Blood is vital for transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to all body parts as it circulates through arteries and veins. It removes carbon dioxide, regulates body temperature, and maintains the body's immune system. Individuals constantly need blood and its derivatives to save their lives and improve their health through medical treatments and surgical operations. Liver diseases are one of the diseases that affects the health of individuals and requires blood to continue living. These diseases cause significant damage to people's health, and early diagnosis plays a crucial role in saving lives. In this paper, machine learning algorithms (support vector machine and random forest) are involved in detecting liver diseases and determining whether donors are suitable to donate blood from blood values. This paper is applied research that found that the performance measures of the random forest algorithm achieved excellent performance in identifying suitable people to donate blood.

With the increasing number of IoT devices, there is a growing need for bandwidth to support their communication. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of available bandwidth due to preallocated bands for various services. To address this issue, Cognitive Internet of Things (CR-IoT) enables devices to optimize their efficiency and enhance their communication capabilities by intelligently accessing available bandwidth. This is achieved through the use of soft sensing metrics, where devices continuously monitor the RF environment and transmit data opportunistically in overlay mode if a free channel is detected, or in underlay mode if not. In this paper, a soft sensing metric based hybrid transmission framework is proposed for CR-IoT devices to meet the data rate requirement for the smart city applications. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated through simulation results.

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence.

INNOVATIONS IN computer-AIDED-DESIGN OF MARINE TURBINES USING INTERACTIVE GRAPHICS

His early assignments were with the General Engineering Laboratory and the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady. N. Y. He joined the Marine Turbine and Gear Department in 1968 as Manager Engineering Administration. and assumed his present assignment as Manager Engineering Resource Planning & Administration in 1976. Mr. Gingrich was instrumental in procuring the Interactive Graphics System for the Medium Steam Department. having headed up the Study Team and is now responsible for the Interactive Graphics Systems management including new procurements. He is a member of the American Institute of Design Drafting and is currently the Chairman of the Computer-Aided Drafting Committee in that organization. Mr. Reinhold L. Winter is a graduate of the General Electric Apprentice Program and Salem State College from which he received his B.S. degree in Business Administration. He has nineteen years experience with the General Electric Company including eight years in Business Systems and Programming two years in Computer Operations Management and six years in his present position as Manager Engineering Business Systems. He was a member of the original Study Team that investigated and selected the present Applicon Interactive Graphics (IAG) equipment and currently is responsible for the management of software and hardware support for the ZAG Facility.

This paper discusses the Interactive Graphics system used by the General Electric Company, Medium Steam Turbine department (Engineering & Manufacturing) for designing, drafting, and manufacturing applications. A brief overview of the hardware malting up the system is described, followed by a more detailed description of the actual applications. Two-dimensional applications described include a Heat Balance Analysis, Flow Diagrams, and Electrical Schematics. A more fruitful area for increased productivity gains is described in the three-dimensional or mechanical applications including turbine design & layout and bucket design. coordination of the design with manufacturing for numerical control tape generation is described through CAM and Plate Frame Cutting applications. Finally, a short review of the engineering design work using Interactive Graphics is discussed. Productivity gains of 2.6 to 1 are being realized, and the overall savings to the Medium Steam department are outlined.

ROLE OF SIMULATION IN RAPID PROTOTYPING FOR CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

作者： KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. A valuable technique during concept development is rapid prototyping of software for key design components. This approach is particularly useful when the optimum design approach is not readily apparent or several known alternatives need to be rapidly evaluated. A problem inherent in rapid prototyping is the lack of a "target system" with which to interface. Some alternatives are to develop test driver libraries, integrate the prototype with an existing working simulator, or build one for the specific problem. This paper presents a unique approach to concept development using rapid prototyping for concept development and scenario-based simulation for concept verification. The rapid prototyping environment, derived from artificial intelligence technology, is based on a blackboard architecture. The rapid prototype simulation capability is provided through an object-oriented modeling environment. It is shown how both simulation and blackboard technologies are used collectively to rapidly gain insight into a tenacious problem. A specific example will be discussed where this approach was used to evolve the logic of a mission controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle.

CLEER - AN AI-system DEVELOPED TO ASSIST EQUIPMENT ARRANGEMENTS ON WARSHIPS

Dr. Zhou received his master's degree and Ph.D. in computer science from Vanderbilt University in 1984 and 1987 respectively. He did his dissertation in the fields of artificial intelligence analogical reasoning and machine learning. His research interests include: classifier systems genetic algorithms learning by analogy inductive learning adaptive expert systems automated knowledge acquisition and adaption. He is also interested in data base design programming languages mental modeling and software engineering. Dr. Barry G. Silverman:is director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and a professor at the Engineering Administration Department of The George Washington University. He is also president of IntelliTek Inc. an AI consulting firm. Dr. Silverman received the B.S.E. M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a principal developer of four generic AI products as well as eight AI applications. Since 1979 he has written over 100 papers and reports on these AI efforts. Joel Simkol:is a research scientist currently engaged in designing expert system architectures to support electronic warfare vulnerability analyses threat assessments shipboard topside antenna arrangements and C3countermeasures employment. Mr. Simkol's work in applying expert systems technology to electromagnetic interference and to spectrum management has generated increased interest and participation from all branches of government agencies.

This paper describes a modularized AI system being built to help improve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) among shipboard topside equipment and their associated systems. CLEER is intended to act as an easy to use integrator of existing expert knowledge and pre-existing data bases and large scale analytical models. Due to these interfaces; to the need for portability of the software; and to artificial intelligence related design requirements (such as the need for spatial reasoning, expert data base management, model base management, track-based reasoning, and analogical (similar ship) reasoning) it was realized that traditional expert system shells would be inappropriate, although relatively off-the-shelf AI technology could be incorporated. In the same vein, the rapid prototyping approach to expert system design and knowledge engineering was not pursued in favor of a rigorous systems engineering methodology. The critical design decisions affecting CLEER's development are summarized in this paper along with lessons learned to date all in terms of “how,” “why,” and “when” specific features are being developed.

He joined SPERRY UNIVAC Defense Systems Division in January 1966 where he is now the Manager of the Computer Product Planning Group in the Marketing Department. He has been active in the development of new computer system architectures and new computer development including the AN/UYK-20 and AN/UYK-23. In addition he has worked with a number of Navies in the development of shipboard and landbased systems and has participated in the development of NATO Shipboard Standard Interfaces. Mr. John M. Anderson:received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in June 1969. He joined SPERRY UNIVAC in July 1970 where he is now a Senior Design Engineer in the Product Development Group. He is currently active in the development of the AN/UYK-520 Microcomputer and additionally has been active in the fields of digital logic design programming and computer testing.

The AN/UYK‐502 Microcomputer is a full‐scale, general‐purpose 16‐bit militarized computer designed to emmulate the AN/UYK‐20 and AN/AYK‐14, and to be implemented in a shipboard system employing distributed system architecture. Ship system Data Busses require microcomputers to be located near or within ship subsystems, with system interconnection being made through a common data bus. To implement this type of system architecture, a low cost, modular microcomputer capable of handling the bus “handshake” through a standard interface is required. The AN/UYK‐502(V) uses software common to minicomputers which allows different computer configurations to be implemented with bus architecture. The resulting system can then be maintained with a single set of support software programs thus significantly lowering system life cycle costs. The computer is offered in three physical packages: the Card Kit, Chassis Assembly, and Cabinet Assembly. Flexible options of the AN/UYK‐502(V) allow the user to tailor the system to the application needs. These options include the Central Processing Expansion Unit;main memory up to 2S6K (where K = 1024);memory parity;choice of 1 to 64 input/output (I/O) channels;parallel and/or serial I/O;and power supply selection. © 1979 American Society of Naval Engineers

Swenson USNR (Ret.):is a project manager for special projects in the Surface Ship Systems Division Hughes Aircraft Company Fullerton Calif where he has been employed since his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1975. Originally trained as an electronics technician during WWII in the Captain Eddy program he later received a BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester Rochester N. Y. in 1950. Subsequent engineering education was received at the University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Penn. and the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Calif. After commissioning he was ordered to duty as the electronics division officer on the USSMissouri(BB-63) and electronics ships superintendent at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard San Francisco Calif. When the design of the Naval Tactical Data System began in the mid-1950s Lt. (j.g.) Swenson was ordered to the Bureau of Ships Navy Department Washington D.C. as the junior engineering duty only officer assigned to the project. From 1962 to 1965 LCdr. Swenson was assigned as the BuShips technical representative on the program at Remington Rand Univac St. Paul Minn. For the next ten years he returned to BuShips/NavSea/NAVSEC as the NTDS project officer. During this time the project expanded considerably foreign military sales were heavily involved and interoperability with other services and countries were established. His final effort on active duty was to instigate the redesign of the previousSpruanceclass destroyers into the newerAdmiral Kiddclass improvement program. A little over thirty years ago, a group of naval engineers were assembled by the Bureau of Ships to develop a new system approach to the combat information center (CIC). The CIC of World War II, with its “grease pencil” plots and voice telling of tactical information from sensors and other ships, could no longer provide the timely, coordinated reaction to postwar threats. This project group led the Navy into the new world of large-scale, high-speed digital electronics and into a new mode of conducting naval warfare as well. There were no off-the-shelf computers of the requisite capability, size and reliability; what were available were monstrous vacuum tube computers. There were no display equipments that were “conversant” in both the digital language of the computer and the analog language of the sensors and the weapon systems. Who ever heard, at that time, of a computer running a tactical communication net automatically? It was hard enough to find sufficient numbers of engineers who knew what a digital computer was. This paper, by three naval engineers in the implementing engineering office, depicts the evolvement of the Naval Tactical Data systems (NTDS) as they saw it. It discusses the problems that stemmed from the transition from the old world of analog into the new digital world, the system concepts that steered the development; the key decisions that were made; new electronic equipment and processes that became necessary; and the need of the mangagement to face the real world of deadlines, ship schedules and operational requirements.

It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness.
