Recommendation systems-based software requirements elicitation process—a systematic literature review

Requirements elicitation is one of the fundamental sub-processes of requirements engineering which is used to find the needs of stakeholders. There are several activities in this sub-process, i.e., identification of stakeholders and their requirements, software requirements prioritization, and analysis. Recommendation systems have been intertwined with the requirements elicitation process to predict the stakeholders’ requirements based on their preferences for functional and non-functional requirements. A number of systematic literature reviews (SLRs) have been carried out in the area of requirements elicitation. These SLRs do not support the applications of the recommendation systems during the requirements elicitation process. To deal with this issue, we present an SLR on recommendation systems-based software requirements elicitation processes, from 2009 to 2022, undertaking four research questions: (a) What are the different activities of the software requirements elicitation methods? (b) What are the applications of recommendation systems in the identification of the software requirements? (c) How the recommendation systems can facilitate the identification of stakeholders in the requirements elicitation process? (d) What are the ways to automate the selection of requirements elicitation techniques? The aim of this study is to identify the research gaps in the area of recommendation systems-based requirements elicitation processes and suggest future research directions. © 2024, The Author(s).

Crowds can lead up to severe disasterous consequences resulting in fatalities. Videos obtained through public cameras or captured by drones flying overhead can be processed with artificial intelligence-based crowd analysis systems. Being a hot area of research over the past few years, the goal is not only to identify the presence of crowds but also to predict the probability of crowd-formation in order to issue timely warnings and preventive measures. Such systems will significantly reduce the probablity of the potential disasters. Developing effective systems is a challenging task, especially due to factors such as naturally occuring diverse conditions, variations in people or background pixel areas, noise, behaviors of individuals, relative amounts/distributions/directions of crowd movements, and crowd building reasons. This paper proposes an infrared video processing system based on U-Net convolutional neural network for crowd monitoring in infrared video frames to help estimate the people crowd with normal or abnormal trends. The proposed U-Net architecture aims to efficiently extract crowd features, achieve sufficient people marking-up accuracy, competitively with optimal network configurations in terms of the depth and number of filters to consequently minimise the number of coefficients. For further faster processing, hardware resources/implementation area savings, and lower power, the optimized network coefficients measured are represented in Canonic-Signed Digit with minimal number of nonzero (± 1) digits, minimizing the number of underlying shift-add/subtract operations of all multipliers. The achieved significantly reduced computational cost makes the proposed U-Net effectively suitable for resource-constrained and low power applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The availability of important characteristics such as decentralization, permanence, anonymity, and audacity has driven interest in blockchain technology more recently than ever before. This technology has been employed in a variety of applications, including education. Therefore, this research is a systematic review of research that investigates the applications of blockchain technology in higher education institutions in addition to those that present the role of this technology in combating the Corona pandemic, as it focuses on the following main topics: (1) blockchain-based applications and systems that can be used in higher education institutions;and (2) the current state of blockchain challenges in this area that need to be addressed in the future. A detailed analysis of the results of each topic as well as an extensive discussion were conducted based on the results. This review also provides insight into other areas that could benefit from blockchain technology during and after the pandemic. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, machine learning (ML) has attained a high level of achievement in many contexts. Considering the significance of ML in medical and bioinformatics owing to its accuracy, many investigators discussed multiple solutions for developing the function of medical and bioinformatics challenges using deep learning (DL) techniques. The importance of DL in Internet of Things (IoT)-based bio- and medical informatics lies in its ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of complex and diverse data in real time, providing insights that can improve healthcare outcomes and increase efficiency in the healthcare industry. Several applications of DL in IoT-based bio- and medical informatics include diagnosis, treatment recommendation, clinical decision support, image analysis, wearable monitoring, and drug discovery. The review aims to comprehensively evaluate and synthesize the existing body of the literature on applying deep learning in the intersection of the IoT with bio- and medical informatics. In this paper, we categorized the most cutting-edge DL solutions for medical and bioinformatics issues into five categories based on the DL technique utilized: convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network, generative adversarial network, multilayer perception, and hybrid methods. A systematic literature review was applied to study each one in terms of effective properties, like the main idea, benefits, drawbacks, methods, simulation environment, and datasets. After that, cutting-edge research on DL approaches and applications for bioinformatics concerns was emphasized. In addition, several challenges that contributed to DL implementation for medical and bioinformatics have been addressed, which are predicted to motivate more studies to develop medical and bioinformatics research progressively. One of the highly focused areas in the medical science community is segmenting tumors from brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The diagnosis of malignant tumors at an early stage is necessary to provide treatment for patients. The patient’s prognosis will improve if it is detected early. Medical experts use a manual method of segmentation when making a diagnosis of brain tumors. This study proposes a new approach to simplify and automate this process. In recent research, multi-level segmentation has been widely used in medical image analysis, and the effectiveness and precision of the segmentation method are directly tied to the number of segments used. However, choosing the appropriate number of segments is often left up to the user and is challenging for many segmentation algorithms. The proposed method is a modified version of the 3D Histogram-based segmentation method, which can automatically determine an appropriate number of segments. The general algorithm contains three main steps: The first step is to use a Gaussian filter to smooth the 3D RGB histogram of an image. This eliminates unreliable and non-dominating histogram peaks that are too close together. Next, a multimodal particle swarm optimization method identifies the histogram’s peaks. In the end, pixels are placed in the cluster that best fits their characteristics based on the non-Euclidean distance. The proposed algorithm has been applied to a Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) and brain MRI Images for brain Tumor detection dataset. The results of the proposed method are compared with those of three clustering methods: FCM, FCM_FWCW, and FCM_FW. In the comparative analysis of the three algorithms across various MRI slices. Our algorithm consistently demonstrates superior performance. It achieves the top mean rank in all three metrics, indicating its robustness and effectiveness in clustering. RandoMix: a mixed sample data augmentation method with multiple mixed modes

Data augmentation plays a crucial role in enhancing the robustness and performance of machine learning models across various domains. In this study, we introduce a novel mixed-sample data augmentation method called RandoMix. RandoMix is specifically designed to simultaneously address robustness and diversity challenges. It leverages a combination of linear and mask mixed modes, introducing flexibility in candidate selection and weight adjustments. We evaluate the effectiveness of RandoMix on diverse datasets, including CIFAR-10/100, Tiny-ImageNet, ImageNet, and Google Speech Commands. Our results demonstrate its superior erformance compared to existing techniques such as Mixup, CutMix, Fmix, and ResizeMix. Notably, RandoMix excels in enhancing model robustness against adversarial noise, natural noise, and sample occlusion. The comprehensive experimental results and insights into parameter tuning underscore the potential of RandoMix as a versatile and effective data augmentation method. Dialogue policy trains an agent to select dialogue actions frequently implemented via deep reinforcement learning (DRL). The model-based reinforcement methods built a world model to generate simulated data to alleviate the sample inefficiency. However, traditional world model methods merely consider one-step dialogues, leading to an inaccurate environmental simulation. Furthermore, different users may have different intention preferences, while most existing studies lack consideration of the intention-preferences causal relationship. This paper proposes a novel framework for dialogue policy learning named MCA, implemented through model-based reinforcement learning with automatically constructed causal chains. The MCA model utilizes an autoregressive Transformer to model dialogue trajectories, enabling a more accurate simulation of the environment. Additionally, it constructs a causal chains module that outputs latent preference distributions for intention-action pairs, thereby elucidating the relationship between user intentions and agent actions. The experimental results show that MCA can achieve state-of-the-art performances on three dialogue datasets over the compared dialogue agents, highlighting its effectiveness and robustness. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Performing an object detection task after the restoration of a hazy image, or rather detecting with the network backbone directly, will result in the inclusion of information mixed with dehazing, which tends to interfere with detection performance. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework for detecting objects in dehazed images via Dual Cross-Stage Partial Learning (DCSP). Specifically, we introduce a Cross-Stage Partial (CSP) module for extracting clean feature information after dehazing. Secondly, to enhance data integrity, we employ a skip-input strategy to supplement information related to object detection features that may be lost during the dehazing task, while avoiding the gradient vanishing problem. In addition, CSP is also introduced to facilitate comprehensive learning of multiple feature representations. Finally, to avoid the inclusion of irrelevant dehazing information in detection, we apply a Ground-Truth Flow at detection network (at dark3), for fine feature information calibration. Additionally, we created a synthetic fog dataset to expand the training data for DCSP. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The code is available at https://***/zhaojinbiao/DCSP. © 2024 IEEE.

Programmers frequently reuse exiting code available on internet sources like GitHub and Stack Overflow. Usually, programmers search for relevant/desired code by using natural language queries through search engines. However, the reusable code is very different from the normal textual searches. The main aim of code retrieval is to search for the most relevant snippet from a corpus of code snippets. The only way to efficiently retrieve the most relevant results is to eliminate the semantic gap between the code snippets and the user's query (Natural language description) search in the repository. Bridging this gap is an immense challenge. The primary objective of the research is to retrieve code snippets that are semantically relevant to the user query and to provide programmers with the ability to locate source code that they can use when developing new applications. The proposed approach is implemented using a web platform through which users can search source code. In this research, a semantic model for code retrieval is used which generates meanings or synonyms of the words. The proposed model integrates Ontologies and Natural Language Processing. The proposed approach is evaluated on the dataset extracted from Stack Overflow. The performance measures and classification accuracy are computed using Mean Average Precision. The retrieved results are ranked using Levenshtein similarity, demonstrating that our approach outperforms a robust component matching significantly. Our evaluation shows that the use of semantic matching leads to improve retrieval effectiveness. This study marks a substantial advancement in the integration of programming expertise with code retrieval techniques. Moreover, this system enables users to know when and how it is used for successful semantic searching. © 2022 IEEE.
