Electrical contacts are widely used for telecommunication and electric power systems as a device mechanically making and breaking electrical current. In the future, they will be more indispensable. In this paper, we explored the possibilities of early lifetime prediction of Ag-Ni contacts for an electromagnetic contactor. Contact erosion often leads to the contact failure and the system fault. Especially, for heavy electrical systems, the failure can cause critical troubles. We must estimate approximate periods of the system fault to avoid the troubles. The tests of lifetime are very important for that purpose. However, the tests often require an enormous amount of time. We investigate the possibilities of lifetime prediction of contacts. In the past work, we confirmed that the mass loss could lead to the contact failure of Ag-Ni contacts and the mass loss of cathode was in proportion to total arc energy generated between the anode and the cathode. At this time we measured the mass losses of cathodes with a few making and breaking operations for more samples, and accurately predicted the mass losses after a lot of operations. We compared them with experimented results of a lot of operations.

A general solution for the diffusion equation applied to moving interfaces in multicomponent systems is presented. The solution is simultaneously solved with the chemical potential equations describing multicomponent thermodynamic equilibrium, ensuring local equilibrium at the interface. Phase kinetics and thermodynamics are rigorously linked irrespective of the number of solutes in the system and their difference in diffusivity. The mathematical compactness of the equations resulted in an increase of the computations speed as compared to other approaches. The model is applied to calculate the reaustenitisation kinetics for TRIP and Dual Phase steels with four and more components. The progress in ferrite, cementite and austenite compositions and volume fraction for a variety of heating rates and isothermal holding temperatures is presented.

The head mounted display (HMD) is widely used in virtual reality technology. In common HMD, however, the binocular disparity is set to an equal fixed value in the entire range of view. Such HMD systems have several shortcomings when used for wide views. In this study, in order to realize a natural stereo sensation of HMD with wide view, we measure the characteristics of binocular stereo perception and binocular light perception. Results show that both the stereoacuity and light sensitivity decrease as the retina's eccentricity increases from fovea to periphery. However, the decrease of the stereoacuity is more rapid than that of the light sensitivity. These results suggest that the binocular disparity at the peripheral field should be small, otherwise double images would be observed instead of a stereo view. Based on the results we develop a relative binocular stereoacuity model which can be applied for the design of HMD systems with wide view.
