Federated learning (FL), as a powerful learning paradigm, trains a shared model by aggregating model updates from distributed clients. However, the decoupling of model learning from local data makes FL highly vulnerable to backdoor attacks, where a single compromised client can poison the shared model. While recent progress has been made in backdoor detection, existing methods face challenges with detection accuracy and runtime effectiveness, particularly when dealing with complex model architectures. In this work, we propose a novel approach to detecting malicious clients in an accurate, stable, and efficient manner. Our method utilizes a sampling-based network representation method to quantify dissimilarities between clients, identifying model deviations caused by backdoor injections. We also propose an iterative algorithm to progressively detect and exclude malicious clients as outliers based on these dissimilarity measurements. Evaluations across a range of benchmark tasks demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods in detection accuracy and defense effectiveness. Machine learning for education is an emerging discipline where a model is developed based on training data to make predictions on students’ performance. The main aim is to identify students who would have difficulty in their learning and to take precautionary measures to help them. In this paper, we conduct a comparative analysis of the most used machine learning classification models in the literature. We evaluate the performance of the models in terms of accuracy, F-measure, and execution time using two real-life education datasets. The performance of the models is data-driven. We give insights into the models’ performance and advise on the best model to use accordingly. Based on the apparatus of fractional integro-differentiation, a mathematical model of moisture transport in media with a fractal structure is considered for both one-dimensional and two-dimensional cases. A new convolutional learning architecture, based on existing data, is proposed for numerical modeling and behavior assessment of the dynamic process. This architecture is grounded in the fractal Euler method and the finite difference method. Initial and boundary conditions are tightly integrated into the network architecture, and residual connections, which explicitly model time progression and account for the fractional order of the time derivative, further enhance the model. Numerical results obtained using the developed software confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of solution accuracy.

An independent industrial system may transform into a connected network through the assistance of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The deployed sensors in the IIoT maintain surveillance of the industrial machinery and equipment. As a result, safety and reliability emerge as the primary concerns in IIoT. This presents a variety of well-known and increasing issues related to the industrial system. The IIoT devices are exposed to a wide range of malware, threats, and assaults. To prevent the IIoT devices from malware effects, effective protection plans must be implemented. But adequate security mechanisms are not be incorporated in IIoT devices with limited resources. It is essential to ensure the accuracy and dependability of information gathered by IIoT devices. Decisions taken with incomplete or inaccurate data might be devastating. To overcome these difficulties deep learning with reinforcement learning for complex decision-making in industry applications is developed in this research work. In this developed model, an Adaptive Deep Reinforcement learning (ADRL)-based resource management is performed to reduce the operation cost associated with IIoT deployments. Energy efficiency is essential in IIoT ecosystem, particularly for the devices that run on batteries. Through dynamic resource allocation based on workload needs and energy limits, ADRL-based resource management optimizes the usage of energy. The reliability of the designed model is enhanced by fine-tuning the parameters from DRL using the Ship Rescue Optimization (SRO) algorithm. Thus, ADRL-based resource management systems make real-time decisions based on current environmental conditions and system requirements. This helps the IIoT systems to react quickly to change demands and optimize resource allocation. In Ad customization, several approaches are employed to improve the relevance level of the message for monitoring the user performance according to the prior search history (e.g., retargeting) or by gathering particular information related to the customer (e.g., micro-targeting). Occasionally, the consumers view the ad developed by the other user, in this situation, the ads are viewed as something that can be related by the user. The quantity of information that is gathered openly or secretly can affect the user choice for the content displayed. However, the users remain as recipients of a strategy, that decides the best ad content. Therefore, an exploring Generative Artificial Intelligence-based Dynamic Ad Customization model for enhancing viewer engagement from streaming media is developed. In this paper, the Generative Long Short-Term Memory (GenLSTM) model is developed for examining customized advertising then includes the customization of specific message elements by individuals, variation in the level of ad customization, and in some cases perceived collaboration with others. Here, the customization classification is defined based on the modification in the marketing mix element that is created by the customer proactively as opposed to the company. In regards to customized advertising, “ad is something that happens with the viewer”. The customization increases based on the sense of task engagement, strength of the perceived customer relationship with the company, attitude toward the ad, and perceptions of company trust/integrity. Finally, the experimental analysis is conducted based on the relationship with the company, company care, company trust, and task engagement to attain the overall impact on ad customization.

The rapid evolution of communication networks in recent decades has intensified the need for advanced Network and Service Management (NSM) strategies to address the growing demands for efficiency, scalability, enhanced performance, and reliability of these networks. Large Language Models (LLMs) have received tremendous attention due to their unparalleled capabilities in various Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks and generating context-aware insights, offering transformative potential for automating diverse communication NSM tasks. Contrasting existing surveys that consider a single network domain, this survey investigates the integration of LLMs across different communication network domains, including mobile networks and related technologies, vehicular networks, cloud-based networks, and fog/edge-based networks. First, the survey provides foundational knowledge of LLMs, explicitly detailing the generic transformer architecture, general-purpose and domain-specific LLMs, LLM model pre-training and fine-tuning, and their relation to communication NSM. Under a novel taxonomy of network monitoring and reporting, AI-powered network planning, network deployment and distribution, and continuous network support, we extensively categorize LLM applications for NSM tasks in each of the different network domains, exploring existing literature and their contributions thus far. Then, we identify existing challenges and open issues, as well as future research directions for LLM-driven communication NSM, emphasizing the need for scalable, adaptable, and resource-efficient solutions that align with the dynamic landscape of communication networks. We envision that this survey serves as a holistic roadmap, providing critical insights for leveraging LLMs to enhance NSM. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

We consider single-phase flow with solute transport where ions in the fluid can precipitate and form a mineral, and where the mineral can dissolve and release solute into the fluid. Such a setting includes an evolving interface between fluid and mineral. We approximate the evolving interface with a diffuse interface, which is modeled with an Allen-Cahn equation. We also include effects from temperature such that the reaction rate can depend on temperature, and allow heat conduction through fluid and mineral. As Allen-Cahn is generally not conservative due to curvature-driven motion, we include a reformulation that is conservative. This reformulation includes a non-local term which makes the use of standard Newton iterations for solving the resulting non-linear system of equations very slow. We instead apply L-scheme iterations, which can be proven to converge for any starting guess, although giving only linear convergence. The three coupled equations for diffuse interface, solute transport and heat transport are solved via an iterative coupling scheme. This allows the three equations to be solved more efficiently compared to a monolithic scheme, and only few iterations are needed for high accuracy. Network communication has been proven to be a very important tool and a key factor in the recent development and progress of the power grid operation. It is also considered as the foundation for the smart grid because information and communication are integrated into electricity distribution to achieve reliable and accurate knowledge of the power grid. In previous years, absorbing energy from substations and delivering it to customers was the only type of interaction we knew between utility companies and customers. Presently, the growing connections of small distributed generation units caused by the cost reduction of most of the technologies used in the generation and storage of electrical energy, along with the potential benefits of renewable energy have pushed many researchers to look into the improvement of information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to ensure a bidirectional flow of power and data. Moreover, the evolution of information and communication technologies and its applications to smart grid have converted the smart grid into a cyber-physical system where vulnerabilities and additional security challenges such as cyber-threats and cyber-attacks have emerged. Previously, we have demonstrated that using machine learning-based processing on data gathered from communication networks and the power grid was a promising solution for detecting cyber threats by implementing a co-simulation of cyber-security for cross-layer strategy. Since the majority of the challenges observed can only be solved in the network communication layer, we present in this work a physics-based state estimation model of the communication network system towards enhanced cyber-physical security of the smart grid. Recently, there is a substantial interest in on-device Machine Learning (ML) models to provide intelligence for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as image classification, human activity recognition, and anomaly detection. Traditionally, ML models are deployed in the cloud or centralized servers to take advantage of their abundant computational resources. However, sharing data with the cloud and third parties degrades privacy and may cause propagation delay in the network due to a large amount of transmitted data impacting the performance of real-time applications. To this end, deploying ML models on-device (i.e., on IoT devices), in which data does not need to be transmitted, becomes imperative. However, deploying and running ML models on already resource-constrained IoT devices is challenging and requires intense energy consumption. Numerous works have been proposed in the literature to address this issue. Although there are considerable works that discuss energy-aware ML approaches for on-device implementation, there remains a gap in the literature on a comprehensive review of this subject. In this paper, we provide a review of existing studies focusing on-device ML models for IoT applications in terms of energy consumption. One of the key contributions of this study is to introduce a taxonomy to define approaches for employing energyaware on-device ML models on IoT devices in the literature. Based on our review in this paper, our key findings are provided and the open issues that can be investigated further by other researchers are discussed. We believe that this study will be a reference for practitioners and researchers who want to employ energy-aware on-device ML models for IoT applications. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
