Metamorphic testing (MT) is an effective software quality assurance method;it uses metamorphic relations (MRs) to examine the inputs and outputs of multiple test cases. Metamorphic exploration (ME) and metamorphic robustness testing (MRT) are advanced additions to the MT literature: ME can enable better understanding, and thus testing, of systems;MRT can test software robustness without an oracle. Metamorphic relation patterns (MRPs) are abstractions or templates for multiple concrete MRs. The performance of MT/ME/MRT relies on the quality of MRs, but the identification of MRs is often a manual task requiring some knowledge of MRPs, creative thinking and a good understanding of the system. In other words, the effective identification of MRs remains a challenge and requires further study. In this paper, we propose formal definitions to describe the relationship between multiple MRPs in order to classify them. We also identify a series of new MRPs and propose a new MT framework that can guide the identification and application of MRPs. Based on our definitions, we present the notion of MRP family trees and further propose two trees by classifying previously published MRPs and our proposed MRPs, in order to make it easier for users to find their target MRPs for reuse, reference or inference. Finally, we report on case studies using the MRPs and our framework to guide the identification of MRs for MT/ME/MRT and successfully detect multiple violations. © 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Requirements Elicitation is the process of identifying system needs by talking with stakeholders who have a direct or indirect effect on the requirements. Requirements may be derived from several sources and are one of the most important phases of requirement engineering. We need to perform different elicitation techniques to find out the user's needs. Pre-requirements tracing is the process of determining the origins of a specific demand. Typically, certain needs arise that have no apparent source, but stakeholders will testify to their importance. Such criteria, however, are most likely dependent on tacit or tacit-like information entrenched in the issue domain. Tacit knowledge is one of the most common challenges for requirement analysts. This study contributes to constructing a systematic literature review for exploring multiple ways to model functional requirements using tacit knowledge. We have identified and analyzed 10 studies. In these research papers, different authors have discussed different methods to gather functional requirements from tacit knowledge. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed agile development comes with a lot of challenges in particular as it has to do with agile teams working together from different geological locations on the same project. Most probably it happens due to a lack of visibility in the complex development and deployment process, poor communication, and unavailability of the development team and corresponding customer in the same place. These factors affect the performance of the team and increase the overall cost of development. To mitigate all these aspects, we proposed a cloud computing-based Infrastructure which is a combination of both agile as well as cloud computing technology named 'CBAI'. The proposed Infrastructure assists the team members to work efficiently even if they are different geo-locations without burdening the cost. It provides the basic structure for global agile development and is also efficient in reducing the technical liability, and the need for project backlog. © 2023 IEEE.

In healthcare, accessing diverse and large datasets for machine learning poses challenges due to data privacy concerns. Federated learning (FL) addresses this by training models on decentralized data while preserving privacy. We propose PruneFL, a FL paradigm that leverages model pruning to reduce complexity and enhance efficiency. PruneFL strikes a balance between model accuracy and efficiency by reducing parameters, accelerating convergence, and minimizing communication overhead. Our approach addresses critical FL challenges and demonstrates efficacy in resource-constrained environments like healthcare. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Vanilla image completion approaches exhibit sensitivity to large missing regions, attributed to the limited availability of reference information for plausible generation. To mitigate this, existing methods incorporate the extra cue as a guidance for image completion. Despite improvements, these approaches are often restricted to employing a single modality (e.g., segmentation or sketch maps), which lacks scalability in leveraging multi-modality for more plausible completion. In this paper, we propose a novel, simple yet effective method for Multi-modal Guided Image Completion, dubbed MaGIC, which not only supports a wide range of single modality as the guidance (e.g., text, canny edge, sketch, segmentation, depth, and pose), but also adapts to arbitrarily customized combination of these modalities (i.e., arbitrary multi-modality) for image completion. For building MaGIC, we first introduce a modality-specific conditional U-Net (MCU-Net) that injects single-modal signals into a U-Net denoiser for single-modal guided image completion. Then, we devise a consistent modality blending (CMB) method to leverage modality signals encoded in multiple learned MCU-Nets through gradient guidance in latent space. Our CMB is training-free, thereby avoiding the cumbersome joint re-training of different modalities, which is the secret of MaGIC to achieve exceptional flexibility in accommodating new modalities for completion. Experiments show the superiority of MaGIC over state-of-the-art methods and its generalization to various completion tasks. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. Air quality forecasting is critical for environmental monitoring and public health, and in this study, we propose a hybrid approach utilizing Gooseneck Barnacle Optimization (GBO) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to enhance predictive accuracy. The air quality dataset, comprising pollutant concentrations (CO, NOx, benzene) and meteorological factors (temperature, humidity), is sourced from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. GBO is employed to fine-tune the ANN's hyperparameters (especially the weight and bias), as well as the number of layers, neurons, and activation functions, to improve regression-based forecasting. The GBOANN model achieves a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.562 and a Root Mean Squared Percentage Error (RMSPE) of 5.63%, outperforming other metaheuristic methods like BMO, SSA, DA, MVO, and EMA. This study demonstrates the GBO-ANN model's potential for accurate real-time air quality forecasting, offering a robust, sustainable solution. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents a multimodal interaction system designed for speech-based autism intervention in Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan children, utilizing the NAO robot. The system integrates four components, language content detection, dialog management, voice synthesis, and gesture synthesis, to create an engaging and adaptive therapeutic environment. By leveraging these technologies, the system provides real-time, personalized responses that align with the cultural and linguistic needs of Sinhala-speaking children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The NAO robot facilitates natural and supportive interaction through synchronized speech and gestures, aiming to improve communication and social skills in children with ASD. Preliminary evaluations demonstrate the potential of the system to enhance engagement and responsiveness in therapy sessions, marking a significant step forward in developing specialized interventions for autism in non-Western, non-English-speaking contexts. © 2024 IEEE.

In smaller components of industrial or energy automation systems, such as device controllers of Protection and Control (PAC) systems in smart grids, controller functionality is tightly coupled with the physical device or sensor capabilities. At this level, software is small and therefore easy to maintain and test. However, when multiple controllers are interconnected and higher-level functionality is added, software applications grow exponentially, and ensuring maintainability becomes proportionally challenging. In this paper, we extend the IEC 61499 reference architecture used to develop industrial automation software with the principles of Abstraction Layered Architecture (ALA) that has shown up to 400% improvements in industrial software maintainability. We show that even a light application of abstraction layering on the top, application-level of IEC 61499 applications makes them significantly more readable and slightly more maintainable. More concrete gains in maintainability are expected when abstraction layering is integrated into lower layers. © 2024 IEEE.
