In today’s corporate landscape, the creation of questionnaires, surveys or evaluation forms for employees is a widespread practice. These tools are regularly used to check various aspects such as motivation, opportunities for improvement, satisfaction levels and even potential cybersecurity risks. A common limitation lies in their generic nature: they often lack personalization and rely on predetermined questions. Our research focuses on improving this process by introducing AI agents based on reinforcement learning. These agents dynamically adapt the content of surveys to each person based on their unique personality traits. Our framework is open source and can be seamlessly integrated into various use cases in different industries or academic research. To evaluate the effectiveness of the approach, we tackle a real-life scenario: the detection of potentially inappropriate behavior in the workplace. In this context, the reinforcement learning-based AI agents function like human recruiters and create personalized surveys. The results are encouraging, as they show that our decision algorithms for content selection are very similar to those of recruiters. The open-source framework also includes tools for detailed post-analysis for further decision making and explanation of the results. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Online streaming feature selection(OSFS),as an online learning manner to handle streaming features,is critical in addressing high-dimensional *** real big data-related applications,the patterns and distributions of streaming features constantly change over time due to dynamic data generation ***,existing OSFS methods rely on presented and fixed hyperparameters,which undoubtedly lead to poor selection performance when encountering dynamic *** make up for the existing shortcomings,the authors propose a novel OSFS algorithm based on vague set,named *** main idea is to combine uncertainty and three-way decision theories to improve feature selection from the traditional dichotomous method to the trichotomous ***-Vague also improves the calculation method of correlation between features and ***,OSFS-Vague uses the distance correlation coefficient to classify streaming features into relevant features,weakly redundant features,and redundant ***,the relevant features and weakly redundant features are filtered for an optimal feature *** evaluate the proposed OSFS-Vague,extensive empirical experiments have been conducted on 11 *** results demonstrate that OSFS-Vague outperforms six state-of-the-art OSFS algorithms in terms of selection accuracy and computational efficiency.

At the doctoral level in the field of computer science, the domain of literature plagiarism detection encompasses numerous plagiarism detection algorithms, but relatively fewer have focused on methods specifically designed for topic-based plagiarism detection. To address this research gap, this paper introduces a text semantic matching algorithm based on contrastive learning and adversarial training, which we have named 'Comparative Adversarial Training (CAT).' Specifically, during the fine-tuning process, we generate affirmative and negative sentences using paper titles and keywords and optimize the model's performance through contrastive learning. Simultaneously, we generate adversarial samples by perturbing the word embedding matrix of the model and then employ these adversarial samples for adversarial training. Through experiments conducted on our proprietary internal dataset, the fine-tuned BERT model exhibited an average performance improvement of 3.71% compared to the baseline BERT model. Similarly, the fine-tuned RoBERTa model demonstrated a performance enhancement of 3.18% relative to the RoBERTa baseline model. Based on these experimental results, our algorithm's effectiveness has been thoroughly validated. © 2024 IEEE.

This research-to-practice full paper investigates using team process analytics from GitHub to support team management. Effective teamwork is essential in higher education learning and workplace success. The role of educators in supporting proper team functioning includes helping students learn how to participate actively and communicate effectively in meetings, delegate work fairly, manage high-quality work throughput, and resolve conflicts if problems arise. Problems often emerge when team members have differing visions or individuals do not contribute equally to the work output. These problems are exacerbated in large classes involving many teams. Detecting these potential issues in teams and helping students work through them is important for team success. In software engineering projects, monitoring individual contributions can begin with mining activities on programming platforms such as GitHub, which makes much of the individual contributions more visible and quantifiable. In this work, we propose a framework for fairly assessing teamwork and present the development of team analytics to assist educators in detecting potential issues in team collaboration. We describe a pilot study involving this tool in the context of a software engineering capstone course with 104 students split into 22 teams managed by 4 teaching assistants. Our results show that the reports offer value in guiding the evaluation process and identifying where problems may be, but do not replace the actual repository analysis where needed. We discuss the potential value of using this tool to improve collaboration. © 2024 IEEE.

Photovoltaic panel used in solar power generation is an environmentally beneficial and sustainable energy source that has been used to transform sunlight into electrical power. Arranged in large solar facilities, these panels are connected to a central inverter, which converts Direct Current (DC) to alternating current (AC) electricity with a small amount of energy loss. Clean surfaces, unhindered light exposure, and high solar irradiance are all necessary for optimal panel performance. It's critical to assess the inverter's efficiency by comparing its AC to DC power. Large-scale installations with sensor-equipped panels and inverters track performance to help with maintenance and forecasting of power generation. The Internet of Things (IoT) facilitates data accessibility and remote monitoring, which helps choose the best location for solar power generation. Smart system continuous monitoring expedites site inspections, which supports urban smart grid integration. In this research study, a hybrid machine learning model is presented by combining the attention processes, long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and clustering approaches. This model is separated into different phases for forecasting, training, and cloud data clustering, finds pertinent historical data, builds a hybrid machine learning model, and chooses the best training model. In comparison to conventional approaches, this method significantly improves prediction accuracy, which is important for integrating photovoltaic systems into smart grids, particularly in smart cities. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper explores the application of state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) technologies to improve the user experience in games. Our motivation stems from the realization that a virtual assistant’s input during games or simulation applications can significantly assist the user in real-time problem solving, suggestion generation, and dynamic adjustments. We propose a novel framework that seamlessly integrates large-scale language models (LLMs) into game environments and enables intelligent assistants to take the form of physical 3D characters or virtual background entities within the player narrative. Our evaluation considers computational requirements, latency and quality of results using techniques such as synthetic dataset generation, fine-tuning, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and security mechanisms. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations, including real user feedback, confirm the effectiveness of our approach. The framework is implemented as an open-source plugin for the Unreal Engine and has already been successfully used in a game demo. The presented methods can be extended to simulation applications and serious games in general. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – science and Technology Publications, Lda.

We rigorously study the joint evolution of training dynamics via stochastic gradient descent (SGD) and the spectra of empirical Hessian and gradient matrices. We prove that in two canonical classification tasks for multi-class high-dimensional mixtures and either 1 or 2-layer neural networks, the SGD trajectory rapidly aligns with emerging low-rank outlier eigenspaces of the Hessian and gradient matrices. Moreover, in multi-layer settings this alignment occurs per layer, with the final layer's outlier eigenspace evolving over the course of training, and exhibiting rank deficiency when the SGD converges to sub-optimal classifiers. This establishes some of the rich predictions that have arisen from extensive numerical studies in the last decade about the spectra of Hessian and information matrices over the course of training in overparametrized networks. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. In this paper we give several applications of Littlestone dimension. The first is to the model of Angluin and Dohrn [1], where we extend their results for learning by equivalence queries with random counterexamples. Second, we extend that model to infinite concept classes with an additional source of randomness. Third, we give improved results on the relationship of Littlestone dimension to classes with extended d-compression schemes, proving the analog of a conjecture of Floyd and Warmuth [4] for Littlestone dimension. © Hunter Chase, James Freitag, and Lev Reyzin.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is widely recognized as the primary cause of visual impairment worldwide. Early intervention is crucial in preventing irreversible vision loss. Ophthalmologists conventionally utilize fundus cameras to capture retinal images and detect indications of diabetic retinopathy, thereby facilitating prompt diagnosis. The progress made in computational intelligence has significantly enhanced our ability to identify, predict, and categorize DR. The focus of this research is to present a proficient framework for the DR grading. The framework proposed employs Laplacian filters to reduce undesirable image distortions and enhance the overall quality of the images. The methodology involves the utilization of transfer learning through the pre-existing VGG19 Convolutional Neural Network architecture to pull out features from diverse pooling layers. The amalgamation of extracted features from multiple layers results in the formation of feature vectors. These vectors are utilized as inputs for training various machine learning algorithms, with the objective of identifying the most effective model for evaluating the severity of DR. Significantly, the research provides a rationale for its forecasts, guaranteeing the transparency of the algorithm and comprehensibility of the model, thereby validating its reliability. The model's exceptional precision renders it a promising candidate for broad implementation in clinical identification and prediction of DR, potentially augmenting global patient outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Identification of domain-specific euphemistic tweets using clustering

Social media platforms (SMPs) are frequently utilised as a readily accessible and comprehensive medium for expressing personal opinions nowdays. The use of euphemism, a linguistic strategy in which the underlying feeling of expressive content is veiled by the use of mild language, has been a longtime practise in the realm of SMPs for the purpose of reducing harshness or to discuss sensitive topics [1]. The identification of masked contents [2] in euphemism is challenging due to their inherent nature. This study presents a proposed identification mechanism aimed at detecting domain-specific euphemisms through the utilisation of clustering techniques. The pattern categorization feature is created utilising domain-specific lexical features combined with frequency-based features. In order to identify the most suitable match, the hybrid feature extraction algorithms incorporate uni-gram and bi-gram features dependent on frequency based feature, in conjunction with a lexicon. The objective of the dimension reduction phase is to address the issue of sparsity and to identify the most significant words for each sample in order to classify them into different domains using centroid and density-based clustering techniques. The DBSCAN algorithm is employed with an epsilon value of 2.5 and a minimum number of points set to 6, resulting in the identification of 7 distinct clusters. To calculate the optimal value for k in the K-means algorithm, the Silhouette score is utilised. The clusters that were obtained are examined by manual means. We compare our model to FLUTE dataset with epsilon value of 0.2, minpoints of 5 for DBSCAN, and obtain validation score of 0.55.
