Maintenance management plays a crucial role in the cost dimension of transportation company. Repair and maintenance expenses constitute a significant portion of overall manageable costs and directly impact the revenue generation of these businesses. Effective maintenance manage management is therefore essential for transportation companies to ensure the constant readiness of their vehicles for transportation tasks. This research aimed to study the factors that influence the acceptance of collaborative fleet maintenance platform by conducting a comprehensive in-depth interview with 3 groups. 1. Transportation company with in-house fleet maintenance units and nationwide transport services 2. Transportation company without in-house fleet maintenance units and nationwide transport services and 3. Truck repair and maintenance service providers which 20 business per groups. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The interviews were transcribed verbatim. Data analysis employed thematic analysis, a qualitative data analysis method that identifies patterns and themes within the collected data. The research results demonstrated the factors that influence the acceptance of collaboration platforms for fleet maintenance are price format, data and information, ease of use and perceived usefulness. ©2024 IEEE.

Preventing 51% Attack by Using Consecutive Block Limits in Bitcoin

In permissionless blockchain systems, Proof of Work (PoW) is utilized to address the issues of double-spending and transaction starvation. When an attacker acquires more than 50% of the hash power of the entire network, they gain the ability to engage in double-spending activities, posing a significant threat to the PoW consensus algorithm. This research focuses on the consensus algorithm employed in the Bitcoin system, explaining how it operates and the security challenges it faces. The proposed modification to the PoW algorithm imposes a restriction on miners: they are not allowed to accept consecutive blocks from the same miner into the final local blockchain to prevent the 51% attack problem. This modification supports transactions that require six confirmations. In the event an attacker attempts a 51% attack with a private chain that consists of fewer than 6 blocks, it becomes easier to detect a double-spending attack before accepting the attacker's private chain. The modified algorithm introduces a 'Safe Mode Detection Algorithm' that scrutinizes incoming blocks for adjustments at the top of the local blockchain. If inconsistencies are identified, the consensus algorithm proceeds cautiously by comparing the UTXO dictionaries from the attacker's chain with those from the miner's own blockchain. This meticulous comparison aims to detect instances of double-spending. If such instances are detected, the miner rejects the attacker's chain, establishing a double-spend-free environment and thwarting 51% attacks. © 2013 IEEE.

Direct methanol fuel cells have the advantages of simple system,convenient operation,high conversion rate and low carbon emission,which are considered as the environmental and friendly energy conversion ***-ever,the low activity,CO-tolerance and high cost of anode catalysts restrict the large-scale commercial ***,it is of great practical significance to design and construct the anodic catalysts with high activity,stability and low cost for methanol oxidation *** this work,the PtM/Nb_(2)O_(5)-C(M=Co,Sn,Ni)catalysts are synthesized by the ethylene glycol solvothermal method using transition metal oxide Nb_(2)O_(5)as the *** catalytic performance of different catalysts is further evaluated for alkaline *** results show that the introduction of Ni(existing in Ni^(2+)and Ni^(3+))has the most obvious improvement for alkaline MOR *** adjusting the doped ratio of Pt:Ni,it is shown that PtNi/Nb_(2)O_(5)-C has the highest mass activity(3877.9 mA-mg_(pt)^(-1)),12 times that of the commercial Pt/C ***,LSV,Tafel and EIS analyses show that PtNi/Nb_(2)O_(5)-C has the lowest onset potential and charge transfer resistance,and the fastest electrocatalytic oxidation rate of *** tests show that the electrochemical stability is also significantly improved with the introduction of Nb_(2)O_(5)and *** with the structural characterization and electrochemical tests,it is found that the evident electronic effect among Pt and Ni,Nb_(2)O_(5)and the hydroxyl brought from Ni species are mainly ascribed for enhancing the activity,CO resistance and stability of PtNi/Nb_(2)O_(5)-C.

Wearable robots have become increasingly significant in rehabilitation treatments aimed at improving patients suffering from walking gait abnormalities. The effectiveness of these robots depends on their ability to accurately track trajectories. This paper proposes a hybrid technique for tuning a PID controller in a wearable lower limb rehabilitation robot (WLLR). The combination of GA and PSO, termed HGAPSO, is utilized to acquire PID parameters for the hip and knee joints, with the aim of minimizing overshoot and tracking error. Notably, the percentage overshoot recorded by HGAPSO for the hip and knee is superior to that of conventional ZN, GA, and PSO methods, with percentages of 4.9% and 0.42%, respectively. Furthermore, the maximum error (ME) and average error (AE) between desired and actual trajectories recorded for a range of motion (ROM) and walking conditions do not exceed 0.05, which are deemed acceptable errors. The maximum root mean square error (RMSE) recorded for both ROM and walking conditions is 0.028 and 0.043, respectively. Additionally, the coefficient of determination (R2) for both conditions is more than 99%, indicating a close fit between desired and actual trajectories under various conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Lignin, a byproduct of the pulping process, is an eco-friendly material that can potentially replace petroleum-based polymers and can be fabricated into nanocomposite fibers through electrospinning. This study explored the electrospinning of lignin/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blends using two different lignin sources: softwood kraft lignin (SL) and bamboo organosolv lignin (BL). The effects of PEO content (3–6 wt%) and lignin type on solution properties and fiber formation were investigated. The viscosity of the spinning solutions increased with higher PEO content, and BL solutions exhibited higher viscosity than SL solutions under the same conditions. The fiber diameter increased with the PEO content, regardless of the lignin type, with diameters ranging from 320 to 878 nm. At the same PEO concentration, BL-based fibers exhibited larger diameters than SL-based fibers. Furthermore, when the PEO content exceeded 5 wt%, uniform, and bead-free nanofibers were successfully formed. These research findings demonstrate the potential for lignin-based nanofiber production. When utilizing bamboo organosolv lignin, it is expected that the amount of PEO additive can be reduced compared to softwood kraft lignin. © 2025 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry. Proximity sensors measure the distance to an object and detect contact. Hence, proximity sensors are typically mounted and used in end-effectors. There might be situations where it is necessary to acquire information on not only distance and contact;but also the normal force and shear force. The conventional proximity/biaxial force sensor utilizes beam deflection but brittle material and interference limit its performance. Here we present a novel proximity/decoupled biaxial force sensor made of sturdy materials, springs, and photo reflectors. We demonstrate this sensor's performance and advantage of the proposed sensor in teleoperation and during a task requiring rubbing an object. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, two technologies of metamaterial for microwave wireless power transfer are shown. One is a zeroth-order resonance for a microwave snow melting system, and another one is a focusing reflector for realizing of a highly efficient wireless power transfer space. A zeroth-order resonance leads a uniformed microwave heating and a flexibility of feeding in a snow melting system. Focusing reflector can make some electromagnetic hot and null points in a space. These are expected to be required technologies for highly efficient wireless power transfer. © 2024 IEEE.

Mass casualty incidents (MCI) caused by transportation systems significantly disturb the healthcare systems. Emergency medical services (EMS) play a vital role in diminishing the adverse impact caused by such events. Despite the fact that tremendous improvements in the emergency preparedness area, significant gaps exist in tackling and optimizing EMS in mass causality incidents caused by traffic. This paper aims to propose a systematic approach to analyze emergency medical services preparedness in traffic MCIs. The proposed methodology approach starts by identifying key gaps in the literature to overcome them and identify potential factors associated with medical emergency services in traffic MCI scenarios. Furthermore, quantitative data collection through surveys will be conducted to provide a more profound understanding of the current challenges that exist in the scope of this work. Pareto chart and root cause analysis will be implemented after the data collection phase. Once these are done, bow-tie analyses will be conducted to identify key weaknesses, evaluate the current measures, and propose enhanced practices. The collected data will then be utilized to develop a systematic framework for enhancing emergency preparedness in MCIs related to transportation, which will then be validated using a case study from the UAE. © 2024 Computers and Industrial engineering.
