The main goal of mobile IPv6 is that a mobile node is always addressable by its home address, whether it is currently attached to its home link or is away from home. Mobile IPv6 enables applications running on an Internet node to survive physical reconnection by inserting a few additional features at the network layer. In this paper, focus is given to a micro-mobility based test-bed development with improved algorithm. The test-bed consists of both hardware and software, including four PCs and one laptop. The laptop is used as mobile host (MH), two PCs act as access points, one PC becomes the home agent (HA) and one PC is used as a multicast router (ML). This test-bed is used to verify the theoretical enhancement of the micro-mobility handover algorithm via the results (packet loss, handover delay and quality of service). There is no signaling traffic overload between the MH, HA and correspondent host (CH), the handover delay is low, approximately below 10 ms, and the video stream has good reception.

In crisp approximation theory the operations that are used are only the usual sum and product of reals. We propose the following problem: are sum and product the only operations that can be used in approximation theory? As an answer to this problem we propose max-product Shepard Approximation operators and we prove that these operators have very similar properties to those provided by the crisp approximation theory. In this sense we obtain uniform approximation theorem of Weierstrass type, and Jackson-type error estimate in approximation by these operators.

For efficient computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) audio conferencing is an essential component where video and text are add-ons. The specifications for enabling CSCW over Internet are incomplete if they are blind to actual conduct of participants. Indeed, a blind conference mimics quite closely a virtual voice-only conference. In this paper, we analyze the results of sessions of face-to-face blind conversations and gain penetrating insights. In particular, we focus on the impact of users' behavior on the design of a scalable architecture for virtual voice-only conferencing over VoIP and arrive at a meaningful number of floors for such conferences. We also present the features and the requirements for the proposed service.

The paper describes a new approach of atomic simulation for silicon (Si) anisotropic wet etching using molecular dynamics (MD). The extended Tersoff potential was adopted as a potential function for MD, which was able to handle Si etching reaction with hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) atoms. The potential function also made it possible to represent a transition of electric charge under chemical etching MD simulations as a function of atomic distance. Binding energies between Si, H and O atoms were statically calculated by the function, and they showed good agreement with previously reported experimental data. Finally, etching MD simulation of single crystal Si in water was carried out using the extended Tersoff potential for revealing the effect of hydrogen termination at the top of Si on the interaction between Si, H and O atoms.

A novel full-reversed bending fatigue tester was developed for cyclic fatigue damage evaluation of MEMS materials. This paper focuses on; 1) the design of the micro fatigue tester; 2) establishment of the bending fatigue testing procedure; and 3) revealing fatigue lives of microscale single crystal silicon (SCS) specimens. In fatigue testing, an SCS specimen was reciprocated between the twin thick-cantilevers to induce tensile and compressive stresses at both fixed ends of the specimen. The twin cantilevers played two roles; one is as an indenter for bending and the other as a detector of cyclic loading applied to a specimen. The bending load was measured by the deflection of the twin cantilevers using a laser reflection system based on an AFM technique. This research succeeded in obtaining elastic hysteresis loops of microscale specimen.

Knowledge of the properties of motor cortical neurons is crucial for solving the problem of developing a flexible and robust brain-computer interface (BCI). The results of chronic multielectrode recording from the primary motor cortical area of monkey brain during the animal's performance of a center-out 3D reaching task and adaptation to external force perturbation of the movement are described. Recruitment of new cells was observed in the dorsal premotor and primary motor cortex. This consisted of the gradual, day-to-day development of a directional tuning pattern (DTP) of spike activity. In many neurons an "exploratory" variation of DTP was observed. The intensity of variation gradually decreased by the end of adaptation, usually converging to a new pattern. The resulting DTP was retained for at least several days after perturbations were discontinued. The results suggest that the brain cortex can be viewed as a pool of functionally flexible processing elements that can be dynamically recruited into a system controlling the performance of a given motor task and individually adjusted as required for motor learning

This paper focuses on revealing the effect of gas flow ratio in PE-CVD on elastic properties of sub micron-thick silicon nitride (SiN/sub x/) films for surface-micromachined MEMS. SiN/sub x/ films having a thickness of 0.1 /spl mu/m to 0.7 /spl mu/m are deposited on single crystal silicon (SCS) specimens of 10 /spl mu/m in thickness by changing the gas flow ratio of NH/sub 3/' to SiH/sub 4/ in PE-CVD. The atomic force microscope (AFM) tensile testing technique is employed to characterize Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of SiN/sub x/ films. The Young's modulus of SiN/sub x/ films range from 102 GPa to 143 GPa, independent of film thickness. A Poisson's ratio ranging from 0.2 to 0.26 is also obtained from tensile and nano-indentation combined tests. Auger spectroscopy makes it clear that an increase of the atomic content ratio of nitrogen to silicon in SiN/sub x/ film yields its higher elastic mechanical properties.

Many studies of social networks have recently been published. Interest in topological structures, such as scale-free characteristics, has been particularly strong. In this paper, we focus on the analysis of macro traffic data in a communications network of cellular phone users as a way of investigating large-scale social networks. Behaviors of information exchange between pairs of cellular phone users are reflected in traffic data, which thus reflects interesting features of social networks. We analyze the relationship between the number of customers and the volume of traffic with a view to finding clues about the structure of social networks among the very large set of potential customers. We then demonstrate some interesting features that our analysis reveals: a scale-free topology of human relations, their cluster structures, and behaviors of user-dynamics. In addition, we consider the relationship between traffic volume and the number of customers depending on the situation.

This paper proposes a detection method of moving ships from the navigational image sequence that was taken with cameras installed on the bridge of the ship. The image is influenced by roll and pitch of the ship. Therefore, usual technique of image processing cannot be used such as Finite Difference method. Moreover, as many sea waves appear in the images, the image cannot be dealt without rejecting sea waves. The technique in this paper proposes how to get rid of the influence of roll, pitch and sea waves. After that, we detect the ships. An interval between each of the frames is one-thirty second in this experiment. The size of the images is 640 pixels in width and 480 pixels in height. At first, the frames are segmented into about 5000 regions using brightness value of the image. About 100 regions were estimated with the ship. Each region was matched with another two frames, which passed 0.33 second and 0.66 second. 0.33 second corresponds to 10 frames. The movement of the ship is less than 50 pixels in this interval. The SSDA method is used for matching processing to be more efficiently. Both the coordinate points of an original region and the matched one are recorded on the table. It is used to calculate the deflection, the speed and the direction of the moving vector of each region. The ships can be detected with these parameters. The detected ships can be displayed clearly as a result of processing. We have taken a lot of video images in Tokyo Bay and Tokyo Port. It becomes possible to show that the ships can be detected from the video images.

A test structure and method for two-dimensional analysis of hot-carrier-induced photoemission in n-MOSFETs are presented. Photoemission intensity profiles along the gate width direction are analyzed and a method to derive the precise peak position of photoemission intensity from the center of MOSFETs gate is proposed. It can measure the variation of the photoemission peak position along the gate width direction. The peak exists in the LDD region, and the distance from the gate edge is about 20-30 nm independently of V G. © 2005 IEEE.
