This paper describes the safe control method on bilateral control system. The control stability in bilateral control under time variance communication delay does not always stand for operation safety. Local controller is needed to secure the safety when communication delay becomes large. A novel method to change over the local controller and global bilateral controller due to communication delay is suggested. At the same time, the stability of global bilateral control is also assured with the conventional stability assurance method. Experimental system that joints manipulators in Slovenia and Japan is constructed. The validity of the suggested method is shown with this experimental system.

Real-time communication infrastructure is required for distant motion control. This paper proposes a multipath policy routing based on class-based queueing. Isolating queues and links for an UDP's real-time flow from other non real-time flows, it is expected to reduce the delays and jitters of a real-time flow. Some simulation results show the efficiency of our proposal. It turns out that our proposed multipath routing achieves minimum end-to-end delay theoretically, and eliminates the jitter of real-time flow whether a bottleneck link exists or not.

In the recent aging society, traffic systems require to be safer. As treating this back ground with intellectualizing vehicle, it is useful to estimate accurate Self Aligning Torque (SAT) charged on tire. It is because we could improve some unstable movements of vehicle or operationality of steering by this technique. In this paper, the control algorithm to detect SAT by using the Reaction Torque Observer and not using sort of side slip angle sensor is proposed. It could be also realized only by changing the control algorithm of existing Electric Power Steering system and it is given a try to be applied to improve operationality in lateral skid condition of vehicle. The steering assist torque was controlled to be generated to direction reducing slip angle of front tire. The simulation and experiment was carried out in order to verify the proposed controllability.

This study aims at establishing a robust and an effective intelligent control method for nonlinear and complicated systems. In the method, an integrator neural network acquires suitable switching and integration of several controllers for a different local purpose by calculating the fitness function based on the system objective using the genetic algorithm. The proposed method is applied to an equilibrium point transfer and stabilization control of a double pendulum that possesses four equilibrium points. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, computational simulations and experiments using a real apparatus were carried out. As a result, it was demonstrated that the integrated intelligent controllers could transfer and stabilize the double pendulum from an arbitrary equilibrium point to a desired unstable equilibrium point without touching the cart position limit.

Electrical contacts are widely used for telecommunication and electric power systems as a device mechanically making and breaking electrical current. In the future, they can be still indispensable. Furthermore, the performance and reliability of electrical contacts must be more improved. Details of the mechanisms, however, have not completely been revealed yet, so that contact erosion and material transfer sometimes lead them to contact failure. We focus on two issues about contact erosion. In these years, volumetric method was proposed as the new evaluation method of surface erosion. However, few papers compare it with weighing method of measuring the mass change in detail. Hence, we investigated relationship between the number of switching operations and the amount of wear in electromagnetic contactor, and compared two methods. Furthermore, electromagnetic contactor is often used in the systems with an AC power supply. On the other hand, the DC mode test provides more fundamental data for us to investigate the electrical contacts than the AC mode test. We compared the data of the DC mode test with that of the AP mode test and described the possibility to estimate contact erosion with an AC power supply in terms of the DC mode test. The result of the DC mode agreed well with that of the AP mode in the case of low load current and a small operation number. We could also show an availability of volumetric method in early lifetime prediction.

A new safety support system has been developed to detect and transmit notification of a wandering elderly person's location. The system employs a low transmitting power mobile phone (PHS) and a personal computer (PC). The PHS is carried with the elderly person as a pendant. The PHS location is identified within 100m from the receiving antenna ID. Therefore, the system can detect whether the wandering elderly person is in or out of their home. When the wandering elderly person is away from home, the system automatically informs the caregiver via voice mode and sends the wandering elderly person's location map by e-mail.

Conformations of a single semiflexible polymer chain dissolved in a low molecular weight liquid crystalline solvent (nematogen) are examined by using a mean field theory. We takes into account a stiffness and partial orientational ordering of the polymer. As a result of an anisotropic coupling between the polymer and nematogen, we predict a discontinuous (or continuous) phase transition from a condensed‐rodlike conformation to a swollen‐one of the polymer chain, depending on the stiffness of the polymer. We also study a single polymer chain confined in a smectic phase.
