is additionally dependent on the tools selected by both jobs from their respective candidate tools. Both job sequence and tool selections need to be determined to minimize makespan. Mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and constraint programming (CP) models are developed for formulating the problem. We prove that the problem is NP-hard. To obtain exact solutions, we propose a novel branch-and-bound algorithm (B&B) based on the analysis and extraction of problem properties. It integrates a domain reduction mechanism, branching strategies, and dominance rules. Among them, the domain reduction mechanism reduces the number of jobs to be scheduled;the branching strategies accelerate solving speed;and the dominance rules save the memory consumption. Ablation studies and key influencing factor experiments are performed. The results show that the proposed B&B can optimally solve much larger instances than state-of-the-art methods (including some heuristics). It can optimally solve industrial-size problems in a short time, implying that it can well satisfy the scheduling need of a satellite vibration test system and thus advance the field of BPS scheduling. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Internet of things (IoT) gadgets have transformed several industries, including engineering, medicine, and more, thanks to the meteoric rise in the number of connected smart devices. The core principle of using the Internet of Things is that it expedites the delivery of information while consuming very little energy. In a nutshell, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interconnected computing devices, services, and data that allows everyday objects to communicate with one another and with their physical environments. Prior to being saved on the server, all data sent across the IoT network must first be aggregated in the Queuing Telemetry Transport protocol (QTTP) broker. Access control, authorization, data storage, secrecy, authentication, system construction, and organization are some of the primary security concerns surrounding the Internet of Things (IoT). Three innovative security frameworks - RSA, Advanced Encryption Standard, and Elliptical Curve Cryptography - are created to enhance the protection of data in powered IoT devices. The security of IoT data is ensured by integrating all cryptic algorithms with the Constrained Queue Telemetry Transport Protocol (CQTTP). Data transmission from each IoT node undergoes cryptographic processes before being aggregated in the CQTTP. Exchange of key approvals, confirmation, and preservation of application data contrast are all accomplished by this cryptic action. Encryption keys are crucial to the safety of the data ix. The primary security component that reveals how many distinct key values a key in a protocol may take is the key's size. As a result, this study uses a new random key size method to give keys of varying sizes to the data sent by each node. Cryptography is harder when key sizes are set to be variable and random. In order to prevent script XSS commands and incorrect characteristics, all communications are encrypted using a technology that often permits employing TLS instead of plain TCP. Consequently

The deterioration of transmission lines has a profound effect on the reliability and safety of the power grid. Accurate estimation of their age is critical for effective maintenance and investment planning. This paper proposes a method that combines the percentage statistical health index (%SHI) with failure probability curve-fitting (FPCF) to estimate the ages of overhead transmission lines. %SHI assesses equipment condition through scoring and weighting, while FPCF correlates SHI with the probability of failure. Evaluation of 924 towers situated in various terrains across Thailand reveals discrepancies between estimated and actual ages, influenced by environmental factors. To enhance reliability, proactive maintenance strategies such as regular inspections and advanced monitoring are recommended. © 2024 The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers (KIEE).
