Dropout (DO) has negative implications for individuals and educational institutions. The field of education data mining (EDM) offers valuable contributions to prevent dropout cases and improve student retention. This study focuses on implementing EDM to identify students at risk of dropping out by integrating academic activity criteria with real-time data sources. Previous studies have encountered limitations in classification and clustering techniques, with classification relying on labeled training data (supervised learning) and clustering constrained by attribute or criteria weight (unsupervised learning). This study aims to address these limitations by combining the PROMETHEE II ranking approach and the CRITIC weighting method, producing a list of students with dropout potential. The results can aid stakeholders in implementing preventive measures. The study involves several steps: 1) Collecting data through integration with academic portals;2) Filtering and selecting criteria for student academic activities;3) Transforming and normalizing the data;4) Applying automatic weighting using CRITIC;5) Calculating criteria rankings using the PROMETHEE II technique;and 6) Validating the ranking outcomes. © 2023 IEEE.

Constructing a hybrid activation and parameter-fusion based CNN medical image classifier

In recent years, numerous deep learning models for medical image classification have emerged, with varying accuracies influenced by factors like image quality, content, and the convoluted low-level features. In this article, we aim to identify key features that enhance the precision of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are widely employed in this domain. We empirically demonstrate that parameters like activation functions, image augmentation, convolutional layers, filter sizes, and max pooling significantly impact precision, while others like hidden layers, epochs, and batch sizes affect quality and runtime negatively. To validate our proposal, we use a publicly-available dataset of colored Breast Cancer images which comprises 27,751 images distributed over three sub-datasets as follows: 4162 testing images (2980 no cancer and 1182 with cancer), 19,426 training images (13,911 no cancer and 5515 with cancer), and 4163 validation images (2981 no cancer and 1182 with cancer). Multiple experimental runs were conducted, and the outcomes of each run were recorded, taking into account various evaluation metrics and components of the CNN architecture. Results demonstrate that the highest CNN classifier’s accuracy was achieved when coupling RelU and Sigmoid activation functions using a 3 × 3 filter with a batch of size 32 and 20 epochs and 2 hidden layers. A Similar accuracy rate (83.55%) has also been achieved when coupling ReLU and Sigmoid activation functions using the DensNet-201 pre-trained CNN model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Advances in algorithmic studies have been made recently, especially in the area of finding the shortest path. Despite taking a greedy approach, the Dijkstra algorithm is well recognized for its efficacy and has established itself as the industry standard for identifying the shortest path in a graph. Conversely, scientists have embraced the Ant-Colony Optimization (ACO) approach, which draws inspiration from the behavior of ants. This study examines the two methods and determines if, given equivalent resources, ACO can generate Dijkstra-like recommendations. Research data is subjected to both algorithms, and the outcomes are presented visually. In data measurement, Dijkstra is processed first to determine the best path, and then the ACO method is applied to produce findings that are similar to Dijkstra. Memory consumption, computation time, initial memory allocation, and final memory allocation are evaluation parameters. ACO is more efficient than Dijkstra in terms of execution time and number of pathways traversed, according to the study's repeated evaluation methodology. This iterative assessment procedure is carried out to address the possibility of single measurements resulting from the JavaScript Garbage Collector. The study's findings imply that a larger memory may be necessary for ACO to deliver the desired outcomes. These results could also be impacted by each algorithm's distinct qualities. © 2023 IEEE.

Device connectivity has been redefined by the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, enabling diverse applications in areas such as smart cities, smart homes, and healthcare. These applications produce massive amounts of data, making it a significant challenge to offload tasks to cloud servers. However, the physical distance between devices often leads to latency issues for IoT systems, impacting time-sensitive applications. Fog computing tackles this issue by processing data closer to IoT devices. However, a high user density can strain the capacity of a macro base station, potentially leading to congestion. Drone Base Stations (DBSs) provide a flexible solution by acting as mobile relays to reduce latency and traffic burden. To address this issue, this work proposes a drone-assisted load distribution strategy in IoT networks. In our proposed approach, we deploy DBS efficiently using a greedy optimization technique. However, after the deployment of DBS, an optimal base station assignment framework dynamically connects user equipment to the most suitable base station, helping to minimize latency and enhance network performance. This dual-phase approach provides a scalable and practical solution for realtime IoT applications. Through extensive simulations, ensures that our proposed approach achieves a more balanced assignment compared to baseline algorithms. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper studies the performative prediction problem where a learner aims to minimize the expected loss with a decision-dependent data distribution. Such setting is motivated when outcomes can be affected by the prediction model, e.g., strategic classification. We consider a state-dependent setting where the data distribution evolves according to a controlled Markov chain. We focus on stochastic derivative free optimization (DFO) where the learner is given access to a loss function evaluation oracle with the above Markovian data. We propose a two-timescale DFO(λ) algorithm that features (i) a sample accumulation mechanism that utilizes every observed sample to estimate the gradient of performative risk, (ii) a two-timescale diminishing step size that balances the rates of DFO updates and bias reduction. Under a non-convex optimization setting, we show that DFO(λ) requires O(1/Ε3) samples (up to a log factor) to attain a near-stationary solution with expected squared gradient norm less than Ε. The Google Play platform boasts a total of 2,597,819 applications. A pivotal gauge of an application's success rests on its practical utility in daily life, coupled with its demonstrated strong performance metrics. There are several performance metrics to evaluate the performance of an application, such as RAM usage, CPU utilization, and their impact on battery life. Additionally, it is crucial to consider the User Interface (UI) factor, which serves as the primary connection between users and applications. Beyond its role as a bridge between users and applications, the UI can also significantly affect the performance of an application, as rendering a UI often takes a considerable amount of time. Various approaches can be employed to enhance the rendering time of a UI, one of which involves the use of design patterns like Model-View-Controller (MVC) and Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM), which effectively separate the business logic from the UI layer. This research study compares the performance of these two design patterns in the context of UI rendering time. The findings of this study confirm that MVVM outperforms MVC significantly in rendering UI components more rapidly. This superiority is attributed to MVVM's inherent ability to isolate business logic, ultimately reducing rendering delays. Furthermore, MVVM's prominent data binding feature further strengthens its efficiency in terms of UI rendering time. © 2023 ACM.

Positive and Unlabeled (PU) learning is a learning method which can be applied to various field such as recommendation and big data analysis. A direct method to solve PU learning is transform it into a weighted classification problem. However, previously proposed methods assume a strict condition. In this paper, we first investigate if the condition can be satisfied in real world situations and then propose a normalized weighted method which can relax the difficultly of PU learning. © 2023 ACM.

The main characteristics of the healthcare platform that this study suggests for rural areas are User ID or image-based recognition, Options for consultation, Disease Prediction, Integration with Aasha Workers, Technical considerations and Project Objectives. User ID or image-based recognition are used for a secure login process. Options for Consultation is to select from medical chatbots or video consultations with physicians. Disease Prediction is to make recommendations for possible disease diagnosis, real-time image analysis (such as reviewing uploaded photos) and machine learning are used. Risk assessment: Machine learning algorithms evaluate risks for different health disorders based on user-provided data (age, medical history, etc.). Integration with Aasha Workers is a platform establishes a connection with Aasha workers, who can provide medication as required following consultations. Technical considerations are a platform can be built using web development frameworks such as Flask or Django. Strong privacy and data security protocols are necessary. Project Objectives: Expand access to healthcare in remote locations. Give patients knowledge and tools for self-evaluation to empower them. Improve interaction and cooperation between medical professionals, patients, and Asha employees. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid growth of mobile applications, combined with an increasing reliance on these apps for a variety of purposes, has prompted serious concerns about user privacy and data security. This study aims to assess the privacy practices, data handling methods, and security vulnerabilities of mobile apps in a variety of categories, including social media, e-commerce, health and fitness, and financial management. This study identifies major privacy and security issues by examining privacy policies and terms of service, as well as how these apps handle sensitive data. The study also examines free and premium apps' privacy procedures, taking into account the implications for user data protection. The findings illustrate differences in data handling and security standards across different app categories, highlighting the importance of transparent privacy policies, strong security mechanisms, and limited data sharing to protect user information. The research helps to define standards and best practices for promoting secure app activity, increasing user confidence, and guaranteeing a safer digital environment. © 2025 IEEE.
