Influence of donor age on liver transplantation outcomes: A multivariate analysis and comparative study

Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have demonstrated promising optimization performance in addressing expensive dynamic optimization problems or expensive multimodal optimization problems. However, none of existing SAEAs are designed specifically for tackling expensive dynamic multimodal optimization problems (EDMMOPs). Therefore, in this paper, a first SAEA for tackling EDMMOPs is proposed. First, a nearest density clustering is designed to divide the population into a number of subpopulations, enhancing the diversity of the population. Then, a surrogate-assisted evolutionary optimizer is developed to construct surrogate models for each subpopulation and evolve all solutions in subpopulations by means of the built surrogate models, accelerating the population's converge towards several optimal solutions rapidly. Finally, a transfer learning-based prediction is devised to generate initial samples for next environment by leveraging the stored training samples in the previous environments. To assess the performance of our proposed algorithm, a set of complex benchmark problems is adopted, and the experimental results confirm its superior performance over several competitive algorithms on most test cases. © 2024 IEEE.

Edge computing is regarded as an extension of cloud computing that brings computing and storage resources to the network edge. For some Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications such as supply-chain supervision and collaboration, Internet of Vehicles, real-time video analysis and so forth, users should be authenticated before visiting the geographically distributed edge servers. Limited by the considerable latency between the cloud and edge servers, and the limited capacity of edge servers, it is infeasible to copy the authentication method from cloud servers when users are authenticated in edge servers. In view of this challenge, this paper proposes a novel token-based authentication scheme, named EdgeAuth, that enables fast edge user authentication through collaboration among cloud servers and edge servers. Under the EdgeAuth scheme, edge servers can rapidly verify the credentials of users who have been authenticated by the cloud server. EdgeAuth can also protect users from a series of authentication attacks, for example, the replay attack, DoS attack and man-in-the-middle attack. The results of experiments conducted on a simulated edge computing environment validate the usefulness of EdgeAuth through a comparison in latency and throughput against two baseline schemes. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Understanding human personality traits is significant as it helps in decision making related to consumers’ behavior, career counselling, team building and top candidates’ selection for recruitment. Among various traits, openness is essential as it shows both diverse aspects of sensitive nature or intuitive nature. The individuals having a sensing nature tends to be more practical and prefer to focus on concrete information whereas the users having intuitive trait type is characterized by a focus on abstract ideas, creative thinking and future-oriented perspectives. In this research work, we aim to explore diverse natural language processing (NLP) based features and apply state of the art deep learning algorithms for openness trait prediction. Using standard Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) dataset, we propose the use of the latest deep features of sentence embeddings which captures contextual semantics of the content to be used with deep learning models. For comparison, we explore textual features of Frequency-Inverse Document (TF-IDF) and parts of speech (POS) tagging with machine learning models and deep features of word2vec and global vectors for word representation (GloVe) with deep learning models. The comprehensive empirical analysis reveals that TF-IDF used with gradient boosting achieves high accuracy of 90% whereas, the deep feature of sentence embeddings when used and with deep model bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) achieves 90.5% accuracy. The best results have been achieved using the latest Transformer-based DistilBERT, which achieves the highest accuracy of 92% outperforming the existing studies in relevant literature. Geometric representation of query embeddings (using points, particles, rectangles and cones) can effectively achieve the task of answering complex logical queries expressed in first-order logic (FOL) form over knowledge graphs, allowing intuitive encodings. However, current geometric-based methods depend on the neural approach to model FOL operators (conjunction, disjunction and negation), which are not easily explainable with considerable computation cost. We overcome this challenge by introducing a symbolic modeling approach for the FOL operators, emphasizing the direct calculation of the intersection between geometric shapes, particularly sector-cones in the embedding space, to model the conjunction operator. This approach reduces the computation cost as a non-neural approach is involved in the core logic operators. Moreover, we propose to accelerate the learning in the relation projection operator using the neural approach to emphasize the essential role of this operator in all query structures. Although empirical evidence for explainability is challenging, our approach demonstrates a significant improvement in answering complex logical queries (both non-negative and negative FOL forms) over previous geometric-based models. © 2023 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Parkinson's disease (PD) profoundly impacts millions in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of early detection for better patient outcomes. We introduce 'NeuraTrace PD,' an innovative application for early PD screening, combining brain MRI, hand-drawn image analysis, facial expression assessment, and voice analysis. For brain MRI analysis, we employed a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), achieving an impressive accuracy of 91% and identifying distinct graph connectivity patterns using graph theory. We also use a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to reach 90% accuracy in analyzing hand-drawn images, while optimizing image resolution for efficiency and information retention. Facial expression analysis is a vital component, leveraging CNN and Constrained Local Models (CLM) to accurately extract Facial Action Units (FAUs), which contribute to a remarkable 95% accuracy using the XGBoost machine learning model. We introduce a Machine Learning (ML) algorithm and advanced signal processing to enhance voice feature analysis, offering a thorough understanding and classification of PD patients. It reaches 99% accuracy. In summary, our approach holds significant promise for advancing early PD diagnosis, ultimately improving the quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition. © 2023 IEEE.

Ensuring product security in software development is crucial, encompassing hardware, firmware, and holistic protection measures. With rising cyber threats, organizations face challenges in safeguarding software products, often viewing security as a bottleneck. To address these issues, we conducted an empirical study with 22 practitioners across various industries, exploring challenges and practices in product security. Our findings highlight both the applicability of security practices and the new challenges in their implementation. This research contributes valuable insights, enabling organizations to proactively address security concerns and develop robust strategies for protecting their software products. © 2024 IEEE.
