An infrastructure software perspective toward computation offloading between executable specifications and foundation models

Foundation models(FMs) [1] have revolutionized software development and become the core components of large software systems. This paradigm shift, however, demands fundamental re-imagining of software engineering theories and methodologies [2]. Instead of replacing existing software modules implemented by symbolic logic, incorporating FMs' capabilities to build software systems requires entirely new modules that leverage the unique capabilities of ***, while FMs excel at handling uncertainty, recognizing patterns, and processing unstructured data, we need new engineering theories that support the paradigm shift from explicitly programming and maintaining user-defined symbolic logic to creating rich, expressive requirements that FMs can accurately perceive and implement.

A survey on cross-user federated recommendation

Recommender systems are effective in mitigating information overload, yet the centralized storage of user data raises significant privacy concerns. Cross-user federated recommendation(CUFR) provides a promising distributed paradigm to address these concerns by enabling privacy-preserving recommendations directly on user devices. In this survey, we review and categorize current progress in CUFR, focusing on four key aspects: privacy, security, accuracy, and efficiency. Firstly,we conduct an in-depth privacy analysis, discuss various cases of privacy leakage, and then review recent methods for privacy protection. Secondly, we analyze security concerns and review recent methods for untargeted and targeted *** untargeted attack methods, we categorize them into data poisoning attack methods and parameter poisoning attack methods. For targeted attack methods, we categorize them into user-based methods and item-based methods. Thirdly,we provide an overview of the federated variants of some representative methods, and then review the recent methods for improving accuracy from two categories: data heterogeneity and high-order information. Fourthly, we review recent methods for improving training efficiency from two categories: client sampling and model compression. Finally, we conclude this survey and explore some potential future research topics in CUFR.

Skeleton-Aware Graph-Based Adversarial Networks for Human Pose Estimation from Sparse IMUs

Recently, sparse-inertial human pose estimation (SI-HPE) with only a few IMUs has shown great potential in various fields. The most advanced work in this area achieved fairish results using only six IMUs. However, there are still two major issues that remain to be addressed. First, existing methods typically treat SI-HPE as a temporal sequential learning problem and often ignore the important spatial prior of skeletal topology. Second, there are far more synthetic data in their training data than real data, and the data distribution of synthetic data and real data is quite different, which makes it difficult for the model to be applied to more diverse real data. To address these issues, we propose "Graph-based Adversarial Inertial Poser (GAIP),"which tracks body movements using sparse data from six IMUs. To make full use of the spatial prior, we design a multi-stage pose regressor with graph convolution to explicitly learn the skeletal topology. A joint position loss is also introduced to implicitly mine spatial information. To enhance the generalization ability, we propose supervising the pose regression with an adversarial loss from a discriminator, bringing the ability of adversarial networks to learn implicit constraints into full play. Additionally, we construct a real dataset that includes hip support movements and a synthetic dataset containing various motion categories to enrich the diversity of inertial data for SI-HPE. Extensive experiments demonstrate that GAIP produces results with more precise limb movement amplitudes and relative joint positions, accompanied by smaller joint angle and position errors compared to state-of-the-art counterparts. Enhancing Voice Phishing Detection Using Multilingual Back-Translation and SMOTE: An Empirical Study

With the widespread global trend of voice phishing or vishing attacks, the development of effective detection models using artificial intelligence (AI) has been hindered by the lack of high-quality and large volumes of data. This lack of data reflecting a real vishing scenario often leads to imbalanced datasets and biased detection models. Therefore, we present in this paper a data augmentation (DA) method for expanding the imbalanced Korean call content vishing (KorCCVi) dataset to address the existing data asymmetry problem and enhance the performance of Korean vishing detection. The proposed approach for DA involves using the back-translation (BT) method with three different intermediate languages: English, Chinese, and Japanese. The proposed method offers several advantages over the traditional synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE), which is the main technique used to compare with our multilingual BT approach. Using these two DA techniques, several machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models were trained on the original imbalanced dataset, the dataset balanced with SMOTE and its variants, and the dataset augmented with our method. We analyzed the impact of these DA methods on the performance of the models, demonstrated the benefits of each approach, and suggested the most suitable approach. The performance of the trained models was evaluated using the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed multilingual BT method effectively expands the dataset while preserving its contextual and linguistic characteristics. The average performance of the models revealed that those trained on the augmented dataset outperformed the other models. They achieved F1-scores of 98.91% for the back-translated data, 98.14% for the original data, and 97.23% for SMOTE. © 2025 The Authors. Data-driven output regulation control for constrained linear systems

This study introduces a data-driven approach for state and output feedback control addressing the constrained output regulation problem in unknown linear discrete-time systems. Our method ensures effective tracking performance while satisfying the state and input constraints, even when system matrices are not available. We first establish a sufficient condition necessary for the existence of a solution pair to the regulator equation and propose a data-based approach to obtain the feedforward and feedback control gains for state feedback control using linear programming. Furthermore, we design a refined Luenberger observer to accurately estimate the system state, while keeping the estimation error within a predefined set. By combining output regulation theory, we develop an output feedback control strategy. The stability of the closed-loop system is rigorously proved to be asymptotically stable by further leveraging the concept of λ-contractive sets.

Fuzzy clustering for electric field characterization and its application to thunderstorm interpretability

Changes in the Atmospheric Electric Field Signal(AEFS) are highly correlated with weather changes, especially with thunderstorm activities. However, little attention has been paid to the ambiguous weather information implicit in AEFS changes. In this paper, a Fuzzy C-Means(FCM) clustering method is used for the first time to develop an innovative approach to characterize the weather attributes carried by AEFS. First, a time series dataset is created in the time domain using AEFS attributes. The AEFS-based weather is evaluated according to the time-series Membership Degree(MD) changes obtained by inputting this dataset into the FCM. Second, thunderstorm intensities are reflected by the change in distance from a thunderstorm cloud point charge to an AEF apparatus. Thus, a matching relationship is established between the normalized distance and the thunderstorm dominant MD in the space domain. Finally, the rationality and reliability of the proposed method are verified by combining radar charts and expert experience. The results confirm that this method accurately characterizes the weather attributes and changes in the AEFS, and a negative distance-MD correlation is obtained for the first time. The detection of thunderstorm activity by AEF from the perspective of fuzzy set technology provides a meaningful guidance for interpretable thunderstorms.

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. Giving to the findings, our method exceeds state-of-the-art facial recognition systems in terms of recognition accuracy and resilience. Cloud computing involves accessing and using computing resources, such as servers, storage, and software applications, over the Internet, enabling scalable access on demand. Cloud computing systems are becoming an essential platform for scientific applications. They enable task scheduling and IT resource allocation. When these resources are not enough to meet demand, planning techniques are necessary. We propose to apply an improved ACO algorithm for intelligent task scheduling and appropriate resource allocation in a cloud environment. This work proposes a modified version of the ACO algorithm that can quickly converge to the best solution to further optimize the total response time, the average response time and the total execution cost. The algorithm suggested based on artificial intelligence application of enhanced ACO is compared with the classical ACO algorithm using Cloudsim simulator. A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.
