This paper describes nondestructive pesticide measurement of agricultural products based on the diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR-DR). Both FT-IR-DR spectra and the concentration of the pesticide residues were measured for real lettuce samples. Then, calibration models to estimate the residual concentration of the pesticides were derived by partial least square regression of the spectra. Cross validations of the calibration models were also carried out. It has been revealed that by using this method, it takes two minutes to measure multi-elements of pesticide residues in a sample lettuce head. A sensor system for food safety inspection could be expected based on this method.

In this study,we present a new adaptive multiplefrequency tracking and new modification law afterexamining relation between the error of frequency andoutput level in detail. We also develop a multiplefrequency estimation algorithm, which is insensitive toobservation noise and prove the asymptotic stability foradaptive nonlinear algorithm and adaptive frequencytracking method theoretically. The effectiveness of thismethod and the theoretical proof are verified bysimulation. The experimental results show that theproposed algorithm is effective for achieving unbalancevibration suppression.

Relation between internal waves with short time scale and density distribution near the shelf break in the East China Sea is studied utilizing moored current meters, thermometers and conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) casts. A well developed pycnocline was frequently observed around 150-200 m depth near the shelf break accompanied with the development of internal waves with short time scale. During the cruise in May 1998, the intensified internal wave motion with short time scale and the distinct offshore flow were observed just below the lower pycnocline, which shoaled and extended above the shelf area. It is suggested that vertical mixing generated by amplified internal waves would produce cross-shelf ageostophic density current around the pycnocline. During the cruise in May 1999, on the other hand, the lower pycnocline was located offshore below the shelf break, and the internal wave motion was amplified just above the lower pycnocline. In this case, the offshore flow should be generated above the lower pycnocline, but vertical profiles of current velocity were not obtained because acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) data were not available around the lower pycnocline.

An electromagnetic-type vibratory feeder of is a typical transportation device used in automatic weighers. As existing feeders are driven by feedforward control, the so-called "firing angle control", the driver cannot negate sudden disturbances. In this study, we consider applying a feedback control for such a feeder system. First, we give the two details of modelings for the vibration part and for the electromagnetic force part. Next, a feedback control system is constructed for the electromagnetic vibration feeder for which we propose a two-degrees-of-freedom proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) controller with nonlinear elements. Next, we apply the feedback control to the feeder with a standard trough. Finally, we consider a method compatible with many varieties of troughs by adjusting a nonlinear element. On the basis of the results of some experiments, we confirm that the two-degrees-of-freedom PID control is more effective than the conventional firing angle control.
