The Tamazight civilization stands as a significant cultural entity, marked by its linguistic diversity, historical legacy, and scriptural traditions, which collectively enrich the cultural tapestry of North Africa. Among these traditions, the Tamazight handwritten script assumes particular importance, embodying centuries of cultural identity and artistic expression. Recognizing the imperative of safeguarding this cultural heritage, our study focuses on Tamazight handwritten character recognition. Leveraging the strategic application of Transfer Learning, we explore its efficacy in this domain. Transfer Learning presents a robust framework wherein pre-existing models are adapted for specific tasks despite limited data availability. Our research employs three prominent Transfer Learning architectures: VGG, ResNet, and MobileNet. Through a rigorous comparative analysis, we discern the efficacy of these methodologies in the context of Tamazight handwritten character recognition. Our findings underscore the potential of Transfer Learning to significantly augment the accuracy and efficiency of script recognition systems, thereby advancing the overarching objective of preserving and propagating the Tamazight cultural heritage. © 2024 IOS Press. The paper presents an analysis of the problem of time series forecasting. The two most common forecasting methods, ARIMA and LSTM, are considered. Since these models independently predict linear and, accordingly, nonlinear dependencies in the best way, a hybrid model is considered using both initial methods in order to combine their strengths, improved by a genetic algorithm for automated model parameterization. A software implementation is built and advantages are described in relation to the original methods based on datasets with different trend, seasonal, non-linear components. In result, an integrative model was compared with ARIMA and LSTM models on 3 datasets and got better results by 6.33% and 8.36% respectively.

The classification of mango leaf diseases is critical for effective disease management and ensuring high-quality yields in mango cultivation. This paper presents a comprehensive study on using deep learning techniques to classify various mango leaf diseases, leveraging convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and hybrid models. A total of 7,524 images were used in our study. These included 4,000 training samples and 3,524 testing samples. The images were split into eight groups, which were powdery mildew, cutting weevil, anthracnose, bacterial canker, sooty mold, gall midge, healthy, and die back. The suggested method starts with feature extraction using VGG19 and MobileNetB1, then classification using both standalone models (ResNet50V2 + EfficientNetB1 and VGG16 + MobileNetB1). We employed data augmentation techniques like random brightness adjustment, rotation, and flipping to enhance the robustness of the model. We conducted hyperparameter tuning using hyperband and Bayesian optimization to optimize the model's performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the hybrid models achieved superior performance, with ResNet50V2 and EfficientNetB1 attaining a perfect accuracy of 100 % on the test set. These findings highlight the potential of deep learning techniques to improve the accuracy and reliability of mango leaf disease diagnosis, contributing significantly to the advancement of precision agriculture. © 2024 IEEE.

Fruit and Vegetable Recognition with Calorie Estimation based on Mobilenetv2 is a pioneering research endeavor aimed at leveraging deep learning techniques to enhance dietary monitoring and health management. Building upon the success of neural network models in various domains, this study explores the application of Mobilenetv2 and EfficientNet architecture for accurately identifying fruits and vegetables from images and estimating their respective caloric content. The research dataset comprises meticulously curated images of diverse fruits and vegetables, ensuring comprehensive coverage across different categories. Through rigorous experimentation and evaluation, the proposed model demonstrates remarkable accuracy in fruit and vegetable recognition, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 97.6%. Moreover, the incorporation of calorie estimation adds a novel dimension to dietary analysis, enabling users to make informed decisions regarding their nutritional intake. The findings of this research not only contribute to the advancement of computer vision techniques but also hold significant implications for personalized nutrition tracking and health- conscious applications.

Locality Sensitive Hash Aggregated Nonlinear Neighborhood Matrix Factorization for Online Sparse Big Data Analysis

Matrix factorization (MF) can extract the low-rank features and integrate the information of the data manifold distribution from high-dimensional data, which can consider the nonlinear neighborhood information. Thus, MF has drawn wide attention for low-rank analysis of sparse big data, e.g., Collaborative Filtering (CF) Recommender systems, Social Networks, and Quality of Service. However, the following two problems exist: (1) huge computational overhead for the construction of the Graph Similarity Matrix (GSM) and (2) huge memory overhead for the intermediate GSM. Therefore, GSM-based MF, e.g., kernel MF, graph regularized MF, and so on, cannot be directly applied to the low-rank analysis of sparse big data on cloud and edge platforms. To solve this intractable problem for sparse big data analysis, we propose Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH) aggregated MF (LSH-MF), which can solve the following problems: (1) The proposed probabilistic projection strategy of LSH-MF can avoid the construction of the GSM. Furthermore, LSH-MF can satisfy the requirement for the accurate projection of sparse big data. (2) To run LSH-MF for fine-grained parallelization and online learning on GPUs, we also propose CULSH-MF, which works on CUDA parallelization. Experimental results show that CULSH-MF can not only reduce the computational time and memory overhead but also obtain higher accuracy. Compared with deep learning models, CULSH-MF can not only save training time but also achieve the same accuracy performance. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

With the growing prevalence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, IoT cloud platforms have become increasingly vital in the ecosystem that allows heterogeneous IoT devices to be accessed and managed by a wide range of IoT applications. IoT applications are typically hosted on dedicated application servers within the cloud platforms and offer intelligent automation, control, and management features for all connected IoT devices. However, we found that IoT devices can be attacked if the development environment is compromised. In this paper, we conduct the first systematic study on the security risks of IoT cloud platforms that are introduced by compromised development environments. We discover three novel attacks that can invoke commands on the IoT devices, initiate malicious IoT firmware update, and get access to the IoT devices through secure tunneling. We confirm the feasibility of these attacks on mainstream commercial IoT cloud platforms, including Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, Samsung SmartThings, IBM Watson IoT, and Google IoT, demonstrating their potential to impact a large number of devices. Our work leads to the creation of CVE-2023-38372 by IBM.

In today's connected and data-driven world, networks and digital systems need to be protected from malicious attacks. The effectiveness of conventional Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) in recognizing and impeding novel threats and intricate methodologies has its limits. This study introduces a new method for improving network security by using deep learning techniques in the design and development of an intrusion detection system (IDS). The suggested Intrusion Detection System uses deep learning techniques, specifically Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), to identify and react to known and new security threats. Data can be taught to be encoded into a lower-dimensional representation and then decoded back into its original form using autoencoders (AEs). Autoencoders are a cutting-edge intrusion detection system that can lower false positives and raise overall detection accuracy because of their capacity to automatically learn from and adjust to the ever-changing threat landscape. They enhance computer networks capacity to spot irregularities and possible security threats. With the deep learning model obtaining a high accuracy of 99% in real-world threat detection, the results show that deep learning is effective in developing intrusion detection systems.

An important challenge for smart grid security is designing a secure and robust smart grid communications architecture to protect against cyber-threats, such as Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, that can adversely impact the operation of the power grid. Researchers have proposed using software Defined Network frameworks to enhance cybersecurity of the smart grid, but there is a lack of benchmarking and comparative analyses among the many techniques. In this work, a distributed three-controller software-defined networking (D3-SDN) architecture, benchmarking, and comparative analysis with other techniques is presented. The selected distributed flat SDN architecture divides the network horizontally into multiple areas or clusters, where each cluster is handled by a single Open Network Operating System (ONOS) controller. A case study using the IEEE 118-bus system is provided to compare the performance of the presented ONOS-managed D3-SDN, against the POX controller. In addition, the proposed architecture outperforms a single SDN controller framework by a tenfold increase in throughput; a reduction in latency of > 20%; and an increase in throughput of approximately 11% during the DoS attack scenarios.

This paper reviews the use of Minikube in multi-node mode to work with the ETSI MEC Sandbox as a lightweight multi-access edge computing platform simulator (LWMECPS). The work included a comparative analysis of MEC platforms in terms of functionality, cost of deployment, and complexity of adoption. An experiment was also conducted to test LWMECPS as a MEC platform using a Python3 test application. The experiment confirmed the feasibility of using LWMECPS as a MEC platform by deploying a Kubernetes deployment based on the number of users on the simulated 4g-macro network service zones from the ETSI MEC Sandbox. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of existing scientific literature on the use of multi-access edge computing platforms in various use cases. © 2023 IEEE.
