Reinforcement learning(RL) has roots in dynamic programming and it is called adaptive/approximate dynamic programming(ADP) within the control community. This paper reviews recent developments in ADP along with RL and its applications to various advanced control fields. First, the background of the development of ADP is described, emphasizing the significance of regulation and tracking control problems. Some effective offline and online algorithms for ADP/adaptive critic control are displayed, where the main results towards discrete-time systems and continuous-time systems are surveyed, ***, the research progress on adaptive critic control based on the event-triggered framework and under uncertain environment is discussed, respectively, where event-based design, robust stabilization, and game design are reviewed. Moreover, the extensions of ADP for addressing control problems under complex environment attract enormous attention. The ADP architecture is revisited under the perspective of data-driven and RL frameworks,showing how they promote ADP formulation ***, several typical control applications with respect to RL and ADP are summarized, particularly in the fields of wastewater treatment processes and power systems, followed by some general prospects for future research. Overall, the comprehensive survey on ADP and RL for advanced control applications has d emonstrated its remarkable potential within the artificial intelligence era. In addition, it also plays a vital role in promoting environmental protection and industrial intelligence.

Incorporating empirical knowledge into data-driven variable selection for quantitative analysis of coal ash content by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)has become a widely used atomic spectroscopic technique for rapid coal ***,the vast amount of spectral information in LIBS contains signal uncertainty,which can affect its quantification *** this work,we propose a hybrid variable selection method to improve the performance of LIBS *** variables are first identified using Pearson's correlation coefficient,mutual information,least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)and random forest,and then filtered and combined with empirical variables related to fingerprint elements of coal ash ***,these variables are fed into a partial least squares regression(PLSR).Additionally,in some models,certain variables unrelated to ash content are removed manually to study the impact of variable deselection on model *** proposed hybrid strategy was tested on three LIBS datasets for quantitative analysis of coal ash content and compared with the corresponding data-driven baseline *** is significantly better than the variable selection only method based on empirical knowledge and in most cases outperforms the baseline *** results showed that on all three datasets the hybrid strategy for variable selection combining empirical knowledge and data-driven algorithms achieved the lowest root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP)values of 1.605,3.478 and 1.647,respectively,which were significantly lower than those obtained from multiple linear regression using only 12 empirical variables,which are 1.959,3.718 and 2.181,*** LASSO-PLSR model with empirical support and 20 selected variables exhibited a significantly improved performance after variable deselection,with RMSEP values dropping from 1.635,3.962 and 1.647 to 1.483,3.086 and 1.567,*** results demonstrate that using empirical knowledge as a support for datadriven variable selection can be a viable approach to improve the acc

To solve the power imbalance problem caused by the difference between the equivalent impedance of the inverter and the line impedance, and the power quality problem caused by the disturbance of load mutation, unbalanced load and nonlinear load, this paper proposes a closed-loop feedback dynamic compensation strategy based on the equivalent virtual impedance of the residual generator. Firstly, based on the parallel topology of inverters, a quasi-steady-state model is established on the dq axis. Based on the model, the power imbalance caused by the difference of output impedance and line impedance of different inverters and the power quality problems caused by load switching, unbalanced load, nonlinear load and other disturbances in parallel inverters are ***, a residual generator is established based on the inverter model. A virtual impedance equivalent controller Qvir(S) based on the residual generator is designed by the Luenberger observer principle. The disturbance information is fed back in real time through the feedback structure, and then the virtual impedance is adjusted to realize the power sharing of the inverter parallel system. Then, based on Euler parameterization and coprime factorization theory, a dynamic compensation architecture based on residual generator is designed. The transfer function of the dynamic compensation controller Qcom (S) is obtained by model matching to realize the steady-state operation of parallel inverters and the improvement of system power quality. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed architecture is verified on the experimental platform. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays the battery energy storage system (BESS) plays a significant role in power grid due to its excellent function in energy regulation. In most cases, BESS connects to the power grid through Power Conversion system(PCS). However, the state of charge (SOC) of different battery modules tend to be different during the working process. The difference between SOC would intensify buckets effect, and the performance of BESS would be degraded due to the abnormal feature (low SOC) of single battery cell. To avoid such shortcoming, it is necessary to eliminate the difference of SOC though control strategy. In this paper, we propose a SOC balancing strategy for parallel-connected power conversion system based on PQ decoupling control, which can also adjust the active power output of each battery module converge to optimization solution. Simulation and experimental results from a 2u 700V, parallel-connected power converter system are presented in order to validate the method. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

The paper develops a novel framework of consensus control with fault-estimation-in-the-loop for multi-agent systems(MASs)in the presence of faults.A dynamic event-triggered protocol(DETP)by adding an auxiliary variable is utilized to improve the utilization of communication ***,a novel estimator with a noise bias is put forward to estimate the existed fault and then a consensus controller with fault compensation(FC)is adopted to realize the demand of reliability and safety of addressed ***,a novel consensus control framework with fault-estimation-in-the-loop is developed to achieve the predetermined consensus performance with the l_(2)-l_(∞)constraint by employing the variance analysis and the Lyapunov stability ***,the desired estimator and controller gains are obtained in light of the solution to an algebraic matrix equation and a linear matrix inequality in a recursive way,***,a simulation result is employed to verify the usefulness of the proposed design framework.

At present, in the fields of mobile communication, aerospace and et al., the signal transmission quality problems caused by the structural damage of the coaxial cable have become increasingly prominent, and the fault diagnosis methods for the coaxial cable have also received extensive attention in the industrial field. However, most of the commonly used method, such as the numerical modeling-based methods only consider the effect of signal reflection and transmission delays, but the effect of signal attenuation is not discussed, which in turn undermine the effect of cable diagnosis method. In this regard, this paper proposes a method for analyzing the attenuation characteristics of coaxial cables based on Fourier decomposition. First, the attenuation characteristics of the coaxial cable on fixed frequency is measured by the vector network analysis. Then, the transmission attenuation for continuous frequency is modeled using the Support Vector Regression. Next, the arbitrary input signal is decomposed by Fourier Transform and the attenuation of the coaxial cable when any signal is input is finally established. This paper also carried out the pulse attenuation measurement experiment based on the hardware platform, and compared the measured results with the simulation results, which verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Selective Laser Melting (SLM), an additive manufacturing process, has attracted significant attention from academia and industry over the past two decades. SLM is a productive technique for creating complex industrial components and tools with fewer stages, resulting in resource conservation in contrast to conventional manufacturing methods. Nonetheless, the current platforms employed in SLM metal part production lack the efficient utilisation of an online closed-loop system. The literature showed a significant place for utilising advanced control systems to improve overall performance. Such enhancement will enable the process to be used to fabricate more sophisticated parts. Introducing an online control system could also empower part production with better internal microstructure characteristics. This research reports an initial investigation of applying a closed-loop system to reduce the effect of heat accumulation while building a multilayer object, thus improving the system. The controller changes the laser input in the track and considers the temperature residuals for the completed layers. The simulation results presented a significant improvement in disturbance rejection and better control of the melt-pool characteristics.

Quantum gyroscopes based on double-mode surface-acoustic-wave cavities

Recent progress shows that a surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) cavity can not only induce quantum acoustic dynamics, but can also form optomechanical-like systems. Its operating frequencies in the microwave band make it resistant to the thermal noise of surrounding environments, while its radiation-pressure couplings make it susceptible to weak forces. Based on these advantages, we propose a gyroscope comprising coupled microwave-SAW cavities. In this paper we systematically consider the range, signal-to-noise ratio, and sensitivity, which are the three most important indices to gyroscopes, but only partially considered in existing works. Additionally, we establish the fundamental limits of sensitivity when the quantum input is in the vacuum state and the squeezed vacuum state. We find that squeezing improves sensitivity and can surpass the standard quantum limit. However, this improvement can only reach up to 2/2 even as the squeezed parameter approaches infinity, which is rarely noted in recent works. Finally, we also offer analytical constraints for cooperativity and squeezed parameters. These constraints can be utilized to design gyroscopes based on coupled cavities in experiments.

Lithium-ion batteries are prone to capacity degradation during use, leading to a decline in their reliability and potentially causing catastrophic failures. This necessitates the study of advanced methods for estimating the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries. To address this need, this paper conducts research in three areas: the extraction of degradation features, the construction of health factors, and the development of predictive models, proposing a comprehensive framework for estimating the remaining useful life of lithium-ion batteries. Firstly, the general trends of external feature parameters as a function of cycling are observed to identify the features that indicate battery degradation. Next, the relationship between these features and battery capacity is determined using Grey Relation Analysis, allowing for the construction of an indirect health factor. Finally, a data-driven prediction method is employed to construct a predictive network model using Long Short-Term Memory networks, with the health factor used for training to accurately predict the health state of the lithium-ion battery. The effectiveness of the proposed remaining life prediction method is validated using the NASA Battery Set dataset from NASA Ames Research Center.

Based on the background of the first pulsar navigation dedicated test satellite in China—X-ray pulsar navigation 1 (XPNAV-l), this paper analyzes the astronomical objects observation task of Low-Earth-Orbit satellites, studies the characteristics of astronomical object observation task and the requirements for satellite attitude control, proposes a satellite attitude control scheme, and further studies the problem of high-precision target pointing. A spiral segmented method for astronomical object search and pointing correction is proposed, which solves the problem of high-precision pointing of astronomical object by satellites without absolute reference in orbit. Through XPNAV-l on-orbit experiments, it is verified that the proposed scheme achieves high accuracy and meets the needs of astronomical exploration.
