Two kind of the resistance film of ruthenium-alumina and nickel-alumina was formed on glass substrate by an aerosol deposition (AD) method using the mixed powders of these materials at room temperature. Influence of the mixing ratio of these powders for the film condition, hardness and resistance was evaluated. The dense resistance films of ruthenium-alumina and nickel-alumina were able to deposit on a glass substrate at room temperature by controlling the mixing ratio of these powders. Vickers hardness and resistance of the nickel-alumina composite film depended on the mixing ratio. Vickers hardness of the nickel-alumina composite film changed from 115 to 212. The volume resistance of the nickel-alumina composite film changed from 20 to 140×10-5 Ωm. The hardness of the ruthenium-alumina composite film measured by the dynamic hardness tester was over HV 1000. The electrical resistance of the ruthenium-alumina composite film was 34 Ω. Additionally, the stress sensor composed of an insulating film and the ruthenium-alumina composite film was formed on a specimen by the AD method, and used for the tension-compression test. The resistance value was changed by the variation of the load which was added to the specimen. The load which was added to the specimen could be detected by this resistance film formed by the AD method.

The micro-electroforming of array model is investigated in this paper. A numerical method was developed for predicting the rotation effect on the streamlines, stress and voltage distribution of analytic mould and the analytic capacity in the cathode-field for flow field. The parameters of electrolyte flowing, mass transfer and current reaction in the cathode are included in the current mathematical model. As regard to the experiments, the micro structure of U-type holes is observed by using SEM, and the crystalline diameter by X-ray diffractometer and the relationship between force, hardness, and elastic deformation of material can be obtained from micro hardness meter. The above result can be useful to realize the rotation effect of cathode and to set up the basis of fabricating the microstructure of higher hardness, lower shear stress, good duplicating, and higher even surface.

We have worked on multi-scale interface for bio and medical engineering. This paper focuses on small, soft, and safe (S 3 ) micromachine as multi-scale interfaces. Micromachine is small in nature. We have developed all polymer pneumatic balloon actuator (PBA) as S 3 actuator. Novel technologies have been studied in our developmental process of S 3 micromachine. S 3 micromachine is based on its soft and flexible structure and safe driving principle. Polymers such as polyimide and PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) allow soft and flexible structure. Pneumatic driving method can provide safe operation especially for medical application. The PBA-based medical tool was applied to a retractor for spacing in front of the endoscope at our early stage. This talk also presents the PBA as a surgical tool for a retinal pigment epithelium transplantation. As our recent works on S 3 micromachine, a flexible sensor for S 3 actuator and a sucking device for medical MEMS are also presented.

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) film was formed on the glass and stainless steel substrate by an inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-assisted aerosol deposition (AD) method. The influence of an RF power was investigated for the deposition rate, microstructure and dielectric properties of the PZT film. With our experimental deposition system, the deposition rate of PZT film was approximately 1μm/min when using the AD method without plasma assist. On the other hand, the deposition rate rose to over 10μm/min using the ICP-assisted AD method with the RF power of 800 W. The cross-sectional microstructure and XRD pattern of the PZT film was difference using the RF power of 800W and without plasma assistance. The dielectric constant of PZT films formed by the ICP-assisted AD method with the RF power of 0 W and 800 W measured at 1 kHz are 50 and 237, respectively. Dielectric constant increased with increasing the RF power. The dielectric properties of PZT film was improved with ICP-assistance.

KNIVES is proposed as Internet based demand and supply control system and controls power by using distributed and cooperative power control algorithm. However, if KNIVES aims to maintain indoor environmental amenity, installed locations and the numbers of environmental sensors are critical issues. Wireless sensor network is useful to measure environmental data of various points where a wired sensor is not available or cost of wired installation is expensive, and makes it easy to install or to relocate the sensors. In this paper, we implement ZigBee wireless sensor network and make operational test to discuss about the application of demand control method by using wireless sensor network. Furthermore, we propose some demand control application with ZigBee, customized environment-based control and head-count-based control, to make DSM more efficient.

KNIVES is a system for providing balanced power supply and effective demand control. This system controls the power of electric devices over the Internet, due to reduce total power consumption. For the control, KNIVES also considers indoor environmental affinity by using environmental sensors. In this paper, CO 2 sensor is implemented on KNIVES terminal and it enables to measure CO 2 concentration for assessing indoor vitiation. This paper verifies the effectiveness of this sensor by estimating the number of people. Also, the number of people is one of the parameter for effective control. Existing estimating method for counting the number of people, however, is difficult to install in a existing building. This paper describes the new estimating method for the number of people by CO 2 concentration. As a result, this method can accomplish accurate measurement, and it can be applied to various applications for a future demand control.

In this paper, the control system for pushing wheelchair using the mobile robot is proposed. There are two purposes of control, to realize the soft pushing wheelchair task and the wheelchair robust motion control. The availability of these control systems are confirmed by experiment results. In addition, kinematics of the mobile robot is proposed. This robot has many degrees of freedom motion. Thus the robot has redundant degree of freedom. Therefore, the control system of null space by utilizing redundancy is also proposed.
