Due to the high dimension of industrial process data, there are aliasing areas when building hyper-spheres of different types of data by the SVDD algorithm, which will lead to inaccurate results in condition identification. A data classification method based on Local Neighbor Density Similarity Support Vector Data Description (LNDS-SVDD) is proposed to address this issue. Utilizing the local similar density in discriminating data similarity, the LNDS-SVDD can further judge the classification of samples distributed in the aliasing area using the density information. In this paper, a randomly generated synthetic data set and a real industrial process data set is used for simulating the proposed data classification algorithm. The results indicate that the classification accuracy is high, which is an effective condition identification method for the industrial process. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhancing IoT Resilience: Machine Learning Techniques for Autonomous Anomaly Detection and Threat Mitigation

The explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has had a substantial impact on daily life and businesses, allowing for real-time monitoring and decision-making. However, increased connectivity also brings higher security risks, such as botnet attacks and the need for stronger user authentication. This research explores how machine learning can enhance Internet of Things security by identifying abnormal activity, utilizing behavioral biometrics to secure cloud-based dashboards, and detecting botnet threats early. Researchers tested numerous machine learning methods, including K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, and XGBoost on publicly available datasets. The Decision Tree model earned an impressive accuracy rate of 0.73 for anomaly identification, proving its supremacy in dealing with complex security risks, while the XGBoost model demonstrated strong performance with a 92% accuracy rate for detecting TCP SYN flood attacks. Research findings show the effectiveness of these strategies in enhancing the security and reliability of IoT devices. This study provides significant insights into the use of machine learning to protect IoT devices while also addressing crucial concerns such as power consumption and privacy.

At present, colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world. Colectomy serves as an effective treatment option for this disease. Preoperative localization plays a vital role in the colectomy procedure. However, traditional preoperative localization techniques have a greater risk of infection and lower accuracy. Moreover, it is difficult for the previous anchoring robots to adapt to the unstructured environment of the GI tract because of their limited movement abilities. To address these challenges, this work develops a robotic anchoring system with two locomotion modes which can anchor in the designated position. Driven by the external magnetic field, the robot can achieve slipping and flipping in the stomach. When the gradients of the field increase, the robot is triggered to deploy the anchoring mechanism in the intestine. Two in vitro experiments are conducted in the stomach and intestine phantoms. The first experiment demonstrates that the robot system can achieve both slipping and flipping in the stomach and its average position error is 2.96mm. The second experiment shows that the robot system can anchor in the designated position near the tumor and can resist a peristalsis force of 0.82N from the intestine wall. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern power systems are facing significant challenges due to the massive penetration of renewable energy sources (RES). Recently, issues related to frequency security, system strength, and excessive fault levels have been experienced in some power systems. Classical dynamic security assessment (DSA) tools have not been developed to identify and analyze these new challenges that are critical in low-inertia grids. In this paper, a DSA tool has been developed that evaluates frequency security, system strength, and maximum fault levels to allow for secure system planning and operation. Furthermore, to increase the accuracy of the DSA tool, inverter-based resources' (IBRs') protections and capabilities have been incorporated in the DSA tool. A real-time operation and an operational planning application of the DSA tool are showcased using the islanded Cyprus Power system. © 2024 IEEE.

Indonesia, an agricultural nation with substantial fertile land resources, possesses an agricultural sector that contributes significantly to the national economy, accounting for 9.22% of the total Gross Domestic Product in 2022, and provides employment for 27.52% of Indonesia's workforce. However, as the sector with the highest water consumption rate globally, agriculture faces significant challenges, such as water scarcity, climate variability, and technological limitations, primarily due to excessive water usage. In certain regions of Indonesia, persistent drought threatens plant development and crop quality due to water scarcity. This study proposes the development of a Smart Monitoring and Watering system employing a system design approach and utilizing Internet of Things technology with support of 4G protocol, implementing variable watering using fuzzy logic methodology to address these challenges. The system enables real-time monitoring of field conditions, including soil moisture, air humidity, and temperature, using a monitoring dashboard. Based on implementation and testing, the system demonstrates the capability to monitor environmental condition factors with data availability approximating 93.73% and maintains an average soil moisture level of 73.67%, thereby optimizing plant irrigation requirements in accordance with the specific needs of the farm-land. © 2024 IEEE.

The characteristics and mechanism of the interaction between seabed foundations and seabed soil are crucial for comprehending the bearing capacity mechanism of seabed foundations. To observe the movement of foundations in seabed soil and the deformation mechanisms of seabed soil, transparent clay and transparent sand with similar mechanical properties to seabed soft clay and sand were prepared in this paper. A transparent soil-PIV model test system was developed to investigate the interaction between seabed foundations and seabed soil. The test system comprises an actuator, a charge-coupled device camera, a control system and two laser devices. The T-bar penetration test and the plate anchor keying test were conducted in transparent clay and transparent sand, respectively, using the developed model test system. The soil flow mechanism during T-bar penetration and the keying behavior of the plate anchor were observed. Results indicated that during the penetration of T-bar, a trapped cavity is formed above the T-bar. The trapped cavity hinders the soil flow and prevents it from entering the full-flow mechanism. The peak load is reached when the anchor rotates to an angle of 24° from the horizontal plane during the keying process. The soil deformation is classified as a shallow failure mechanism, with the affected area extending from the anchor to the sand surface. This study provides a novel approach to investigate the interaction mechanism between seabed foundations and seabed soil. Copyright © 2024 by ASME.

We studied a variant of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) arising in last-mile distribution, called the multi-depot two-echelon vehicle routing problem with delivery options (MDTEVRP-DO). The MDTEVRP-DO involves two decision levels: (i) designing routes for a fleet of vehicles located in multiple depots to transport customer demands to a set of satellites and (ii) routing a fleet of vehicles from the satellites to serve the final customers. Nowadays, a relevant feature of the problem characterizing delivery services is that customers can collect their packages at pickup stations near their homes or workplaces. We designed an effectively simulated annealing (SA) heuristic for the problem. The new algorithm was extensively tested on benchmark instances from the literature, and its results were compared with those of start-of-the-art algorithms. The results show that the proposed SA obtains 30 out of the 36 best solutions for the MDTEVRP-DO benchmark instances. Moreover, its computation performance is superior to state-of-the-art algorithms for the MDTEVRP-DO. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
